Scate: A Scalable Time and Energy Aware Actor Task Allocation Algorithm in Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks

  • In many applications of wireless sensor actor networks (WSANs) that often run in harsh environments, the reduction of completion times of tasks is highly desired. We present a new time-aware, energy-aware, and starvation-free algorithm called Scate for assigning tasks to actors while satisfying the scalability and distribution requirements of WSANs with semi-automated architecture. The proposed algorithm allows concurrent executions of any mix of small and large tasks and yet prevents probable starvation of tasks. To achieve this, it estimates the completion times of tasks on each available actor and then takes the remaining energies and the current workloads of these actors into account during task assignment to actors. The results of our experiments with a prototyped implementation of Scate show longer network lifetime, shorter makespan of resulting schedules, and more balanced loads on actors compared to when one of the three well-known task-scheduling algorithms, namely, the max-min, min-min, and opportunistic load balancing algorithms, is used.

  • In this paper, an efficient and fast algerian to reduce calculation amount of FIR(Finite Impulse Responses) filtering is proposed. Proposed algorithm enables arbitrary size of parallel processing, and their structures are also easily derived. Furthermore, it is shown that the number of multiplication/sample is reduced, and number of instructions using MAC(Multiplication and Accumulation) processor are also reduced. For theoretical improvement numbers of sub filters are compared with those of conventional algorithm. In addition to the theoretical improvement, it is shown that number of element for hardwired implementation are reduced comparison to those of the conventional algorithm.

  • In this paper, we present an implementation of Viola-Jones algorithm in a multi-core SoC by using skin color information and a parallel processing method. In order to reduce unnecessary operations and improve the detection speed, we adopted a face detection algorithm based on skin color and deleted background image. The algorithm is functionally divided into several parts taking account of the size and the dependency so that the divided functions can be proceeded in parallel. Experiment results in SoC with built-in Cortex-A9 multi core show that it is about 1.8 times faster than the existing algorithm which is not divided.

  • In this paper, one of the traditional game, Gonu game, is implemented and experimented. The Minimax algorithm was applied as a technique to implement the Gonu game. We proposed an evaluation function to implement game in Minimax algorithm. We analyze the efficiency of algorithm for alpha beta pruning to improve the performance after implementation of Gonu game. Weights were analyzed for optimal analysis that affected the win or loss of the game. For the weighting analysis, a competition of human and computer was performed. We also experimented with computer and computer. As a result, we proposed a weighting value for optimal attack and defense.

  • Dynamic Heuristic(DH) is not fixed data and is dynamically modified using transferred real time road data from server In this paper, we propose path-finding algorithm with Maximum Speed Dynamic Heuristic (DH-MAX) and do an experiment. The DH-MAX is to be used the highest speed as DH, in real map divided by same sire. And proposed algorithm searches path using the priority searching only of the fixed data, but also the highest speed with real time information. In the performance test, the quality of path is enhanced but the cost of searching is increased than $A^*$ algorithm.

  • Active noise control of random noise which propatate in the vehicle cabin as a form of spherical wave is the target of this study. In the previous study, the adaptive algorithm for adaptive controller is presented for the application in active noise control system. And for the preliminary study of adaptive active noise control in vehicle cabin as a real system, a computer simulation is performed on the effectiveness of the adaptive algorithm in the amplitude of the pressure fluctuation. This work studies the implementation of multi-channel feedforward adaptive algorithm for the reduction of the noise inside a vehicle cabin using a number of secondary sources derived by adaptive filtering of reference noise source. Multi-channel adaptive feedforward algorithm are verified in numerical simulation and semi-experimental justification of developed system is made on a domestic passenger car. In the results of semi-experimental study, the noise of specific region in the interior of automobile are reduced for the appreciabe sound pressure level in the operating engine rpm and finally this study suggests the capabilities of the real time active noise control in 3 dimensional acoustic fields.

  • In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of wireless smart plug having AC power sensor and intelligent standby power control algorithm for energy sensor network. The adaptive standby power control algorithm has function to apply different threshold of standby power by using learning algorithm depending on electric equipments. As using the proposed algorithm, user convenience will be more better and power consumption can be more reduced. The implemented prototypes of wireless smart plug and wireless access point were tested to verify the required functions and performance. As a result, we confirmed practicality of wireless smart power sensor and satisfaction of given design specifications.

  • This paper describes a robust visual surveillance algorithm under outdoor environment. One of the difficult problems for outdoor is to obtain effective updating process of background images. Because background images generally contain the shadows of buildings, trees, moving clouds and other objects, they are changed by lapse of time and variation of illumination. They provide the lowering of performance for surveillance system under outdoor. In this paper, a robust algorithm for visual surveillance system under outdoor is proposed, which apply the mixture Gaussian filter and color invariant property on pixel level to update background images. In results, it was showed that the moving objects can be detected on various shadows under outdoor.

  • We proposed a detection scheme of weather information in CCTV video images in this paper. The scheme obtains the RGB distribution of shiny day and divide a target image into cloud, rain, snow and for RGB distributions. shiny day RGB distribution. Our scheme designed systematically to detection and separation special characteristics of images from complex weather information. Our algorithm has less overhead than the previous methods to use weather database DB at the view of time and space. And our algorithm can be use in real world system with low cost of implementation. Also, our algorithm use informations of temperature, humidity, date, and time to detect the information of weather with high quality.

  • This paper presents parallel sorting algorithm, SHARED-MEMORY-BS and REDUCED-BS, which are implemented on shared-memory parallel computers. These algorithm sort N keys in $O(log^2N)$ time. REDUCED-BS users a parity strategy which gives an idea for the efficient usage of the local memory associated with each processor. By taking advantage of the local memory associated with each processor, the communication of REDUCED-BS is decreased by approximately half that of SHARED-MEMORY-BS. On the basis of alleviating the communication, the algorithm REDUCED-BS results in a significant improvement of performance.
