Longitudinal Analysis of Regional LQ Index Industry Competitiveness of Game Culture Contents Industry (국내 게임 문화콘텐츠산업의 권역별 산업역량에 대한 종단적 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the status and the competitiveness improvement of game contents industry comparing to relative LQ index of the no. of character company, the no. of employee and the amount of revenue of 2011, 2012, and 2013 between including Metro area and regional blocks(kangwon, chungchung, daekung, honam, dongnam and jeju region. The results of this research are as follows. In case including metro regional analysis, no. of employee suggested Metro and Chungchung have high competitiveness in during the 3 years. And in case of no. of game company suggested honam, dongnam and jeju area have high competitiveness between 2012 and 2013. The amount of revenue of game industry indicated the only Metro area have over LQ 1.0 which relative higher competitiveness than the other culture contents industry. But in case of except of Metro, no. of game company indicated honam, jeju have relative high competitiveness over LQ 1.0 and the no. of employee indicated kangwon, chungchung, honam and jeju showed relative competitiveness during 3 years. The amount of revenue of game industry indicated kangwon, chungchung and honam suggested high competitiveness. Honam area have strong competitiveness among three category by regional longitudinal analysis. Kangwon and jeju area suggested 2nd strong regional competitiveness. The main competitiveness of game industry were well established among national industry cluster.

The Qualitative Trade Competitiveness of China in IT Industry: A Comparison to Korea and USA

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to analyze the trade structure and competitiveness of China's information technology (IT) industry in comparison to that of Korea and the United States, particularly in terms of quality. Design/methodology/approach - Indices such as trade specialization index (TSI), Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), and Market Comparative Advantage (MCA) are used. Further, an Intra-industry Trade (IIT) index is used to analyze qualitative changes in horizontal intra-industry trade and intra-industry trade of high- and low-quality goods. Findings - China's IT industry has a comparative competitive advantage over that of Korea and the United States, and mainly exports goods of inferior quality and imports goods of superior quality. Further, China's horizontal intra-industry trade has been decreasing, while its vertical intra-industry trade has been increasing and vertical trade of inferior quality goods outweighs that of superior quality goods. This shows that China is rapidly catching up with Korea and the United States, even though its qualitative competitiveness has not significantly improved. Research limitations/implication - This study has academic and political implications, as it analyzes changes in China's IT trade competitiveness. However, it is somewhat limited as factors determining qualitative aspects has not been considered. Originality/value - Most studies aggregate analyses of export competitiveness using methodologies such as TSI, RCA, and market share. However, the focus of these methods is price competitiveness. Hence, an examination of the objective and qualitative trade competitiveness of China's IT industry is necessary. this study the trade structure and quantitative competitiveness of the industry by analyzing intra-industry trade focusing on the quality of competitiveness. Therefore, the changes in China's IT industry in the USA and Korea and in foreign trade competitiveness and quality competitiveness are clarified. The results show that the academic and policy implications of these changes in the IT industry will be a useful resource. This is the first study in Korea to attempt such an analysis. A Comparative Study of Fishery Industry Competitiveness in China's Coastal Provinces

  • Fishery industry is an important part of agricultural industry in coastal countries. The purpose of this study is to use the theory of industrial competitiveness for reference, use Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Delphi method to establish the evaluation index system, and analyze the fishery industry competitiveness of 11 coastal provinces in China. This study data came from China Fishery Statistical Yearbook 2020. The results show that Shandong Province is the most competitive province in fishery industry among the coastal provinces. The inter-provincial differences are great. Not only the resource endowment is the factor that affects the fishery industry competitiveness, but also the long-term profitability is too. The proportion of recreational fishery in the fishery economic output value has become one of the main indicators to measure the competitiveness of the fishery industry. The findings of this study suggest that all regions should adopt measures in accordance with local conditions, promote the integrated development of the fishery industry, enhance the added value of fishery products and enhance the competitiveness of fishery industry. The disadvantage of this study is that the fishery industry competitiveness of China's coastal provinces is only compared and analyzed. The future direction is to carry out a comparative study on the international competitiveness of fishery with other east Asian countries.

A Study on the International Competitiveness of Korea′s Information and Telecommunication Industry (정보통신 산업의 국제 경쟁력 분석)

  • This study examines the international competitiveness of the Korean information and telecommunication industry by using competitiveness index such as the RCA index, the Trade Specialization index, and the Total Factor Productivity. The results of this study show that the industry's competitiveness slightly decreases since 1995, but not its the total factor productivity. In conclusion, the industry has kept the competitiveness over all. Therefore, to keep or improve the competitiveness continuously, the industry is required the government's intensive investment and administrative support. And the industry should bring up by venture and small-medium-size-enterprises to have great economic impacts on other industries. Also, the increasing production and export promoting policy will be enhance the industry and improve nation's balance of trade.

A Comparative Analysis on the Effect of GVC Participation on the Export Competitiveness of Manufacturing and Service Industry (GVC 참여가 제조업과 서비스업 수출경쟁력에 미치는 영향 비교분석)

  • This study compares and analyzes the effects of GVC participation on export competitiveness in manufacturing and service industry in 36 OECD countries and 28 non-OECD countries. According to the statistical analysis result, the GVC participation had a negative impact on export competitiveness in manufacturing industry, while it had a positive impact in the service industry. In the case of the manufacturing industry, participation toward the backward GVC had a positive impact on export competitiveness before the financial crisis, besides, participation toward the forward GVC had a positive impact on export competitiveness. In the case of the service industry, export competitiveness through forward GVC participation has increased since the financial crisis has occurred, and backward GVC participation was estimated to have a negative impact on export competitiveness. The results of this study implies that, to secure export competitiveness, a converged approach of the manufacturing and service industries to upgrade the global value chain is needed.

