SEG Based Engineering Education Innovation: A Case Study on GNTECH-ICEE

  • GNTECH-ICEE, which this study seeks to investigate and evaluate, demonstrates a new system of training innovative engineers. An essential component of this operation is a Small Engineering Group (SEG) that links professors, students and industrial experts together, to study and apply different techniques in determining the processes and products that relate industrial sectors needs. As an education program, SEG also provides a right direction for educating students, and generates industry-university link based human resources. Through these efforts, GNTECH-ICEE has effectively trained creative, professional, and practical engineers, by operating a variety of programs for meeting industrial needs and enhancing engineering education. SEG has many merits that have influenced its success so far, but the program also faces some challenges. The merits include; strong group bondage, practical ability incubation, and efficient administrative support. In terms of demerits, it is evident that sufficient theoretical education and local small-middle size enterprises (SMEs)' sustainable participation cannot be warranted. Thus, we propose that initiative strategies have been helpful to maximize GNTECH-ICEE's goal of making students into multi-player engineer, but continuously financial and administrative strategies be put into place in order to guarantee SMEs' long-term devotion to the program, and to help create a sustainable network between students and the companies involved.

A Profile Tolerance Usage in GD&T for Precision Manufacturing (정밀제조를 위한 기하공차에서의 윤곽공차 사용)

  • One of the challenges facing precision manufacturers is the increasing feature complexity of tight tolerance parts. All engineering drawings must account for the size, form, orientation, and location of all features to ensure manufacturability, measurability, and design intent. Geometric controls per ASME Y14.5 are typically applied to specify dimensional tolerances on engineering drawings and define size, form, orientation, and location of features. Many engineering drawings lack the necessary geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to allow for timely and accurate inspection and verification. Plus-minus tolerancing is typically ambiguous and requires extra time by engineering, programming, machining, and inspection functions to debate and agree on a single conclusion. Complex geometry can result in long inspection and verification times and put even the most sophisticated measurement equipment and processes to the test. In addition, design, manufacturing and quality engineers are often frustrated by communication errors over these features. However, an approach called profile tolerancing offers optimal definition of design intent by explicitly defining uniform boundaries around the physical geometry. It is an efficient and effective method for measurement and quality control. There are several advantages for product designers who use position and profile tolerancing instead of linear dimensioning. When design intent is conveyed unambiguously, manufacturers don't have to field multiple question from suppliers as they design and build a process for manufacturing and inspection. Profile tolerancing, when it is applied correctly, provides manufacturing and inspection functions with unambiguously defined tolerancing. Those data are manufacturable and measurable. Customers can see cost and lead time reductions with parts that consistently meet the design intent. Components can function properly-eliminating costly rework, redesign, and missed market opportunities. However a supplier that is poised to embrace profile tolerancing will no doubt run into resistance from those who would prefer the way things have always been done. It is not just internal naysayers, but also suppliers that might fight the change. In addition, the investment for suppliers can be steep in terms of training, equipment, and software.

Exact Algorithm for the Weapon Target Assignment and Fire Scheduling Problem (표적 할당 및 사격순서결정문제를 위한 최적해 알고리즘 연구)

  • We focus on the weapon target assignment and fire scheduling problem (WTAFSP) with the objective of minimizing the makespan, i.e., the latest completion time of a given set of firing operations. In this study, we assume that there are m available weapons to fire at n targets (> m). The artillery attack operation consists of two steps of sequential procedure : assignment of weapons to the targets; and scheduling firing operations against the targets that are assigned to each weapon. This problem is a combination of weapon target assignment problem (WTAP) and fire scheduling problem (FSP). To solve this problem, we define the problem with a mixed integer programming model. Then, we develop exact algorithms based on a dynamic programming technique. Also, we suggest how to find lower bounds and upper bounds to a given problem. To evaluate the performance of developed exact algorithms, computational experiments are performed on randomly generated problems. From the results, we can see suggested exact algorithm solves problems of a medium size within a reasonable amount of computation time. Also, the results show that the computation time required for suggested exact algorithm can be seen to increase rapidly as the problem size grows. We report the result with analysis and give directions for future research for this study. This study is meaningful in that it suggests an exact algorithm for a more realistic problem than existing researches. Also, this study can provide a basis for developing algorithms that can solve larger size problems.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose agenda concerning the direction of agricultural science convergence research and development (R&D) under the fourth industrial revolution. For this study, we apply the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) targeted at experts in the fields of agricultural academia and research operating R&D currently. Results suggest the following agendas; first, human resource training toward future is more emphasized rather than fragmentary technology innovation. Second, a flexible road map for agricultural science R&D need to be made for responding to short and long term issues relevant to the innovation. Third, mutual exchange and cooperative system need to be constructed between academia and research in order to create synergy effects. Finally, both institutional improvement and humanistic literacy should be emphasized for rapidly changing conditions and better human life under the fourth industrial revolution.

