  • In this paper, we present a new approach to extract the g-sensitivity scale-factor error for a MEMS gyroscope. MEMS gyroscopes, based on the use of both angular momentum and the Coriolis effect, have a g-sensitivity error due to mass unbalance. Generally, the g-sensitivity error is not considered in general use of gyroscopes, but it deserves our attention if we are to develop for tactical class performance and reliability. The g-sensitivity error during vehicle flight increases navigation error; so it must be analyzed and compensated for the use of MEMS IMU for high dynamics vehicle systems. Therefore, we analyzed how to extract the g-sensitivity scale-factor error from the inertial sensor error model. Furthermore we propose a new method to extract the g-sensitivity error using flight motion simulator. We verified our proposed method with experimental results.

  • Korea has the characteristics of traditional power system such as large-scale power generation and large-scale power transmission systems, including 20 GW large-scale power generation complexes in several regions with unit generator capacity exceeding 1.4 GW, 2-3 ultra-high-voltage transmission lines that transport power from large-scale power generation complexes, and 6 ultra-high-voltage transmission lines that transport power from non-metropolitan areas to the metropolitan area. Due to the characteristics of the power system, the penetration level for renewable energy is low, but due to frequency stability issue, some generators are reducing the output of generators. In the future, the issue of maintaining the stability of the power system is expected to emerge as the most important issue in accordance with the policy of expanding renewable energy. When non-inertial inverter-based renewable energy, such as solar and wind power, surges rapidly, the means to improve the power system stability in an independent system is to install a natural inertial resource synchronous condenser (SC) and a virtual inertial resource BESS in the system. In this study, we analyzed the effect of renewable energy on power system stability and the BESS effect to maintain the minimum frequency through a power system simulation. It was confirmed that the BESS effect according to the power generation constraint capacity reached a maximum of 122.81 %.

  • Inertial-grade vertical-type and lateral-type differential resonant accelerometers (DRXLs) are designed, fabricated using one process and tested for navigational applications. The accelerometers consist of an out-of-plane (for z-axis) accelerometer and in-plane (for x, y-axes) accelerometers. The sensing principle of the accelerometer is based on gap-sensitive electrostatic stiffness changing effect. It says that the natural frequency of the accelerometer can be changed according to an electrostatic force on the proof mass of the accelerometer. The out-of-plane resonant accelerometer shows bias stability of $2.5{\mu}g$, sensitivity of 70 Hz/g and bandwidth of 100 Hz at resonant frequency of 12 kHz. The in-plane resonant accelerometer shows bias stability of $5.2{\mu}g$, sensitivity of 128 Hz/g and bandwidth of 110 Hz at resonant frequency of 23.4 kHz. The measured performances of two accelerometers are suitable for an application of inertial navigation.

  • In this paper, we proposed the geolocation method using target detection information in infrared images. Our method was applied to geolocation system of hostile targets in ground-to-ground field. The major distortion that has bad effect of geolocation was composed of optic, topography, GPS(Global Positioning System) and IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) of reconnaissance unit. We proposed enhanced geolocation method to cope with optic and topography distortion using polynomial fitting and slant-range calculation model to overcome earth curvature problem, and the result showed that the performance of our method was good for system requirements.

As the inertial reference equipment for attitude determination and control in the satellite, the mechanical gyroscope has been used but it bring the disturbance for mass unbalance so the disturbance give a bad influence to the observation satellite mission because the mechanical gyroscope has the rotation parts. During the launch. The mechanical gyroscope is weak in vibration, shock and has the defect of narrow operating temperature range so it need the special design in integration. Recently the low orbit observation satellite for seeking the high pointing accuracy of image camera payload accept the FOG(Fiber Optic Gyro) or RLG(Ring Laser Gyro) for the attitude determination and control. The Ring Laser Gyro makes use of the Sanac effect within a resonant ring cavity of a He-Ne laser and has more accuracy than the other gyros. It need the 1000V DC to create the He-Ne plasma in discharge tube. In this paper, the design process of the High Voltage Power Supply for RLG(Ring Laser Gyroscope) is described. The specification for High Voltage Power Supply (HVPS) is proposed. Also, The analysis of flyback converter topology is explained. The Design for the HVPS is composed of the inverter circuit, feedback control circuit, high frequency switching transformer design and voltage doubler circuit.

