A series of pullout tests were carried out on waste tire treadmats of various weave arrangements, with confining stresses ranging from 9 to 59 kPa approximately, in order to investigate the pullout behavior and to apply the results to the design of treadmat reinforced soil structures. A treadmat reinforcement can be considered as belonging to the extensible type thus progressive failure would develop in every tread. The pullout capacity of a treadmat was found to be generally equal to the sum of capacities of the longitudinal treads, with minor enhancement realized due to the presence of transverse treads. Pullout failures occurred in treadmats under light surcharge and with treadmats with higher material presence per unit area, while breakage failures occurred in treadmats under heavier surcharge and with treadmats with higher ratio of opening. The pullout capacity of a treadmat increased with increasing surcharge height and treadmat stiffness. A pullout test on a commercially available geogrid was also carried out for comparison and the pullout capacity of a treadmat was found higher than that of the comparable geogrid under identical loading conditions, indicating the merit of using the treadmat as an alternative to the chosen geogrid.

Large outrigger elements tie the concrete core to perimeter columns, significantly increasing the building's lateral stiffness as well as its resistance to overturning due to wind. The outriggers are deep elements, and large tie forces are resisted by top and bottom heavy longitudinal reinforcing and vertical ties. To reduce construction costs, all primary reinforcing bars in outrigger levels are SD500. Further, concrete strengths of 80MPa have been specified for outrigger elements. However, the reductions in the amount of concrete and reinforcement steel are more increased in tall building. With these backgrounds, 80MPa high strength concrete outrigger system using post tension method is developed. Significant economic savings can be made by reducing the element sizes and material content. The developed outrigger system is designed using strut-and-tie models. In addition, four 1/4-scale test specimens were selected from the same prototype structure. The results from the tests are confirmed that the structural behaviors of the developed outrigger member have better capacities than those of a conventional method.
Under constant and cyclic axial compression, square composite short columns reinforced with Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) added with scrap rubber infilled inside steel tubes and with different types of concrete were cast and tested. The test is carried out to find the effectiveness of utilizing an aggregate manufactured from industrial waste and to address the problems associated with the need for alternative reinforcements along with waste management. The main testing parameters are the type of concrete, the effect of fiber inclusion, and the significance of rubber-infilled steel tubes. The failure modes of the columns and axial load-displacement curves of the steel tube-reinforced columns were all thoroughly investigated. According to the test results, all specimens failed due to compression failure with a longitudinal crack along the loading axis. The fiber-reinforced column specimens demonstrated improved ductility and energy absorption. In comparison to the normal-weight concrete columns, the lightweight concrete columns significantly improved the axial load-carrying capacity. The addition of basalt fiber to the columns significantly increased the yield stress and ultimate stress to 9.21%. The corresponding displacement at yield load and ultimate load was reduced to 10.36% and 28.79%, respectively. The precision of volumetric information regarding the obtained crack quantification, aggregates, and the fiber in concrete is studied in detail through image processing using MATLAB environment.
The management of waste tire rubber has become a pressing environmental and health issue, requiring sustainable solutions to mitigate fire hazards and conserve natural resources. The performance of waste materials in structural components needs to be investigated to fabricate sustainable structures. This study aims to investigate the behavior of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) reinforced rubberized concrete (GRRC) compressive components under compressive loads. Nine GRRC circular compressive components, varying in longitudinal and transverse reinforcement ratios, were constructed. A 3D nonlinear finite element model (FEM) was proposed by means of the ABAQUS software to simulate the behavior of the GRRC compressive components. A comprehensive parametric analysis was conducted to assess the impact of different parameters on the performance of GRRC compressive components. The experimental findings demonstrated that reducing the spacing of GFRP stirrups enhanced the ductility of GRRC compressive components, while the addition of rubberized concrete further improved their ductility. Failure in GRRC compressive components occurred in a compressive columnar manner, characterized by vertical cracks and increased deformability. The finite element simulations closely matched the experimental results. The proposed empirical model, based on 600 test samples and considering the lateral confinement effect of FRP stirrups, demonstrated higher accuracy (R2 = 0.835, MSE = 171.296, MAE = 203.549, RMSE = 195.438) than previous models.

This paper concerns the structural behavior of high-strength concrete beams with compressive strength of 80 MPa subjected to flexure. Main test variables were nominal yielding strength of longitudinal rebar including normal strength rebar(SD 400) and high strength rebar(SD 600), reinforcement ratio from 0.98 to 1.58% and beam section size with $200{\times}250$, $200{\times}300mm$. The nine beams were cast and tested under flexure. The study investigated ultimate flexural strength, load-deflection relationship, crack patterns, failure patterns and ductility of the test beams. Test results indicate that when rebar ratio increased flexural strength increased and ductility decreased. In addition, the number of cracks increased and the crack width decreased as the reinforcement ratio increased. The yield strength of rebar did not affect significantly load-crack width relationship. Nonlinear analysis of test beams was performed and then test results and analytical results of ultimate load were compared. Analytical results of high-strength concrete beams overall underestimated flexural strength of test beams.

