  • A modeling method for the impact analysis of plate structures employing Hertzian contact theory is presented in this paper. Since local deformation as well as bending deflection of the plate occurs due to the collision, it has to be considered for the impact analysis. When the coefficient of restitution is employed for the impact analysis, the local deformation is not considered. For more accurate and reliable impact analysis, however, the local deformation should be considered. The effects of the location of collision and the collision mass on the impact duration time and the contact force magnitude are investigated through numerical studies employing Hertzian contact theory.

  • This paper deals with a study of striker type impact hammer drill for improving the drilling performance. The study was performed through a numerical simulation of the impact hammer mechanism and an experimental comparison of the numerical simulation results was followed. Optimization of the impact mechanism was also performed. The numerical model of the impact hammer drill takes into account the striker motion and the effects of the pressure in the cylinder as well as the friction acting on the striker. The equation of motion is solved with the pressure equation in the cylinder including the friction force. The friction is considered as a combination of Coulomb friction and viscous damping friction. At the moment of impact, an ideal impact model that uses restitution coefficient is used to calculate the sudden change of the striker motion. The numerically simulated impact force shows a good agreement with the experimental result and thus, the validity of the numerical model is proven. Based upon the proposed model, an optimization was performed to improve the impact force of the hammer drill. The objective function is to maximize the impact force and the used design variables are striker mass, frequency of piston, bit guide mass, cylindrical diameter and dimensions of the mechanism components. Each design variable and some other conditions that are essential to manitain normal operation of the hammer drill are considered as constraints. The optimized result show a remarkable improvement in impact force and an experimental proof was investigated.

  • This study is a fundamental investigation for standardization of the heavy-weight floor impact measuring method by the impact ball. The distribution chrematistics of floor impact sound level and reverberation time in a receiving room of the testing building for floor impact sound were measured with variations of number and arrangement of the sound-absorbing materials. Total 8 cases were investigated. The distribution of the floor impact sound level($L_{i,\;Fmax}$) was measured at 30 points with same intervals. The absorption coefficient of the room is 0.10 in case of installation of 6 absorbing materials and 0.02 in case of non-installation. The distribution shape of the impact sound pressure level was similar to the result of the bang machine driving at the measured frequency range. However, the overall reduction of the impact sound level investigated in the 125 to 500 Hz shows that the sound absorption characteristics of the receiving room actually affects the result of the heavy-weight impact measurement.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to provide a political registration point for analyzing the economic impacts on the national economy from the REITs distribution industry in our country. The REITs distribution industry was introduced in 2001 to accelerate the corporate restructuring process and advance the real estate market. During its establishment, the REITs distribution industry faced difficulties; however, the industry grew rapidly through interest from institutional investors, thus mitigating the establishment problems by 2006. In Korea, more than 108 REITs were operating as of the end of June 2015. REITs contribute significantly to the national economy. The economic impacts on the national economy of the REITs distribution industry was analyzed using input-output (I-O) analysis with respect to production, imports, value-added, and employment. Research design, data, and methodology - The research used an I-O analysis of the activities of the REITs distribution industry in the national economy. The I-O analysis methodology analyzes the economic effects that influence other industries with respect to one unit of external investment. The data for this analysis were the I-O table of 2013 as published by the Bank of Korea in 2014. Results - The findings of this study are as follows. First, if an external input to the REITs distribution industry is 1 won, the overall impact of the product is 1.3869 won, the import induction is 0.0002 won, and the value-added induction is 0.7656 won. A new investment of 659.9 billion won into the REITs industry was estimated to produce a gross effect of 915.2 billion won. Second, if an external input to the REITs distribution industry is 1 billion won, the employment-inducing effects are estimated at 19.6394 individuals. The employment-inducing coefficient of 19.6394 for the REITs distribution industry indicates that the industry created significant employment-more than other industries-because the coefficient was 2.2 times the 2013 industry average employment-inducing coefficient of 8.8. Third, the investment effects of the REITs distribution industry on production induction, value-added induction, and employment induction are assumed to be large in business support services, financing, communications and broadcasting, and professional, scientific, and technical services. Conclusions - The REITs distribution industry was analyzed as having a strong employment inducing, high value added effect. The REITs distribution industry is an excellent alternative for the government authority to create multilateral jobs. Because the REITs distribution industry has a significant positive impact on the national economy, it should be developed. However, the I-O methodology has restrictions with respect to the fixation and timing of the input coefficient. Follow-up research is expected to supplement the analysis method at a specific point in time.

