Background: To assess the accuracy of ultrasound in differentiating endometrioma from ovarian cancer and to describe pattern recognition for atypical endometriomas mimicking ovarian cancers. Materials and Methods: Patients scheduled for elective surgery for adnexal masses were sonographically evaluated for endometrioma within 24 hours of surgery. All examinations were performed by the same experienced sonographer, who had no any information of the patients, to differentiate between endometriomas and non-endometriomas using a simple rule (classic ground-glass appearance) and subjective impression (pattern recognition). The final diagnosis as a gold standard relied on either pathological or post-operative findings. Results: Of 638 patients available for analysis, 146 were proven to be endometriomas. Of them, the simple rule and subjective impression could sonographically detect endometriomas with sensitivities of 64.4% (94/146) and 89.7% (131/146), respectively. Of 52 endometriomas with false negative tests by the simple rule, 13 were predicted as benign masses and 39 were mistaken for malignancy. Solid masses and papillary projections were the most common forms mimicking ovarian cancer, consisting of 38.5% of the missed diagnoses. However, with pattern recognition (subjective impression), 32 from 39 cases mimicking ovarian cancer were correctly predicted for endometriomas. All endometriomas subjectively predicted for ovarian malignancy were associated with high vascularization in the solid masses. Conclusions: Pattern recognition of endometriomas by subjective assessment had a higher sensitivity than the simple rule in characterization of endometriomas. Most endometriomas mimicking ovarian malignancy could be correctly predicted by subjective impression based on familiarity of pattern recognition.
This study aims to examine the differences in impression formation according to the accessories and hairstyles worn by men, and to investigate the relation between men's appearance and occupation inferences. The subjects were 320 female university students residing in the Seoul metropolitan area. First, wearing eyeglasses gave an impression of more intelligent image and less mild image. It was evaluated that the men wearing neckties have a high dimension of intelligence, and men wearing no necktie have a high dimension of progressiveness. Men with classic hairstyles had a high dimension of intelligence, while men with sports hairstyles had a high dimension of progressiveness, conspicuousness, and attractiveness. Second, metal rims on glasses had a high dimension of empowerment and attractiveness when a red necktie was worn, while horn-rimmed glasses with no necktie had a high dimension of conspicuousness and progressiveness. The men with sports hairstyles, with no eyeglasses had the highest dimension of progressiveness when a red necktie was worn. Third, it was evaluated that wearing a cloche hat or baseball cap had a low dimension of empowerment, while wearing a necklace had a high dimension of empowerment, conspicuousness, and progressiveness. Fourth, the men who wore a suit, eyeglasses, and a necktie with a classic hairstyle were deduced to be professionals, with high-ranking or white-collar jobs. It was found that when men wore a suit with a sports hairstyle, no eyeglasses, and no ties, they were inferred to be engaged in a service job. The baseball caps were strongly associated with technical or simple labor job.

The purpose of this study is to suggest sleeve cap height with a satisfying wearing sensation and appearance on jackets for women in their twenties so that high-consumer demand jackets can be produced. Five experimental jackets with sleeve cap heights of [(AH/3)-1cm], [(AH/3)-0.5cm], [AH/3], [(AH/3)+0.5cm] and [(AH/3)+0.8cm] were made for 30 subjects to try on after which the subjects were then surveyed for their assessment of appearance, wearing sensation and preference. On the basis of the results, the optimum height of the sleeve cap has been proposed along with the following contents and results of this research. 1. [AH/3] [(AH/3)+0.8cm] of sleeve cap height was assessed to beof desirable appearance. 2. [AH/3] of sleeve cap height garnered a high opinion in terms of intuitive wearing sensation, while [(AH/3)-1cm] [AH/3] were the heights with overall satisfaction of intuitive and movement wearing sensations. If discomfort in the upper sleeve at 'straight arm' posture can be tolerated, the sleeve cap height can be set to [(AH/3)-1cm]~[(AH/3)+0.5cm]. 3. [AH/3] and [(AH/3)+0.5cm] were found to have a high preference among wearers, which indicated that the women in their twenties prefer a slim type of sleeve, putting appearance above wearing sensation. Consequently, [AH/3] is desirable when appearance, wearing sensation and preference are considered, [(AH/3)+0.5cm] is fit for business uniform for static duties or formal dress focused on aesthetic impression and [(AH/3)-1cm]~[AH/3] are desirable for work clothes when considering active duties.

The purpose of this study was (1) to identify the experimental bias which could appear person perception as results of presentation methods (2) to find out the most desirable method in presentation of stimulus. The research was a quasi experiment and the subjects were 773 male and female undergraduate students. The experimental instruments consisted of a set of stimulus and semantic differential scales of 7- point hi-polar adjectives. The collected data were analyzed by Factor Analysis, ANOVA(analysis of variance), Scheffe's multiple range test. The independent variables were presentation orders and presentation time of stimulus. The results were as follows: First, five factors which were potency, sociality, appearance, evaluation, activity impression dimensions emerged to account for the methods of development of stimulus. Second, the presentation order of stimulus in the combination of four stimuli sets had significant effects on the 3 impressional factors(sociality, appearance, evaluation). The presentation order of stimuli in the combination of eight stimuli set had significant effects on the 3 impressional factors(potency, sociality, appearance) and the presentation order of stimuli in the combination of eight stimuli set showed a significant effect on memorization of stimulus and the results support the recency effect. Third, the presentation time of stimuli had significant effects on the 2 impressional factors(potency, activity). 30 seconds presentation as well as free duration time resulted less experimental bias than 3 seconds presentation.

