Due to improvements in the capabilities of commercial game engines, there are increasing instances of applying game engines to scientific visualization applications. This study describes a case of creating a virtual reality application that visualizes medical volume data based on the Unity3D game engine. When using a game engine, there is an advantage that various functions required for an application are basically provided, such as depth sorting of translucent objects or virtual reality hardware support. On the other hand, there is a restriction that the structure of the application program should be modified to suit the characteristics of the game engine. This paper describes a method for visualizing medical volume data using the structure of a game engine. As a result, we were able to create a virtual reality scene that consisted of surface data and medical volume data fragments together. And we confirmed the possibility of game engine as a future medical simulation production tool.
Having a virtual talking face along with a virtual body increases immersion in VR applications. As virtual reality (VR) techniques develop, various applications are increasing including multi-user social networking and education applications that involve talking avatars. Due to a lack of sensory information for full face and body motion capture in consumer-grade VR, most VR applications do not show a synced talking face and body. We propose a novel method, targeted for VR applications, for talking face synced with audio with an upper-body inverse kinematics. Our system presents a mirrored avatar of a user himself in single-user applications. We implement the mirroring in a single user environment and by visualizing a synced conversational partner in multi-user environment. We found that a realistic talking face avatar is more influential than an un-synced talking avatar or an invisible avatar.

Due to the popularity of smart phones based on personal propensities and individual lifestyle changes customerized services is increasing interest in the individual. The system for personalized services make a difference in the public institutions, museum of science and history. In particular, museums and art galleries have a common motivation which is sightseeing. Museum for the history and science education a national purpose that is put, unlikely art gallery. Museum of science and History, unlike the theme parks have a combination of entertainment and education as a public institution is a large consensus. In order to achieve this objective, exhibits raise a sufficient commitment to and the exhibits should be described by age. Using augmented reality combined with effective entertainment and education measures, we propose the effective smart guide service strategies for museum.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common psychiatric disorders in childhood. This disorder, in addition to its main symptoms, creates significant difficulties in education, social performance, and personal relationships. Given the importance of rehabilitation for these patients to combat the above issues, the use of virtual reality (VR) technology is helpful. The aim of this study was to highlight the opportunities for VR in the rehabilitation of children with ADHD. This narrative review was conducted by searching for articles in scientific databases and e-Journals, using keywords including VR, children, and ADHD. Various studies have shown that VR capabilities in the rehabilitation of children with ADHD include providing flexibility in accordance with the patients' requirements; removing distractions and creating an effective and safe environment away from real-life dangers; saving time and money; increasing patients' incentives based on their interests; providing suitable tools to perform different behavioral tests and increase ecological validity; facilitating better understanding of individuals' cognitive deficits and improving them; helping therapists with accurate diagnosis, assessment, and rehabilitation; and improving working memory, executive function, and cognitive processes such as attention in these children. Rehabilitation of children with ADHD is based on behavior and physical patterns and is thus suitable for VR interventions. This technology, by simulating and providing a virtual environment for diagnosis, training, monitoring, assessment and treatment, is effective in providing optimal rehabilitation of children with ADHD.
Currently the bottleneck in virtual reality's commercialization might be that high cost VR equipment is needed and interesting VR contents are not enough. The purpose of this paper is to solve these problems by implementing low-cost VR system with wireless controller and HMD(Head Mounted Display) using a smart phone and PC. The functions of real HMD are simulated by utilizing the display and embedded sensors of a smart phone. In that situation PC is in charge of processing huge data and is communicated with smart phone. And wireless controller is designed to make VR user's movement to be free. In addition, we made the several VR contents for testing our prototype system directly. Easy access to VR equipment could induce increasing number of users and investment. And it will be a big step toward improving VR technology and its commercialization.

Due to the popularity of smart phones, interest in individual lifestyle changes and customized services has been increasing. With these request of change, there are seeking the changes of individual customized service system in public institution, museum, science museum etc. Specially museum, art museum and science museum have the common factor like "watching". Unlike art museum, museum and science museum have the purpose of the history and science education, and have a high expectations of combining entertainment and education as a public institution. For this purpose, they need to raise the immersion of display contents, and run parallel with providing more convincing explanation based on age group. Thus the purpose of this paper is that study the way of combining with efficient entertainment and educational function using argument reality.
As single-person households increase, demands for self interior design has been also increasing. The furniture arrangement takes big part of interior design. But sometimes people need professional helps for the proper and effective arrangement of furniture which makes self-interior design harder. Often, people share information and advices about interior design through Social Network Service. Experts could help directly but this approach would have several issues: First, the detailed and accurate advice would be difficult because experts have to examine the space through 2D pictures or video. Second, they have to make an appointment which would cause inconvenience to both customer and expert. In this paper, the furniture arrangement application for real-time sharing of interior design based on virtual reality is proposed to make up for the weak points. People can precisely share information and advice about self-interior design through this application in realtime, reducing waste of time and energy.
This paper addresses the problem of how to effectively use virtual reality(VR) for improving the quality of safety training systems. As the working environment and the working system in the industry are more and more complex and large-scaled, the concern with system safety is accordingly growing. Safety training systems are regarded as an effective way for increasing workers' interest in system safety and enhancing their ability of preventing and handling accidents/incidents. Recently, it has been reported that VR would be effectively used for improving the quality of safety training systems, with its technically specialized features. However, little attention has been given to the problem of how to effectively use VR for safety training systems. In order to make the best use of new technology such as VR, it is important to examine its advantages and disadvantages and the contexts to which its use can be beneficial. This paper firstly reviews the current status of safety training systems and the use of VR for safety training systems in the inside and outside of the country. Next, we summarize the interview with safety managers in four manufacturing companies, which was conducted to understand the requirements of stake-holders of the issue. Based on the review and the interview, we suggested the ways of using VR in safety training systems in an effective manner. They are described from the four perspectives: development and maintenance cost, lack of specialized workers, design of accident scenarios used with VR, and empirical demonstration of the effectiveness of VR in safety training.
This study looks to explore situations in which the authenticity of reality audition programs is inherently distorted by subjective intervention through a theoretical model of existentialism and case study of how it was practiced in an actual program. In detail, we examine the impact on the essence of human subjective intervention and the behavior by free will and use Sartre's existentialism a theoretical model and a Korean audition program series as the case for the study. We believe that the producers intended to narrow the audiences choices by creating a favorable environments for certain participants (trainees as they were called) to be recognized and liked by the voting audiences. We look to "subjectivity," the first principle of existentialism, people determine their essence through free will, and all actions in the production process are aimed at achieving that goal, which keeps the position balance of final debut group by creating the character image and personality through character making, storytelling and increasing or decrease the assigned air-time of each individuals.

Virtual reality seems to be the center of the next generation platform, which is founded on various engines that can easily make device progress and content. However, the interaction between virtual reality contents and users is thought of as relatively requiring technological advances. In this paper, we propose a technique to improve the interaction technique based on the case of Virtual Figure Model Crafting (VFMC) to analyze the problem of interaction caused by virtual reality contents. We introduced the concept of Head-Up Display (HUD) to present a more natural interaction method. The HUD is the digital visual interface of the aircraft. The advantage of HUD visual interface is to minimizes the user's visual movement by displaying the information of the scattered view to the forward direction of the pilot. In other words, we can reduce unnecessary left and right movements that make it is possible to expect an effect of reducing fatigue and increasing immersion.
