  • This paper analyzes the specialization factors for greenhouse-grown horticultural crops and location quotient. We derived the location quotient of two crops from the Agricultural Census in 2000, 2005, and 2010. The location quotient shows that specialization factors for spinach and lettuce became more concentrated. This means that cultivation of vegetables lean too much towards specialized regions. Implementation policies based on the level of specialization is expected to more efficiently improve the competitiveness of regional agriculture. The logit analysis showed that GRDP, age, education, average employee, and ratio of computer use had a significant impact on specialization of spinach. GRDP, age, and education negatively affected the specialization coefficient of spinach. However, average employee, and ratio of computer use positively affected the specialization coefficient of spinach. Based on these results, we set up the policy tools specializing the regional location quotient.

  • In modern society, crime is one of the major social problems. Crime has a great impact not only on victims but also on those around them. It is important to predict crimes before they occur and to prevent crime. Various studies have been conducted to predict crime. One of the most important factors in predicting crime is frequency of crime occurrence. The frequency of crime is widely used as basic data for predicting crime. However, the frequency of crime occurrence is announced about 2 years after the statistical processing period. In this paper, we propose a frequency analysis of crime - related key words retrieved from the web as a way to indirectly grasp the frequency of crime occurrence. The relationship between the number of frequency of crime occurrence and frequency of actual crime occurrence was analyzed by correlation coefficient.

  • The potential impact of water temperature on air temperature in response to recent anthropogenic global warming has been noticed. To predict climate, induced change in river aquatic environment, it is necessary to understand the thermal constrains of fish species and the timing of the projected river temperature. As a preliminary study, air-water temperature relationship was analyzed on the basis of the observed data during the time period of 2009-2011 and the number of data corresponds to 873-1083. As a result of analyzing the auto-and cross-correlation coefficient between air-water temperature, high correlation is shown (~0.9). It is also found that the correlation coefficient of air temperature is higher than that of water temperature at the lag time less than approximately 10 days. Observed data was divided into two groups to investigate hysteresis: rising limb and falling limb. For some stations there is strong evidence that hysteresis exist between air-water temperature relationships. Consequently it is recommended that seasonal hysteresis needs to be included in determining an airwater relationship.

  • Measurement of quality of life among prostate cancer patients helps the health care providers to understand the impact of the disease in the patients' own perspective. The main aim of this study is to measure the quality of life among prostate cancer patients at University Malaya Medical Center (UMMC) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC) and to ascertain the association factors for physical coefficient summary (PCS) and mental coefficient summary (MCS). A hospital based, cross sectional study using the Short Form-36 (SF-36) questionnaire was conducted over a period of 6 months. A total of 193 respondents were recruited. Their total quality of life score was $70.1{\pm}14.7$ and the PCS score was lower compared to MCS. The factors associated for PCS were: age, living partner, renal problem, urinary problem of intermittency, dysuria and hematuria. Factors associated for MCS were: age, living partner, renal problem, presenting prostatic specific antigen and urinary problem of intermittency and dysuria. Our prostate cancer patients had moderate quality of life in the physical health components but their mental health was less affected.

  • For a successful performance of Carbon Capture Sequestration (CCS) projects, appropriate injection conditions should be designed to be optimized for site specific geological conditions. In this study, we built a simple 2-dimensional analysis model, based on the geology of Jang-gi basin which is one of the potential sites of domestic CCS projects. We evaluated the impact of initial stress conditions and injection rate through coupled TOUGH-FLAC simulator. From the preliminary analysis, we constructed risk scenarios with the higher potential of shear slip and performed scenario analysis. Our analysis showed that normal stress regime produced the highest potential of shear slip and stepwise increasing injection rate scenario resulted in much larger pore pressure build up and consequent higher potential of the shear slip, which was evaluated using a mobilized friction coefficient.