  • Building wind pressure coefficient transiting test is a new method to test the building wind pressure coefficient by using the wind generated by a moving vehicle, which is susceptible to natural wind and other factors. In this paper, the Commonwealth Advisory Aeronautical Research Council standard model with a scale ratio of 1:300 is used as the test object, and the wind pressure coefficient transiting test is repeated under different natural wind conditions to study the influence of natural wind. Natural wind is measured by an ultrasonic anemometer at a fixed location. All building wind pressure coefficient transiting tests meet the test conditions, and the vehicle's driving speed is 72 km/h. The mean wind pressure coefficient, the fluctuating wind pressure coefficient, and the correlation coefficient of wind pressure are used to describe the influence of natural wind on the building wind pressure coefficient transiting test qualitatively and quantitatively. Some rules, which can also help subsequent transiting tests, are also summarized.

  • Radon is a radioactive gas produced from the uranium-238 series. Radon gas affects public health and is the second cause of lung cancer. The study samples were collected from one area of the city of Jazan, southwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The influence of engineering and physical parameters on the emanation coefficient of gas and other gas parameters was studied. Parameters for radon were measured using a CR-39 Solid-State Nuclear Track Detector (SSNTD) through a sealed emission container. The results showed that the emanation coefficient was affected directly by the change in the grain size of the soil. All parameters of measured radon gas have the same behavior as the emanation coefficient. The relationship between particle size and emanation coefficient showed a good correlation. The values of the emanation coefficient were inversely affected by the mass of the sample, and the rest of the parameters showed an inverse behavior. The results showed that increasing the volume of the container increases the accumulation of radon sons on the wall of the container, which increases the emission factor. The rest of the parameters of radon gas showed an inverse behavior with increasing container size. The results concluded that changing the engineering and physical parameters has a significant impact on both the emanation coefficient and all radon parameters. The emanation coefficient affects the values of the radiation dose of an alpha particle.

  • A numerical analysis was performed on the fluid flow in injector orifice of a liquid rocket engine. The present computational code was verified against the published data for turbulent flow in a pipe with a sudden expansion-contraction. Considered were the parameters for the flow analysis in an injector orifice: Reynolds number, ratio of mass flow rate of the injector orifice and inlet flow rate, and slant angle of the injector orifice. The discharge coefficient increased slightly as the Reynolds number increased. The slant angle of the injector changed critically the discharge coefficient. The discharge coefficient increased by 7% when the slant angle changed from $-30^{\circ}$ to $30^{\circ}$ The ratio of mass flow rate had relatively little impact on the discharge coefficient.

  • This paper presents results from a wind tunnel study that examined the drag coefficient and wind flow over an asymmetric wave train immersed in turbulent boundary layer flow. The modeled wavy surface consisted of eight replicas of a statistically-valid hurricane-generated wave, located near the coast in the shoaling wave region. For an aerodynamically rough model surface, the air flow remained attached and a pronounced speed-up region was evident over the wave crest. A wavelength-averaged drag coefficient was determined using the wind profile method, common to both field and laboratory settings. It was found that the drag coefficient was approximately 50% higher than values obtained in deep water hurricane conditions. This study suggests that nearshore wave drag is markedly higher than over deep water waves of similar size, and provides the groundwork for assessing the impact of nearshore wave conditions on storm surge modeling and coastal wind engineering.

  • The Objective of this work was to design Composite Antenna Structures (CAS) and investigate impact behavior of CAS which was various curvature. This term, CAS, indicates that structural surface becomes antenna. Constituent materials were selected considering electrical properties, dielectric constants and tangent loss as well as mechanical properties. For the antenna performance, microstrip antenna layers inserted into structural layers were designed for satellite communication at the resonant frequency of 12.5 GHz and final demonstration article was. After making five kinds of curved CAS, which radii of curvature are flat, 200, 150, 100, 50 mm. The antenna performance changed in accordance with variation of curvature. The Reflection coefficient was independent of curvature but the gain decreased with the radius of curvature. The impact test equipment was Dyna-8250 drop weight tester. The impact characteristic in accordance with curvature is maximum absorb energy is same each other. The impact energy was 8.5 J. For various Impact energy test, five energy levels 3 J, 5 J, 7 J, 10 J, 20 J were used. The performance of impact damaged antenna was estimated by measuring the return loss and the radiation pattern. It was revealed that the performance of antenna was not related to the impact damage. Because the impactor did not damage the patch directly. CAS have good impact stability for the antenna performance.
