  • For the while, food wastes have been mainly gathered in a trash place in outskirt of Seoul to bury under the ground. Recently the residents near the area strongly refused to fetch those food wastes to their area because of the terribly bad smell. According to the statistic, the food wastes have around $30\%$ portion of total living wastes, which are more than other countries. Most of the food wastes have been simply buried or incinerated without deep consideration of resource recovery view. Such burying or incineration makes problem to the residents' life condition. So the first is to reduce as much as possible and the rest should be controlled to reuse as resources.

  • The specified industrial wastes increased 26% annually during the last 5 years from 1984 to 1988 in Korea, and the special treatment and proper management are required. The effective methods are studied on the process of generation, keeping, transportation, and treatment/disposal for specified industrial wastes and materials. Also, in this paper, the author describes the plans to develop the public disposal facilities and manage specific industrial waste properly in Korea.

  • The premise for the study reflected in this article is the need to dispose of industrial waste, which is increasingly being used in the construction materials industry. Also, dynamically developing building industry demands attention of scientists and a direction of their works on improvement of the technology of carrying out construction works. Thus, the article is devoted to studying the influence of various chemical additives and fine fillers (industrial wastes) available in Kazakhstan on self-compacting concrete (SCC) mixtures and its rheological, physical, and technical properties. According to the studies, revealed the most efficient type of fine-dispersed filler and the most optimal type of chemical additive to enable obtaining a high-quality SCC mixture based on local raw materials. As a result, the use of microsilica in comparison with other industrial wastes resulted in a conglomerate with high compressive strength of SCC at early terms of curing. In terms of economic efficiency and quality improvement, the results of study are of practical value for the manufacturers of ready-mixed concrete operating in Kazakhstan.

  • The presens study was aimed to investigate the possibility of use of pozzolanic materials such as blast furnace slag, fly ash, paper sludge ash which are produced from industrial wastes, as construction materials. Experiments were undertaken to investigate the properties of concrete bricks and interlocking blocks made with these industrial by-products. As a result, it was found that the concrete bricks and interlocking blocks made with substitute materials have equivalent strength and quality to those of conventional concrete bricks and interlocking blocks made with only cement. Thus, it could be expected that recycling the industrial wastes can reduce manufacturing costs of the cement as well as prevent environmental pollution by the use of the by-products thrown out as wastes to make secondary products of the concrete.

  • The manufacturing of the solid fuel using wastes has been studied on the purpose of the reduction of green house gases and the profit-making as alternative fuel, and thus, it has become as technically improved as to be used as business. However, the production of solid fuel with multi-wastes combination needs a caution while the solid fuel with one-waste has not a significant component change. This study analyzes the solid fuel components through the practical plant experiment to the various wastes. The resulted data shows a different pattern than the theoretical one in the component analysis, and it can be concluded that the adequate uniform mixing has a great influence on the manufacturing of the solid soil.

  • This research was performed to investigate the generation and physico-chemical characteristics of municipal solid wastes. The results were as follows: i) The generation rate and bulk density were 0.157 kg/cap/d and 147.8 g/L in residential zone, respectively. In non-residential zone, the generation and bulk density were 1.71 kg/cap/d and 85.6 g/L, respectively. Consequently, bulk density of non-residential zone was lower than that of residential zone. ii) The wastes consisted of 90% of combustibles and 10% of incombustibles in residential zone. And the wastes from non-residential zone was composed 85% of combustibles and 15% of incombustibles. iii) Water content was estimated at 47~50% in residential zone and restaurants. In non-residential zone, except restaurants, water content was in the range of 10~30%. Ash content was nearly 10% in overall zone.

  • This study is performed to evaluate theproperties of concrete using industrial wastes such as fly ash, zeolite powder and blast furnace slag powder. Seven types of concrete mixtures are made in this study. Water0reducing admixture and air entaining agent are used for all mixtures. Test results, the hydration evolution amounts are decreased by 2 ∼31 % than that of the normal portland cement and air contents of concrete are decreased by 1 ∼15% and compressive strengths are increased by 2∼10% at the curing age 28 days than that of the normal portland cement concrete. Accordingly, concrete using industrial wastes will greatly improve the properties of concrete.

  • Anaerobic digestion(AD) is the most promising method for treating and recycling of different organic wastes, such as organic fraction of municipal solid waste, household wastes, animal manure, agro-industrial wastes, industrial organic wastes and sewage sludge. During AD, i.e. organic materials are decomposed by anaerobic forming bacteria and fina1ly converted to excellent fertilizer and biogas which is a mixture of carbon dioxide and methane. AD has been one of the leading technologies that can make a large contribution to produce renewable energy and to reduce $CO_2$ and other green-house gas(GHG) emission, it is becoming a key method for both waste treatment and recovery of a renewable fuel and other valuable co-products. Currently some 80% of the world's overall energy supply of about 400 EJ per year in derived from fossil fuels. Nevertheless roughly 10~15% of this demand is covered by biomass resources, making biomass by far the most important renewable energy source used to date. The representative biofuels produced from the biomass are bioethanol, biodiesel and biogas, and currently biogas plays a smaller than other biofuels but steadily growing role. Traditionally anaerobic digestion applied for different biowaste e.g. sewage sludge, manure, other organic wastes treatment and stabilization, biogas has become a well established energy resource. However, the biowaste are fairly limited in respect to the production and utilization as renewable source, but the plant biomass, the so called "energy crops" are used for more biogas production in EU countries and the investigation on the biomethane potential of different crops and plant materials have been carried out. In Korea, with steadily increasing oil prices and improved environmental regulations, since 2005 anaerobic digestion was again stimulated, especially on the biogasification of different biowastes and agro-industrial biomass including "energy crops". This study have been carried out to investigate anaerobic biodegradability by the biochemical methane potential(BMP) test of animal manures, different forage crops i.e. "energy crops", plant and industrial organic wastes in the condition of thermophilic temperature, The biodegradability of animal manure were 63.2% and 58.2% with $315m^3CH_4/tonVS$ of cattle slurry and $370m^3CH_4/tonVS$ of pig slurry in ultimate methane yields. Those of winter forage crops were the range 75% to 87% with ultimate methane yield of $378m^3CH_4/tonVS$ to $450m^3CH_4/tonVS$ and those of summer forage crops were the range 81% to 85% with ultimate methane yield of $392m^3CH_4/tonVS$ to $415m^3CH_4/tonVS$. The forge crops as "energy crops" could be used as good renewable energy source to increase methane production and to improve biodegradability in co-digestion with animal manure or only energy crop digestion.

  • The high Temperatures and long residence times in the combustion zones of cement kiln can use to burn liquid and solid wastes, such as fuel-wastes, sludges and tire-wastes. To the lastest time, treatment methods of industrial waste are incineration treatment, ocean dumping and land dumping. These are the main methods, but all of them may cause vatious kinds of secondary pollution, including air pollution and water pollution. From this point of view, to reuse the Reclaiming-Fuel in Cement Kiln is the most outstanding waste treatment plant in the world and dose not cause any pollution at all.