A Comparative Analysis on the Competitiveness of Korean and Japanese Fashion Industry by Applying Generalized Double Diamond Model

  • The purpose of this paper is to seek ways to improve the competitiveness of Korea's fashion industry by utilizing the source of competitiveness of Japan's fashion industry, which represents the world's leading countries in terms of fashion, so that Korea can better enter the global fashion market. The study shall first compare the competitiveness of the Japanese and Korean fashion industries by utilizing the generalized double diamond model; second, provide an understanding of what the Japanese fashion industry can offer to Korean fashion industry and companies - that is, understand what the Japanese fashion industry's competitive edge is; and third, study the kind of global competitiveness that Korea's fashion industry must achieve. To adopt a generalized double diamond model to compare the competitiveness of the Korean and Japanese fashion industries, we selected 31 sub-variables to act as determinants of the model. That is, we extracted 31sub-variables by doing research of literature to analyze national competitiveness of the fashion industries. To measure these 31 sub-variables, secondary data was gathered. We collected data related to each sub-variable from various sources of Korea and Japan. And to calculate the competitiveness index, we took three steps with reference to previous studies. We found that status of the fashion industry of the two countries as it stands. That is, Japan is an advanced country of which fashion industry is domestic market-oriented while Korea is a small open economy that mainly focuses on the foreign market. Out of 31 proxy variables, Korea's fashion industry shows higher measurements relating to production and export than Japan, but Japan's fashion industry reports higher measurements than Korea in the fields of R&D, design and brand power, the rate of value added, the efficiency of companies and globalization. In order for Korea's fashion industry to achieve competitiveness in the global market, it should pursue the following development direction. First, it is very difficult for Korea to follow the footsteps of the U.S. and Japanese fashion industries that are able to take advantage of economies of scale, because Korea is smaller than those countries. Therefore, in the case of small economies such as Singapore, strengthening of international activities will practically improve domestic determinants that Korea should improve its domestic diamond by enhancing the current competitiveness of its international diamond. In other words, Korea needs to further endeavor to develop and expand global resources and markets as well as improve its competitiveness in terms of R&D, design and brand power, the rate of value-added, and the efficiency of companies. As the Korean fashion industry shows relatively advanced level of information technology and the fashion education system, it has considerable potential to grow. Korea is expected to have a huge growth potential since it has relatively higher level of information technology, fashion education system and activities than those of Japan in both the domestic diamond and international diamond. In particular, a better environment is laid out before Korea to gain competitiveness in the fashion industry due to the recently growing influence of the Korean Wave that Korea is expected to grow as a leader in the Asian market as well as in the global market.

  • It is an important and hot issue how to improve the competitiveness concerned on product, company and industry. It is necessary to develop the strategy of competitiveness for an efficient operation as well as improving the competitiveness in view of product, system, industry, price, quality and so on. This paper aims at proposing a model to choose dominating factors of competitiveness including a method o( resources allocation which can be applied to all products. And we show its empirical application on tile-industry.

A Study on the Technological Competitiveness of Aircraft Infra Industries by using Patents (특허분석을 통한 항공기반산업의 기술경쟁력에 관한 연구)

  • This paper considers the technological competitiveness of aircraft infra industries that are bases of the aircraft industry development in Korea. We performed focus group interviews to aircraft industry specialists and classified the aircraft infra industries by eight fields: metallurgical assembly, general machinery, precision instruments, materials & parts, communication appliances, computer, semi-conductor/ electronic component, electronics. Through the United States patents analysis for the G7 countries and Korea during 1995-2006, we identified the technological specificities and competences of each country. RTA(Revealed Technology Advantage) index and CII(Current Impact Index) are used to examine the technological specificity and technological competence respectively. Finally, we introduced TCI(Technological Competitiveness Index) which could reflect quantitative level as well as qualitative level of patents for each aircraft infra industry. The results show that Korea has occupied the technological competitiveness in the semi-conductor and electronic component industry out of eight aircraft infra industries, and achieved a competitive edge in communication appliance industry in the mid 2000s.

  • Korea construction industry needs to secure its competitiveness in global construction markets and to urgently find out the proper approaches in consideration of the current situation of Korean construction enterprises and environmental changes in the international market. Korea has national plan to improve the competitive level of the construction industry. Expecially, Government is trying to build the global system in construction industry. But there are no the related national competitive date. Therefore, this paper suggested national competitive indicators and development direction in construction industry. And this research has presented the competitiveness analysis of construction industry with the consideration of condition of infrastructure, transparency and technological competitiveness.

  • This study measures the internal and external competitiveness of 35 OECD countries in the insurance industry. We analyze whether variables related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution affect international competitiveness by applying a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag model. As a result, the competitiveness of life insurance foreign companies in internal is showing positive responses in high income inequality countries. In addition, insurance companies in countries with low income inequality have shown high performance in external. The non-life insurance industry is less sensitive to shocks than life insurance. This is because non-life insurance is a more dangerous industry than life insurance and there are many restrictions on policies and regulations. The reason is that non-life insurance is a more dangerous industry than life insurance and there are many restrictions on policies and regulations.
