Augmented Reality (AR)-Based Smartphone Application as Student Learning Media for Javanese Wedding Make Up in Central Java

  • The purpose of this study was to introduce an application as a learning medium that can be used by students to prepare Solo bridal paes. This application can be used by make-up beginners who are learning about Solo bridal paes. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a randomized pretest-posttest control group. The paes application can be used as a medium in Solo bridal makeup learning, because it is highly effective in helping students prepare Solo bridal paes. This application is also considerably practical because it can be installed on smartphones. Experimental results revealed a difference between the control and experimental classes. Students in the experimental class could prepare paes neatly, and their shapes were proportional to the face of the model. The use of augmented reality as a medium to teach Solo bridal makeup, especially for making paes, is an innovation in the world of education. This application can help students make paes.

A Study of Real-Time Video Streaming Data Service on the Linux Server (리눅스 서버를 이용한 동영상 데이터 실시간 스트리밍 서비스 연구)

  • This paper suggests a method of developing live media streaming service through Linux server system on android system environment. The android application constructed in the experiment is able to record media while sending it to Linux server. Generated real time media data is send to linux server through Multipart Request class of Apache Tomcat server constructed on Linux system. Also in this research, by utilizing Android video player and media player class, development of android application structures was accomplished, which has methods of; playing live media stream data on video server, or playing live media stream data while saving stream data in cache. The structure and function of suggested system and application is confirmed by series of experiments.

  • By using Dual Port DRAM to Multi-media SoC, an improved performance is achieved in this paper. The proposed scheme greatly help the multi-media SoC like a application for full HDTV, and it can be extended to the application field which is needed the low access latency with heavy traffic. Additionally, the proposed scheme help to down the BUM cost of system.

  • 컴퓨터나 모바일 기기 사용자들이 필요한 자료나 정보 등을 검색하거나 콘텐츠가 있는 웹사이트를 찾는 경우, 흔히 사용하는 검색만으로는 어려움을 겪을 때가 존재한다. 이에 본 논문은 이러한 불편함을 최소화하기 위해 스마트폰 이용자가 원하는 콘텐츠를 찾고자 하는 경우, 분야별로 중요한 사이트들을 모아 해당 콘텐츠가 있는 사이트를 리스트로 제공해주는 어플리케이션을 개발하였다. 이는 사용자들에게 원하는 콘텐츠가 있는 사이트를 좀 더 쉽게 찾을 수 있도록 편리성을 줄 것이라 기대한다.

Network-Adaptive Transport Error Control for Reliable Wireless Media Transmission (신뢰성 있는 무선 미디어 전송을 위한 네트워크 적응형 전송오류 제어)

  • In wireless network environments, wireless channels are characterized by time-varying fading and interference conditions, which may lead to burst packet corruptions and delay variation. This can cause severe quality degradation of streaming media. To guarantee successful transmission of media over the hostile wireless networks, where channel conditions are highly fluctuating, a flexible and network-adaptive transport method is required. Thus, we propose a network-adaptive transport error control consisting of packet-level interleaved FEC and delay-constrained ARQ, which acts as an application-level transport method of streaming media to alleviate burst packet losses while adapting to the changing channel condition in wireless networks. The performances of the proposed network-adaptive transport error control, general error control schemes, and hybrid schemes are evaluated by a developed simulator at the transport-level and video quality of streaming media. Simulation results show that the proposed mechanism provides the best overall performance among compared other schemes in terms of the transport-level performance of error control and the performance of video quality for streaming media.

  • Recently, augmented reality(AR) based building information applications using a smart phone provide information in the static form irrespective of the distance between a user and a target building. If many target buildings are located close to each other, discrimination of information is reduced due to overlapping information objects. Furthermore, it is difficult to intuitively grasp the current position of the user in the previous AR-based applications. In this paper, to solve these limitations, we have designed and implemented a novel building information system in which the location and size of information objects are adaptively displayed according to locations of a user and target buildings, and which allows users to intuitively understand their location by providing a 3D map that displays the user's location and all target buildings within a given distance in real-time. The AR-based building information application proposed in this paper focuses on the building guide in Deoksu Palace in Jung-gu, Seoul.

A Survey on the Application Possibility of Mass Media for Environmental Education (대중매체의 환경교육적 활용 가능성에 관한 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study was to survey on the awareness of teachers and students to mass media as a source for school environmental education. This study was performed with the questionnaire to 179 teachers who participated in certificate in-service training for $\ulcorner$Environment$\lrcorner$subject and to 635 students(primary: 177, middle: 179, high school students: 279). The results derived from this study were as follows: First, most teachers(86.6%) evaluated that mass media's effects on students were high and positive in terms of school environmental education, thus they thought that the application necessity and possibility of mass media for environmental education were so too. Second, many teachers evaluated that more program related with environment had to be produced(57.0%) and disseminated, and information on them had to be apprised teachers to activate school environmental education(44.1%). Third, both teachers(87.1%) and students(70.4%) evaluated that audio-visual media such as television, video, movie was better than others for environmental education because audio-visual media could be more realistic and dynamic(T: 48.0%, S: 41.7%). Fourth, we found that as the result of statistical analysis, students's friendliness. credibility and preference on media were different to school classes. But we could not analize the relationship between factors for the limit of sample.

  • As the computing and network technique move rm and spread widly, the usage of multimedia application becomes in general while the usage of text based application becomes low. Especially the application which treats the streaming media such as video or movie, one of multimedia data, holds a majority in the usage of computing. MPEG, one of the typical compression standard of streaming media, provides very high compression ratio so that general users could be close to the streaming media with easy usage. However, the encoding of MPEG requires lots of computing power and time. In the paper, we design and implement a parallel MPEG encoder with MPI in cluster envrionment to reduce the encoding time of MPEG.

  • This paper describes design and implementation of a content manager in the Integrated Steaming Framework Architecture (ISSA) that is proposed by the authors. The ISSA can provide an environment to develop multimedia streaming applications under heterogeneous distributed systems. The goal of ISSA is to extend the limitations of existing streaming systems. It can support diverse media formats and high level programming environment for streaming application developers. Moreover, it is independent from underlying networks and operating systems, and compatible with the global real-time multimedia database system(BeeHive) so that streaming media is efficiently retrieved, stored, and serviced. The role of a content manager is important in the ISSA environment since it manages an information of media that are provided by the server, and allow users to access media more easily by means of conveying that information to the streaming server, Web server, and client efficiently. The proposed content manager is not only to meed these requirements, but also to provide streaming information to media source and transport manager in order to be an efficient streaming. Furthermore, it supports database transaction processing by using the database connector.
