  • Torque pulsation mechanism and highly nonlinear magnetic characterization of switched reluctance motors(SRM) lead to unfavorable torque ripple and limit the variety of applications in industry. In this paper, a modification method proposed for torque ripple minimization of SRM based on conventional torque sharing functions(TSF) to improve maximum speed of torque ripple-free operation considering converter limitations. Due to increasing phase inductance in outgoing phase during the commutation region, reference current tracking can be deteriorated especially when the speed increased. Moreover, phase torque production in incoming phase may not be reached to the reference value near the turn-on angle in which the incremental inductance would be dramatically decreased. Torque error for outgoing phase can cause increasing the resultant motor torque while it would be negative for incoming phase and yields reducing the motor torque. In this paper, a modification method is proposed in which phase torque tracking error for each phase under the commutation added to the other phase so that the resultant torque remained in constant level. This yields to extend constant torque region and reduce peak phase current when the speed increased. Simulation and experimental results for four phase 4 KW, 8/6 SRM validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, a novel zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) interleaved two switch forward converter is proposed. By using a coupled-inductor-type smoothing filter, a snubber capacitor, the parallel capacitance of the leading switches and the transformer parasitic inductance, the proposed converter can realize soft-switching for the main power switches. This converter can effectively reduce the primary circulating current loss by using the coupled inductor and the snubber capacitor. Furthermore, this converter can reduce the reverse recovery loss, parasitic ringing and transient voltage stress in the secondary rectifier diodes caused by the leakage inductors of the transformer and the coupled inductance. The operation principle and steady state characteristics of the converter are analyzed according to the equivalent circuits in different operation modes. The practical effectiveness of the proposed converter was is illustrated by simulation and experimental results via a 500W, 100 kHz prototype using the power MOSFET.

  • In this paper, in order to prevent a fall accident that occurs while working without fastening the safety hook at a construction site, a method to detect whether the safety hook is fastened using two coils is proposed. Ansys' Maxwell, an electromagnetic wave analysis simulator, was used to analyze the magnetic field before and after the safety hook fastening, and the possibility of confirming the fastening of the safety hook using the difference in the mutual inductance change and the resulting current induced in the receiving coil was shown.

  • In the previous work, we performed the analysis of a tubular type moving-magnet linear oscillatory actuator (LOA) with cylindrical Halbach array by using 2-d analytical formulas and confirmed validity of analytical results by comparison of those with both finite element (FE) computation and experimental results. This paper deals with the dynamic characteristic analysis of the moving-magnet LOA with cylindrical Halbach array. Control parameters such as the thrust constant, the back-emf constant, resistance and inductance are obtained from both analytical and experimental results. And then, the dynamic simulation algorithm is established by the state and output equation obtained from voltage and motion equation. Finally, for various values of frequency, the dynamic simulation and experimental results for the characteristics of the voltage, current and displacement of moving-magnet LOA are presented. The simulation results are validated extensively by experiments. The experimental and simulation results for the variation of stroke according to control voltage are also presented for various values of frequency.

  • Triangular patches have been studied, both theoretically and experimentally. We feund that provided radiation characteristics similar to those of rectangular patches, but with smaller size. In this paper, we designed an equilateral triangular microstrip patch antenna using cavity model analysis. Then, in order to improve narrow bandwidth, we add capacitive gap and air gap. Capacitive gap is located with square shape beside feeding point on the patch, and air gap is inserted between substrate dielectric and ground plane to adjust probe inductance. The analysis of characteristics and effects of each component was performed by commercial simulation tool, Ensemble 5.0. Throughout the simulation and experiment, we found the possibility of bandwidth enhancement in triangular microstrip antenna.

  • This paper presents a methodology and application for extracting parasitic inductances in a multi-level interconnect semiconductor structure by a numerical technique. In order to calculate the parasitic inductances, the distrubution of electric potential and current density in the metal lines are calculated by finite element method (FEM). Thereafter, the magneto-static energy caused by the current density in metal lines was calculated. The result of simulation is compared with the result of Grover equation about analytic simple structures, and 4 bit ROM array with a dimension of $13{\times}10.25{\times}8.25{\mu}m^3$ was simulated to extract the parasitic inductnaces. In this calculation, 6,358 nodes with 31,941 tetrahedra were used in ULTRA 10 workstation. The total CPU time for the simulation was about 150 seconds, while the memory size of 20 MB was required.

  • This paper analyzes the electrical characteristic such as the impedance(Z), inductance(L), and cable resistance($R_p$) according to the change of cable length in order to move the electrical sorting device for distinguishing between AF non-insulated track circuits from the center of railway to outside railway. The simulation is performed to check the voltage difference between the voltage of sender and the voltage of receiver and determine the possibility of the voltage restoration availability in the frequency filter band through the capacitor compensation. It was applied to the results of the simulation to the sorting devices installed in the actual field. It is proved the availability by checking the measured voltage characteristic according to the capacitor compensating change of $10{\mu}F$ and $16{\mu}F$ before, and after the length of cable is increased with 6 meters. Through this, the prevention of breakdown and damage to facilities and the prevention the safety-related accidents of line workers from the train are expected according to moving the sorting devices of AR non-insulated track circuits to outside railway.

  • In this paper, we have studied several operating characteristics through the analysis of system. First, we have constituted the equivalent circuit to analyze the operating characteristics of rotating type of superconducting power supply and have induced the optimal design parameter. The computer simulation have showed that the pumping current is in proportion to the area of the pole and rotor speed, and is inverse proportion to the magnitude of load. Therefore, to acquire maximum pumping current we must design the power supply system with maximum area of the pole and minimum inductance of the load.

  • Generally, internal parameters of the motors and generators can be divided to the resistance and inductance components. They can become a cause of the changing internal parameters because they have sensitive characteristics due to external conditions. The changed parameters can generate the outputs which include error values from the speed and current controllers. Also, it can bring the temperature increase and mechanical damage to the system. Therefore, internal parameters of the motors and generators need to obtain their values according to the external conditions because it can prevent the mechanical damage caused by the changed parameters. In this paper, the off-line parameter identification method is verified using the Goertzel algorithm. The motor used in the simulation and experiments is an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), and the proposed algorithm is verified by the simulation and experimental results.