The purpose of this study was to examine the importance of personal attributes as they related to developing first impressions and managing group acceptance in the context of sorority recruitment process. Specifically, we examined how certain personal characteristics of a sorority member were related to her use of a potential member's clothing and appearance as non-verbal cues during the member selection process. The characteristics identified through the literature review were materialism, fashion clothing involvement, and proximity of clothing to self. A questionnaire was distributed to members of two sorority houses at a southeastern university in the United States. A total of 140 US sorority members participated in the study. The results showed that a member's satisfaction with her chapter, her level of participation, and her length of membership in the chapter had no relation with her tendency to base her member selection on clothing and appearance. However, members' use of clothing and appearance as guiding their member selection decisions was related to other individual characteristics selected for the study(materialism, fashion clothing involvement, and proximity of clothing to self). Fashion clothing involvement and proximity of clothing to self(clothing for acceptance) were most significantly related to clothing-based member selection. Partial correlations were also produced to examine the mediating role of clothing-based impression formation.
This study investigates the effects of children's social relationships and psychological characteristics on their behavior problems. Behavior problems comprise violations of norms, bullying, and deviant behavior in the cyberspace. A data set of 2949 Korean children in their 4th grade is analyzed to yield three main results. First, variables such as contact with delinquent friends, aggressiveness, stress of appearance complex, gender, and depression have significant effects on violations of norms. Children who have more delinquent friends, higher level of aggressiveness, stress of appearance complex, or depression report more violations of norms. Second, delinquent friends, stress of peer relationship, aggressiveness, stress of appearance complex, gender, parents' violent attitudes toward children, and negative self-image are turned out to be important variables predicting bullying. Children with more delinquent friends, higher level of stress, higher level of aggressiveness, or lower self-image are more likely to experience bullying. Children who perceive their parents to be violent show more bullying experience. Third, each of aggressiveness, delinquent friends, stress of appearance complex, gender, relationship with teacher, and family income has significant effect on deviant behavior in cyberspace. Children with higher level of aggressiveness, more delinquent friends, stress of appearance complex, or negative impression of teacher are more likely to deviate in cyberspace. Children from higher income families report more deviant behavior in cyberspace. Boys show more experiences in every category of behavior problems than girls.
The main purpose of this study was to find the roles of sex related clothes. The result of the study showed that he effects of sex related clothes were vast and strong. 1. It appeared that sex related clothes affected the wearer's outside aspects and also inferred the wearer's inside characteristics. Subjects judged the wearer's sex by sex related clothes, and confidence in judgement about the wear's sex also appeared stronger when cue of sex related clothes is more clear than being ambiguous. Judging the model's impression when subjects evaluated other's appearance and personality ,clothes affected it and clothes also had a strong impact when subject inferred others's characteristics such as ability and activity. Among the three kinds of sex related cue like men's clothes, women's clothes and ambiguous clothes, when a model wore men's clothes, he mode's impression judged by the subjects was most favorable and positive. But respondents sex role identity appeared that it didn't affected the judgement of the wearer's sex, evaluation and inference of wearer's characteristics. But this result didn't match with the gender schema theory.
We analyzed the relationships between facial impressions and physical features, and investigated the effects of impressions on facial similarity judgments. Using 79 faces extracted from a face database, we collected the ratings of impressions along four dimensions -mild-fierce, bright-dull, feminine-manly and youthful-mature- and the measures of 41 physical features. Multiple Regression Analyses showed that the ratings of impressions and the measures of features are closely connected with each other. Our experiments using facial similarity judgments confirmed the possibility that facial impressions are used in processing of facial information. We found that people tend to perceive faces as similar when they have the same impressions rather than neutral ones, although all of them are alike physically. These results imply that facial impressions are used as a psychological structure representing facial appearance, and that facial processing includes impression information.
The patient was a 69-year-old male who had decreased VDO and overbite of the anterior teeth due to severe teeth wear. Complete mouth rehabilitation was planned to restore esthetics and function. Due to the presence of a subgingival finish line, poor fit of the margin of the temporary crown, and insufficient oral hygiene management, gingival overgrowth and bleeding occurred in many teeth, and inaccurate impressions were taken. After dividing each arch and taking partial impressions, a transfer coping was made using pattern resin on each working model die, and after being placed on the abutment teeth, a master cast was made through pick-up impression taking to produce prosthesis. In this case, the final prosthesis produced on the second master cast were fitted in terms of proximal contact, marginal fit, vertical occlusal dimension, facial appearance, esthetics, and occlusion. After complete mouth rehabilitation, the patient was satisfied with function and esthetic appearance.
Anti-aging is one of the key words to have characterized Korean society, and Korean adults in their 40s and 50s are very interested in this word. In this study, their cognitive ages and body images which are expected to have been influenced by anti-ageing were determined and correlation between them was examined. A survey was conducted and 368 of 500 questionnaires were used in data analysis. Data were analyzed by descriptives, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple response analysis through SPSS 12.0. The results are as follows. First, the cognitive ages of Korean adults in their 40s and 50s showed to be 37.5 years old which are 9.1 years old younger than their average actual ages. Second, their attitudinal body images appeared to be composed of appearance orientation and appearance evaluation, and appearance orientation represented to be a little higher than appearance evaluation. In addition, it showed that the correlation between cognitive ages and the attitudinal body images was low and negative. Third, people in their 40s and 50s revealed to think good health and impression as ideal body images. It was found that they regarded a face as the most important body part for ideal body images and were sensitive of their weight. Forth, correlation between cognitive ages and variables of ideal body images was identified to be significant in 4 variables which are slender, shapely and slim figure and good body proportions. In conclusion, it was shown that Korean adults in their 40s and 50s recognized themselves to be 9.1 years old younger and, the younger they perceive themselves, the younger body images they want. Also, it could be confirmed that anti-ageing is a megatrend in Korean society.