  • This paper presents considerations on the results of the rotating arm test, which was carried out for assessment of an hybrid navigation system for a semi-autonomous underwater vehicle. The navigation system consists of an inertial measurement unit(IMU), an ultra-short baseline(USBL) acoustic navigation sensor and a doppler velocity log(DVL) accompanying a magnetic compass. A navigational systemmodel is derived to include the scale effect and bias errors of the DVL, of which the state equation composed of the navigation states and sensor parameters are 25 in the order. The extended Kalman filter was used to propagate the error covariance, The rotating arm tests were carried out in the Ocean Engineering Basin of KRISO, to generate circular motion. The hybrid underwater navigation system shows good tracking performance against the circular planar motion. Additionally this paper checked the effects of the sampling ratio of the navigation system and the possibility of the dead reckoning with the DVL and the magnetic compass to estimate the position of the vehicle.

  • The elliptic relaxation model(ERM) with the inhomogeneous correction intermediate between near wall with and far from the wall. The source of the ERM usually was appled quasi-homogeneous pressure-strain correlation in homogeneous situations. This formulation was easily applied to the linear model or non-linear pressure-strain model. It is observed that the boundary conditions of the relaxation operator dominate the homogeneous pressure-strain model in the near wall region. While looking at high-Reynolds number flows, it was found necessary to modify the effect of the relaxation operator throughout the log region by accounting for gradients of the flatness variable and turbulent length scales. These effects are kinematic blocking of the wall normal velocity fluctuation and pressure reflections from the surface. This model is wall distances and unit vectors which make the model applicable to flows boundary by a complex geometry. Inhomogeneous correction model is computed inertial and non-inertial channel flow These are compared DNS(Kim et at., Kristofffrsen & Andersson) for channel flow. The present model could be predicted well for rotating flows.

  • Wet-type particulate removal system is employed in most of ironmaking processes. These de-dusting systems require additional downstream aggregates for treatment of water and for drying of the collected slurry. Thus dried slurry can be pressed in shape of briquettes and recycled in the steelmaking process. Different from the wet-type, the dry-type particulate removal systems generate no slurry. A high-temperature, high-pressure de-dusting system with inertial inlet was developed. The target application of this system was to remove particulate matter generated from the novel ironmaking process and other steelmaking processes. In this study we conducted tests with this newly developed system to evaluate the performance of the silica-carbide (SiC) ceramic filters. In addition, for purpose of comparison, we also conducted tests with a unit which has conventional direct inlet. Fe-Particles collected from the novel ironmaking process were used in our tests as test dusts. The temperature and the pressure were kept constant at their respective values $800^{\circ}C$ and $3kg_f/cm^2$.

  • Gyroscope is a very important core sensor, as a rotation sensor in inertial space, in inertial guidance and navigation system on aeronautics, plane, vessel and so on for civilian and millitary applications. Mechnical gyroscopes, adopting a principle of spinning a top, have been used in many application system. These mechnical gyroscopes need high power consumption, long warming time and complicated peripheral devices. But fiber-optic gyroscopes, based on the Sagnac effect, have novel advantages as small volume. simple scheme, low power consumption and high reliability. So we have developed a Intermediate grade All-fiber Optic Gyroscope, which has open-loop and minimum reciprocal configuration scheme. We have designed feedback circuits for stability of amplitude and phase using four lock-in amplifier(LIA) circuits and also used for noise limitation. This paper describes the scheme of optical part and electronic part and also test results of this all-fiber optic gyroscope. The performance have been achieved as long-term bias drift of $9.54^{\circ}/h$, random walk of $0.0317^{\circ}/\sqrt{h}$ and dynamic range of ${\pm}150\;deg/s$.
