  • In this paper, we prove that the Hilbert 2-class field tower of an imaginary quadratic function field $F=k({\sqrt{D})$ is infinite if $r_2({\mathcal{C}}(F))=4$ and exactly one monic irreducible divisor of D is of odd degree, except for one type of $R{\acute{e}}dei$ matrix of F. We also compute the density of such imaginary quadratic function fields F.

  • This paper describes a novel approach for performing eigenvalue analysis and frequency domain analysis of multi-machine power system. The salient feature of this approach is a direct approach for constructing the state matrix equations of linearized power systems about its operating point using modular technique. These state matrix equations are then used to obtain eigenvalues and mode shapes of the system, and frequency response, or Bode, plots of selected transfer functions. The proposed program provides a flexible tool for systematic analyses of tuning PSS's parameters. The paper also presents its application to the analyses of a single-machine infinite bus system and two-area system with 4 machines.

  • This paper describes a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach to the design of robust low-order power system stabilizers (PSSs), which are used to damp out local-mode oscillations of synchronous generators. The performance of a PSS is expressed as the location of the closed-loop poles, and a single fixed-gain pole-placement controller is synthesized for a wide range of operating conditions. The synthesis results in simultaneous regional pole-placement stabilization. and is formulated as an LMI feasibility problem with a rank condition. A penalty method is applied to solve the rank-constrained LMI problem. Numerical experiments with a single-machine connected to an infinite bus system were performed to demonstrate the proposed method.

  • Stability is a very important part which we must consider in structural design. In this paper, we take advantage of finite element method to study parametrical instability of lattice dome structures, which is subjected to harmonically pulsating load. We consider elastic stiffness and geometrical stiffness simultaneously during the calculation of stiffness matrix, and adopt consistent mass matrix to make the solution more correct. In order to obtain instability regions, we represent displacements and accelerations in dynamic equation by trigonometric series expansions, and then obtain Hill's infinite determinants. After first order approximation, we can get first and second order dynamic instability regions eventually. Finally, we take 24-bar star dome and 90-bar lamella dome as examples to investigate dynamic instability phenomena.

  • Paranormed spaces are important as a generalization of the normed spaces in terms of having more general properties. The aim of this study is to introduce a new paranormed space |𝜙z|(p) over the paranormed space ℓ(p) using Euler totient means, where p = (pk) is a bounded sequence of positive real numbers. Besides this, we investigate topological properties and compute the α-, β-, and γ duals of this paranormed space. Finally, we characterize the classes of infinite matrices (|𝜙z|(p), λ) and (λ, |𝜙z|(p)), where λ is any given sequence space.

  • An approximate method for the dominant eigenvalue of one machine connected to the infinite bus has been suggested. This method is based on combining the traditional eigenvalue sensitivity analysis and the structure of the system state matrix. Numerical examples are presented. This method is considered to be quite useful in the stability analysis for various initial conditions and for adjustment of generator controller parameters.

  • Many of today´s robot are required to perform tasks which demand a high level of accuracy in end-effector positioning. Those rigid robots are very inefficient and slow because its have large and heavy links, In an attempt to solve these problems, a robots using flexible beam were created. But the single-link flexible beam is infinite-dimensional system. Many researchers have proposed controlling such a beam an approximated model consisting of a finite a number of models. In this paper, we start by deriving the analytic model for the dynamics of general single-link beam, and a controller is designed for flexible beam with integral type servo system bases of the linear matrix inequality (LM) technique. To the end, simulation results show that a designed controller guarantees affective vibration control the single-link flexible beam.

  • In this paper, a thermo-viscoelastic problem in an infinite isotropic medium in two dimensions in the presence of a point heat source is considered. The fundamental equations of the problems of generalized thermoelasticity including heat sources in a thermo-viscoelastic media have been derived in the form of a vector matrix differential equation in the Laplace-Fourier transform domain for a two dimensional problem. These equations have been solved by the eigenvalue approach. The results have been compared to those available in the existing literature. The graphs have been drawn for different cases.

  • Unlike for the bound states, several different boundary conditions are used for the continuum states above the barrier in semiconductor quantum wells. We employed three boundary conditions, infinite potential barrier boundary condition, periodic boundary condition and scattering boundary condition, and calculated the local number of states, wavefunctions and optical matrix elements for the symmetric and asymmetric quantum wells. We discussed how these quantities are related in the three boundary conditions. We argue that the scattering boundary condition has several advantages over the other two cases. These results would be useful in understanding quantum well lasers and detectors involving continuum states.

  • During the cooling process of rail, residual stresses are produced due to the difference of the coefficients of thermal expansion between rail and inhomogeneous non-metallic inclusions such as sulphides and oxides. A micro-mechanical approach is used to obtain the stresses in the inclusions and matrix, After obtaining the stress of an elliptical inhomogeneous inclusion in an infinite domain, average stresses of randomly distributed spherical inclusions are obtained by use of Mori-Tanaka's self consistent method. The magnitude of the calculated residual stress is near to the yield stress of the matrix in case of the spherical inclusions.
