  • Chemotherapy has significantly improved the prognosis of cancer patients with various malignancies. However, female patients, especially those whoich are premenopausal, suffer from significant chemotherapy induced ovarian function impairment, which decreases their quality of life. Many new techniques for ovarian preservation have been established in recent years. Although the use of gonadotrophin releasing hormone analogues (GnRHa) for this purpose is not a new concept, its effectiveness in protection of ovarian function is still debatable. This article deals with studies and metaanalyses which have been undertaken in the past, demonstrating the impact of GnRHa in ovarian function preservation, and whether their use can be implemented in routine practice.

  • Various mechanical test were conducted on conventional and crosslinked ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE) all prepared from the same lot of medical grade GUR 1050 for artificial joint. The conventional materials were not irradiated and treated by heating. The cosslinked materials were irradiated with $25kGy{\sim}200kGy$ by gamma-ray andthen annealed or remelted. Gamma-ray irradiation and heat treatment process were found to significantly impact the crystallinity, and hence the mechanical behavior, of the highly crosslinked UHMWPE. The radiation dose and heating conditions were key predictors of the uniaxial yielding, plastic flow, and failure properties of conventional and highly crosslinked UHMWPE. The correlation model from experiments would be the basic information to enhance the were resistance of artificial joint liner.

  • It is difficult to determine an optimal inventory level of aircraft engine and modules to achieve the target operational availability since F100-PW-200 & 229 engines of the F-16 & KF-16 aircraft are consisted of 5 modules with different failure rates and costs. This study presents a decision model, combining an integer programming problem and a regression metamodel. Data for the metamodel was attained from results of a simulation model, that represents operational and repair process of F-16 and KF-16. The objective function of an integer programming problem is maximizing the operational availability, representing pessimistic circumstances. Finally, an integer programming problem with a metamodel can make an optimal decision of the inventory level.

  • The air circuit breaker (ACB) with the spring-actuated mechanism was studied to improve the fatigue-proof characteristics of its link. The low-cycle fatigue fracture phenomenon occurred on the critical link, called h-link, of ACB from the repeated rapid closing and opening operations. To analyze the cause of failure, dynamic FE-analysis on the b-link part of ACB was performed considering tile velocity and acceleration of the links per time as boundary conditions, which were obtained by using ADAMS. Also, the S-N curve obtained by experiments was used to investigate requirement on the fatigue-proof characteristics. Then, to reduce the maximum tensile stress on the h-link, three types of h-link were examined and one of them was selected.

  • Uniaxial tension and compression test were conducted on conventional and crosslinked ultra-high molecular polyethylene (UHMWPE) all prepared from the same lot of medical grade GUR 1050. The conventional materials were unirradiated and gamma irradiated with $25kGy{\sim}200kGy$. Gamma irradiated processing was found to significantly impact the crystallinity, and hence the mechanical behavior, of the highly crosslinked UHMWPE. The crystallinity and radiation dose were key predictors of the uniaxial yielding, hardness, plastic flow, and failure properties of conventional and highly crosslinked UHMWPE. • This paper prescribed the structural integrity of the API 5L X65 pipeline subjected to tensile pre-strain. The effects of pre-strain on the mechanical properties of API 5L X65 pipe were substantially investigated through a variety of the experimental procedures. Axial tensile pre-strain of 1.5, 5 and 10% was applied to plate-type tensile specimens cut from the pipe body prior to mechanical testing. Tensile test revealed that yield strength and tensile strength were increased with increasing tensile pre-strain. The increasing rate of the yield strength owing to the pre-strain is greater than that of the tensile strength. However, the pre-strain up to 5% had a little effect on the decreasing of the fracture toughness. The structural integrity of the API 5L X65 pipeline subjected to large plastic deformation was evaluated through the fitness-for service code.

  • After the advent of B787(Boeing Co.), a civil aircraft using composite materials more than 50% of it total structural weight for weight savings, best performances and efficiencies, various endeavors to develop and apply the state of art of structural health monitoring(SHM) technologies for composite aircraft have been made for many years. Despite their plentiful advantages composite aircraft structures are susceptible to the hidden or barely visible impact damages(BVID) and excessive loads that if unchecked may lead to lower structural integrity, loss of operational performance and finally a sudden catastrophic failure of the aircraft structure. In this paper background of SHM technology and relevant technologies for application of SHM technology to the composite aircraft in the near future and requirements for certification of SHM system are shortly presented.

  • It has become ever harder to design reliable circuits with each nanometer technology node under normal operation conditions, a transistor device can be affected by various aging effects resulting in performance degradation and eventually design failure. The reliability (aging) effect has traditionally been the area of process engineers. However, in the future, even the smallest of variations can slow down a transistor's switching speed, and an aging device may not perform adequately at a very low voltage. Because of such dilemmas, the transistor aging is emerging as a circuit designer's problem. Therefore, in this paper, the impact of aging effects on the delay and power dissipation of digital circuits by using nanomneter MOSFET power gating structure has been analyzed.. Based on this analyzed aging models, a reliable digital circuits can be designed.

  • The Reactor internal structures which consist of many complex components are subjected to flow-induced vibration due to high temperature and pressure in Reactor coolant system. The above flow-induced vibration causes degradation of structural integrity of the Reactor and may result in loosing mechanical binding component which might impact other equipment and component or cause flow blockage. It is important to analyze reactor noise signal for the early detection of potential problem or failure in order to diagnosis reactor integrity in the point of view of safety and plant economics. Detailed composition of diagnostic system reactor internal structures using neutron noise(RIDS).