  • In this research, in order to prevent the fire of multiple users who are concerned about many human life damage, based on the statistical data of the National Fire Protection Agency's National Fire Information Center and the Fire Defense Administration Fire Defense Administration, Attempts were made on the exploratory approach to measures that can reduce the topic of. In this research, using the preventive firefighting administrative statistics of the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, we analyzed by focusing on the effectiveness of multiple users' firefighting safety education. Through analysis results we could infer that fire safety education does not have effectiveness in actual fire prevention. Through previous research, we found out that the cause is insufficient for the management of fire safety education, thereby deriving an improvement plan to develop a systematic fire safety education system.

  • Korea faces challenges in securing technical talent due to low birth rates and an aging population. To bridge labor market gaps, tailored education programs through universities are crucial. Although Program for Industrial needs-Matched Education (PRIME) encouraged developing industrial-university education courses, a few universities have the opportunities and the courses development is often depending on capability of a professor. Furthermore, administrative issues hinder progress. This study proposes streamlining administrative processes and leveraging technology to meet industry demands. Active collaboration between academia and industry can enhance education and benefit both employees and students.

An Estimation of ASL in Appraisal : Using Korea National Wealth Survey Data (유형고정자산 감정을 위한 내용연수 산정)

  • Although the 1997 Raw Data of the National Wealth Statistical Survey (South Korea) is timely 20-year-old data, it is meaningful as a benchmarking in the capital stock estimations of Korea, which is estimated by PIM (permanent inventory method). In the case of machinery/equipment, it is the data that can analyze in depth the changes in the industrial structure of Korea. In the case of ASL (average service life) which has economic concept, since the change of ASL is not so large, ASL yielded by the Raw Data of the 1997 National Wealth Statistical Survey is meaningful as reference value for the ASL estimated by the Bank of Korea and the National Statistical Office. As you know Japan has changed its service life due to changes in its industrial structure. However, many of its assets are still used for the years indicated in Showa (before 1989). The same trend with other countries such as Japan. However, the United States is constantly devoted to assessing the useful ASL and value of assets by distinguishing between the Hulten-Wykoff models and those not. Korea has also benchmarked the useful ASL of the United States and Japan when it conducted its own survey every 10 years by due diligence until 1997. In this study, the 'constraint' Iowa curve estimation by the Raw Data of the 1997 National Wealth Statistical Survey is based on the age records of the assets and the maximum age of the assets appropriately derived. And then we made modified Iowa curve by smoothing. From this modified one, we suggested ASL by asset. After 1997, the vintage disposal data directly were collected by the National Statistical Office with Oh Hyun Seung, Cho Jin Hyung, in order to estimate the useful ASL. Since then, the B/S team of the Economic and Statistics Bureau of the Bank of Korea has been working on a new concept of content training.

A Study on the Development of iGPS 3D Probe for RDS for the Precision Measurement of TCP (RDS(Robotic Drilling System)용 TCP 정밀계측을 위한 iGPS 3D Probe 개발에 관한 연구)

  • There are increasing demands from the industry for intelligent robot-calibration solutions, which can be tightly integrated to the manufacturing process. A proposed solution can simplify conventional robot-calibration and teaching methods without tedious procedures and lengthy training time. iGPS(Indoor GPS) system is a laser based real-time dynamic tracking/measurement system. The key element is acquiring and reporting three-dimensional(3D) information, which can be accomplished as an integrated system or as manual contact based measurements by a user. A 3D probe is introduced as the user holds the probe in his hand and moves the probe tip over the object. The X, Y, and Z coordinates of the probe tip are measured in real-time with high accuracy. In this paper, a new approach of robot-calibration and teaching system is introduced by implementing a 3D measurement system for measuring and tracking an object with motions in up to six degrees of freedom. The general concept and kinematics of the metrology system as well as the derivations of an error budget for the general device are described. Several experimental results of geometry and its related error identification for an easy compensation / teaching method on an industrial robot will also be included.