A demand of high bearing capacity of piles to resist heavy static loads has been increased. For this reason, the utilization of large diameter PHC piles including a range from 700 mm to 1,200 mm have been increased and applied to the construction sites in Korea recently. In this study, in order to increase the flexural strength capacity of the PHC pile, the large diameter composite PHC pile reinforced by in-filled concrete and reinforcement was developed and manufactured. All the specimens were tested under four-point bending setup and displacement control. From the strain behavior of transverse bar, it was found that the presence of transverse bar was effective against crack propagation and controlling crack width as well as prevented the web shear cracks. The flexural strength and mid-span deflection of LICPT specimens were increased by a maximum of 1.08 times and 1.19 times compared to the LICP specimens. This results indicated that the installed transverse bar is in an advantageous ductility performance of the PHC piles. A conventional layered sectional analysis for the pile specimens was performed to investigate the flexural strength according to the each used material. The calculated bending moment of conventional PHC pile and composite PHC pile, which was determined by P-M interaction curve, showed a safety factor 1.13 and 1.16 compared to the test results.

This paper predicted the shear behavior of reinforced concrete columns using Transformation Angle Truss Model (TATM) considered the effects of bending moment and axial force. Nine columns with various shear span- to-depth ratios and axial force ratios were tested to verify the theoretical results obtained from TATM. Fine linear displacement transducers (LVDT) were attached to a side of the column near the shear critical region to measure the curvature, the longitudinal and transverse axial deformations, and the shear deformation of the column. The test was terminated when the value of the applied load dropped to about $85\%$ of the maximum-recorded load in the post-peak descending branch. All the columns were failed in shear before yielding of the flexural steel. The shear strength and the stiffness of the columns increased, as the axial force increased and the shear span-to-depth ratio decreased. Shear stress-shear strain and shear stress-strain of shear reinforcement curves obtained from TATM were agreed well with the test results in comparison to other truss models (MCFT, RA-STM, and FA-STM).

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the anchorage capacity of longitudinal bars for reinforced concrete exterior beam - column joints with steel fiber volume fractions. For this purpose, the steel fiber volume fraction was set to 0, 1, 2%, and the performance was compared with that of each other specimens. According to the test results, the maximum strength of EX-HK-NJR-0 decreased by 13% compared with the control specimen and EX-HK-NJR-1 decreased by 3% compared to the control specimen. However, when 2% of steel fiber was mixed, the maximum strength increased about 56% compared to the control specimen. The energy dissipation capacity of EX-HK-NJR-0 (when no transverse steel bars are placed) decreased by 61% compared to the control specimen. In addition, the energy dissipation capacity of the specimens with a steel fiber content of 1% decreased by 5% and 2% increased by 94% compared to control specimen. EX-HK-NJR-1,2 and the control specimen EX-HK-JR-0 experienced yielding of the reinforcing bars at the column interface before maximum strength development. However, when the EX-HK-NJR-0, the reinforcing bars at the column interface experienced yielding after maximum strength development. Therefore, reinforcement of steel fiber is considered to reduce the required development length for yielding of steel bars.
The present investigation evaluates the flexural behavior of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beams under two-point symmetrical concentrated loads according to the variation of the partial prestressing ratio and the effective prestress of prestressing strands. The designed compressive strength of the lightweight concrete with a dry density of 1,770 $kg/m^3$ was 35 MPa. The deformed bar with a yield strength of 383 MPa and three-wire mono-strands with tensile strength of 2,040 MPa were used for longitudinal tensile reinforcement and prestressing steel reinforcement, respectively. According to the test results, the flexural capacity of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beams increased with the increase of the partial prestressing ratio and was marginally influenced by the effective prestress of strands. With the same reinforcing index, the normalized flexural capacity of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beams was similar to that of pre-tensioned normal-weight concrete beams tested by Harajli and Naaman and Bennett. On the other hand, the displacement ductility ratio of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beams increased with the decrease of the partial prestressing ratio and with the increase of the effective prestress of strands. The load-displacement relationship of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beam specimens can be suitably predicted by the developed non-linear two-dimensional analysis procedure. In addition, the flexural cracking moment and flexural capacity of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beams can be conservatively evaluated using the elasticity theorem and the approach specified in ACI 318-08, respectively.
This paper presents the flexural behavior and strengthening effect of reinforced concrete beams bonded with carbon FRP plate. Parameters involved in this experimental study were plate bond length and sheet web anchorage length. Test beams were strengthened with FRP plate on the soffit and anchored with FRP sheet on the web. In general, strengthened beams with no web anchorage were failed by concrete cover failure along the longitudinal reinforcement. On the other hand, strengthened beams with web anchorage were finally failed by delamination shear failure within concrete after breaking of CFRP sheet wrapping around web. The ultimate load and deflection of strengthened beams increased with an increased bond length of FRP plate. Also, the ultimate load and deflection increased with an increased anchorage length of FRP sheet. Particularly, the strengthened beams with web anchorage maintained high ultimate load resisting capacity until very large deflection. The shape of strain distribution of CFRP plate along beam was very similar to that of bending moment diagram. Therefore, an assumption of constant shear stress in shear span could be possible in the analysis of delamination shear stress of concrete. In the case of full bond length, the ultimate resisting shear stress provided by concrete and FRP sheet Increased with an increase of web anchorage length. In the resisting shear force, a portion of the shear force was provided by FRP anchorage sheet.