  • In this study, the influence of progressive consolidation from the drainage boundary on the subsequent process of consolidation was investigated. Analytical theory and numerical program f3r consolidation of clayey soil were developed based on finite difference method, in which spatial variation of permeability and volume compressibility were implemented. And model ground with normally consolidated clayey soils and a vertical drain at its center were simulated. Various types of soils with different relations between coefficient of volume compressibility and permeability and void ratio were applied. Also numerical simulations based on the properties of the normally consolidated clay at Nakdong River basin and reconstituted kaolinite soil were performed to recognize its practical impact. Consequently, it is found out that retardation of consolidation induced by progressive consolidation is very important to understand consolidation behavior on field conditions and its effect is remarkable at the initial state of consolidation, and increases with plasticity index and applied load.

  • Objective : To translate Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) into North Korean language and to examine its reliability and validity Methods : North Korean defectors (n=207) recruited from the call center for North Korean defectors participated. Psychiatrists and psychiatric residents interviewed the participants and made the psychiatric diagnoses. Subsequently, the participants completed the CES-D, Impact of Event-Scale-Revised-North Korea (IES-R-NK), Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-North Korea (AUDIT-NK), and Brief Psychological State Inventory for North Korean Refugees (BPSI-NKR) questionnaires. Of the original participants, 143 subjects participated in test-retest reliability study after one week. Results : Cronbach's alpha coefficient of CES-D-NK was superior in both males (0.91) and females (0.93). The test-retest correlation coefficient was high (males, 0.64 ; femals, 0.79). Good convergent validity was evident by significant correlations with IER-R-NK, BPSI-NKR-Depression and BPSI-NKR-PTSD, respectively. CES-D-NK had no or weak correlations with AUDIT-NK and BPSI-NKR-Alcohol, showing its discriminant validity. Conclusion : CES-D-NK could be a reliable and valid tool for screening and assessing depressive symptoms of North Korean defectors.

  • The objective of this study was to assess the livestock nonpoint source pollutant impact on water quality in Namgang dam watershed using the HSPF (Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran) model. The input data for the HSPF model was established using the landcover, digital elevation, and watershed and river maps. In order to apply the pollutant load to the HSPF model, the delivery load of the livestock nonpoint source in the Namgang dam watershed was calculated and used as a point pollutant input data for the HSPF model. The hydrologic and water quality parameters of HSPF model were calibrated and validated using the observed runoff data from 2007 to 2015 at Sancheong station. The R2 (Determination Coefficient), RMSE (Root Mean Square Error), NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient), and RMAE (Relative Mean Absolute Error) were used to evaluate the model performance. The simulation results for annual mean runoff showed that R2 ranged 0.79~0.81, RMSE 1.91~2.73 mm/day, NSE 0.7~0.71 and RMAE 0.37~0.49 mm/day for daily runoff. The simulation results for annual mean BOD for RMSE ranged 0.99~1.13 mg/L and RMAE 0.49~0.55 mg/L, annual mean TN for RMSE ranged 1.65~1.72 mg/L and RMAE 0.55 mg/L, and annual mean TP for RMSE ranged 0.043~0.055 mg/L and RMAE 0.552~0.570 mg/L. As a result of livestock nonpoint pollutant loading simulation for each sub-watersehd using the HSPF model, the BOD ranged 16.6~163 kg/day, TN ranged 27.5~337 kg/day, TP ranged 1.22~14.1 kg/day.

  • Determining the coefficient of weathering(CW) for stone heritage plays very important role in investigation and conservation plan. In most case, CW is obtained from the empirical relation, which use the difference between sonic velocities of fresh and weathered rocks. In this paper, we measured sonic velocities for the samples from Iksan, Geochang, Wonju, Goesan and Chungju of which our stone heritages are made. We first investigate the uncertainty of velocity by portable measurement by comparing it to lab measurement. There were small difference, but we conclude that the difference is not major. However, the velocity of fresh rock differs significantly among samples: ranging from 3200 to 4400m/s. This cause a lot of error in CW estimation if we use typical fresh rock velocity as of 5000m/s. Thus accurate measurement of the velocity of fresh rock is crucial to CW estimation.