Exploring the Direction of School System Reorganization of Meister High School and Analyzing the Perceptions of Participants (마이스터고 학제 개편 방향 탐색 및 관계자 인식 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the direction of school system reorganization in order to strengthen the educational competitiveness of Meister high school. Specifically, the first one was to review prior research related to the school system reorganization of vocational education at the secondary level, and to propose school system reorganization plans of Meister high school. And second one was to analyze the perceptions of related parties about this reorganization plans and to derive important implications. The results of this study were as follows. First, based on the results of the analysis of precedent research, school system reorganization plans of Meister high school was composed of (1) introduction of credit system, (2) introduction of 3-semester system, and (3) expansion of school year. Second, as a result of the questionnaire survey conducted by 138 Meister high school teachers and 185 Meister high school graduates, both group seemed to agree on the necessity of school system reorganization of Meister high school. In addition, the necessity of introducing the proposed reorganization plans was more than a certain level, but the applicability was recognized as somewhat lower than the necessity of introduction. Third, the results of the FGI analysis on industrial personnel showed a positive response, especially regarding the operation of advanced course due to the expansion of school year. Based on this results, it was proposed to design a more systematic reorganization model and provide policy support, to examine the whole scale expansion through pilot application, and to collect opinions more systematically from industrial field experts on school system reorganization plans.

An Exploratory study on the demand for training programs to improve Real Estate Agents job performance -Focused on Cheonan, Chungnam- (부동산중개인의 직무능력 향상을 위한 교육프로그램 욕구에 관한 탐색적 연구 -충청남도 천안지역을 중심으로-)

  • Until recently, research trend in real estate has been focused on real estate market and the market analysis. But the studies on real estate training program development for real estate agents to improve their job performance are relatively short in numbers. Thus, this study shows empirical analysis of the needs for the training programs for real estate agents in Cheonan to improve their job performance. The results are as follows. First, in the survey of asking what educational contents they need in order to improve real estate agents' job performance, most of the respondents show their needs for the analysis of house's value, legal knowledge, real estate management, accounting, real estate marketing, and understanding of the real estate policy. This is because they are well aware that the best way of responding to the changing clients' needs comes from training programs. Secondly, asked about real estate marketing strategies, most of respondents showed their awareness of new strategies to meet the needs of clients. This is because new forms of marketing strategies including internet ads are needed in the field as the paradigm including Information Technology changes. Thirdly, asked about the need for real estate-related training programs, 92% of the respondents answered they need real estate education programs run by the continuing education centers of the universities. In addition, the survey showed their needs for retraining programs that utilize the resources in the local universities. Other than this, to have effective and efficient training programs, they demanded running a training system by utilizing the human resources of the universities under the name of the department of 'Real Estate Contract' for real estate agents' job performance. Fourthly, the survey revealed real estate management(44.2%) and real estate marketing(42.3%) is the most chosen contents they want to take in the regular course for improving real estate agents' job performance. This shows their will to understand clients' needs through the mind of real estate management and real estate marketing. The survey showed they prefer the training programs as an irregular course to those in the regular one. Despite the above results, this study chose subjects only in Cheanan and thus it needs to research more diverse areas. The needs of programs to improve real estate agents job performance should be analyzed empirically targeting the real estate agents not just in Cheonan but also cities like Pyeongchon, Ilsan and Bundang in which real estate business is booming, as well as undergraduate and graduate students whose major is real estate studies. These studies will be able to provide information to help develop the customized training programs by evaluating elements that real estate agents need in order to meet clients satisfaction and improve their job performance. Many variables of the program development learned through these studies can be incorporated in the curriculum of the real estate studies and used very practically as information for the development of the real estate studies in this fast changing era.
