  • This paper presents a scheme for designing a fuzzy observer for servo control system with nonlinear element, i.e., backlash. It is found that backlash occurs when the feed direction is reversed. Due to the imperfect transient response of the driving mechanism, not only the static backlash error but also the dynamic backlash error is generated on the contouring profile. And also, we utilized two inertia modeling in order to deals with coupled system accurately. The overall control system consists of two parts - a servo controller and an Fuzzy obsever. It is a Takagi-sugeno type fuzzy model whose consequent part is of the state space form is obtained. A simulation is carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • The current study aims to 1) investigate how fashion is perceived in societies that utopian novels were born and 2) what fashion means in utopian worlds by content analyzing two utopian novels, Thomas Mores Utopia and William MorrisN ews from Nowhere. The analyses of Mores Utopia and Morriss News from Nowhere revealed that both utopian societies made corrections from our (imperfect) societies to increase happiness of people. Dresses of those two utopian societies were described as comfortable, pleasant, and attractive. There was a difference in design in that More considered simple and natural designs as the best whereas Morris considered human processed, labor intensive designs as the most attractive. However, fashion did not exist in either utopian world. It is reasonable to say that utopian societies were anti fashion in general due to the conflicting natures of fashion and utopia.

  • This paper considers the parameter estimation problem of the failure intensity function and maintenance effect in a repairable system. We propose estimation procedures for repairable systems on which preventive maintenance is performed. The failure process is modeled by a proportional age reduction model [Brown, Mahoney and Sivazlian(1983)] which is useful to model the imperfect effect of preventive maintenance. When failure and maintenance (preventive) times are given, the maximum likelihood method is used to estimate the maintenance effect and the parameters of intensity function, simultaneously We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators using a genetic algorithm. A numerical example is also presented.

  • In this letter, we propose an efficient near-optimal detection scheme (that makes use of a generalized sphere decoder (GSD)) for blind multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems. In practical MU-MIMO systems, a receiver suffers from interference because the precoding matrix, the result of the precoding technique used, is quantized with limited feedback and is thus imperfect. The proposed scheme can achieve near-optimal performance with low complexity by using a GSD to detect several additional interference signals. In addition, the proposed scheme is suitable for use in blind systems.

  • When robot manipulatros as mathematically modeled. uncetainties may not be avoided. The uncertain factors come from imperfect knowledge of system parameters, payload change. friction, external disturbance and etc. In this work, we proposed a class of robust hybrid control of manipulatosrs. We propose a class of expanded robust hybrid control with the separated bound function and the simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of the algorithm.

  • In this paper, adaptive minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) multiuser detector combined with decision-feedback detector (DFD) is considered fur near-far resistant DS-CDMA system. To provide a reliable input to the adaptive MMSE detector, multiple-access interference (MAI) is regenerated using bit estimates from DFD and subtracted from the received signal. In the adaptive MMSE detector, the effect of the imperfect cancellation is compensated by a least mean square (LMS) algorithm. Through the numerical results, it is shown that, in a near-far situation, the proposed scheme provides superior performance to the matched filter (MF) receiver, adaptive MMSE detector, and DFD in terms of the bit error rate (BER).

  • In this paper, a multiplying digital-to-analog converter (MDAC) circuit for low-power high-resolution CMOS algorithmic A/D converters (ADC's) is proposed. The proposed MDAC is designed to operte properly at a supply at a supply voltge between 3 V and 5 V and employs an analog0domain power reduction technique based on a bias switching circuit so that the total power consumption can be optimized. As metal-to-metal capacitors are implemented as frequency compensation capacitors, opamps' performance can be varied by imperfect process control. The MDAC minimizes the effects by the circuit performance variations with on-chip tuning circuits. The proposed low-power MDAC is implementd as a sub-block of a 10-bit 200kHz algorithmic ADC using a 0.6 um single-poly double-metal n-well CMOS technology. With the power-reduction technique enabled, the power consumption of the experimental ADC is reduced from 11mW to 7mW at a 3.3V supply voltage and the power reduction ratio of 36% is achieved.

  • Reduction of noise level in the cabin of urban transit unit is an important issue to enhance the comfortability of passengers. It is made clear that a cause of increased noise level in cabin is the imperfect airtightness of entrance doors. In this study, the sliding-plug door system is developed to reduce the noise level of cabins by securing the airtightness of entrance door. The sliding-plug door system is composed of air-driven engine, swing arms, guide rails, guide rollers and locking devices. It is economical owing to using the previous door engine system. It is also adequate for the platform system of our subway station. It was tested to prove the reliability of system and was applied to standard urban transit unit. The effectiveness of noise reduction in cabin resulting form the sliding-plug door system was confirmed by test results.

  • In this paper, the performance of dual-hop multi-relay maximum ratio transmission (MRT) over Rayleigh flat fading channels is studied with both conventional (all relays participate the transmission) and opportunistic (best relay is selected to maximize the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)) relaying. Performance analysis starts with the derivation of the probability density function, cumulative distribution function and moment generating function of the SNR. Then, both approximate and asymptotic expressions of symbol error rate (SER) and outage probability are derived for arbitrary numbers of antennas and relays. With the help of asymptotic SER and outage probability, diversity and array gains are obtained. In addition, impact of imperfect channel estimations is investigated and optimum power allocation factors for source and relay are calculated. Our analytical findings are validated by numerical examples which indicate that multi-relay MRT can be a low complexity and reliable option in cooperative networks.
