  • In conventional far-field microscopy, two objects separated closer than approximately half of an emission wavelength cannot be resolved, because of the fundamental limitation known as Abbe's diffraction limit. During the last decade, several super-resolution methods have been developed to overcome the diffraction limit in optical imaging. Among them, super-resolution optical fluctuation imaging (SOFI) developed by Dertinger et al [1], employs the statistical analysis of temporal fluorescence fluctuations induced by blinking phenomena in fluorophores. SOFI is a simple and versatile method for super-resolution imaging. However, due to the uncontrollable blinking of fluorophores, there are some limitations to using SOFI for several applications, including the limitations of available blinking fluorophores for SOFI, a requirement of using a high-speed camera, and a low signal-to-noise ratio. To solve these limitations, we present a new approach combining SOFI with speckle pattern illumination to create illumination-induced optical fluctuation instead of blinking fluctuation of fluorophore.. This technique effectively overcome the limitations of the conventional SOFI since illumination-induced optical fluctuation is possible to control unlike blinking phenomena of fluorophore. And we present the sub-diffraction resolution image using SOFI with speckle illumination.

  • Gradient coil offers the spatial informations of sample or patient in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging(NMRI) and its gradient field linearity over the field of view(FOV) has many influence on the MR imaging. Accurate and good quality MR imaging can be acquired by the high gradient field linearity over the FOV. So it is an important part to design of gradient coil with good linearity in the wide imaging range. Usually, Z-directional gradient field is generated by using the Helmholtz type coil which is consisted of one-pair loop with anti-current path. It gets less about 40% linearity of the diameter spherical volume(DSV). In this study, we calculated optimized geometrical parameters of two-pair loop system to cancel odd terms up to $B_7$ included effectively. we also analyzed and compared the gradient field distribution and linearity of the common Helmholtz coil with them of the two-pair loop system.

  • Hyperspectral images are often contaminated with stripe noise, which severely degrades the imaging quality and the precision of the subsequent processing. In this paper, a variational model is proposed by employing spectral-spatial adaptive unidirectional variation and a sparse representation. Unlike traditional methods, we exploit the spectral correction and remove stripes in different bands and different regions adaptively, instead of selecting parameters band by band. The regularization strength adapts to the spectrally varying stripe intensities and the spatially varying texture information. Spectral correlation is exploited via dictionary learning in the sparse representation framework to prevent spectral distortion. Moreover, the minimization problem, which contains two unsmooth and inseparable $l_1$-norm terms, is optimized by the split Bregman approach. Experimental results, on datasets from several imaging systems, demonstrate that the proposed method can remove stripe noise effectively and adaptively, as well as preserve original detail information.

  • We have studied elemental image compatibility between integral imaging(II) and parallax generation(PG) system for three-dimensional display. The elemental images of PG can be obtained by recombination of the elemental images picked up in II system. The theoretical verification and the experimental results show that the elemental images of PG are in correspondence with the elemental images of II system with proper transformation conditions.

  • Sensitivity and specificity are the two most important indicators in selection of medical imaging devices for cancer screening. Breast images taken by conventional or digital mammography, ultrasound, MRI and optical mammography were collected from 2,143,852 patients. They were then studied and compared for sensitivity and specificity results. Optical mammography had the highest sensitivity (p<0.001 and p<0.006) except with MRI. Digital mammography had the highest specificity for breast cancer imaging. A comparison of specificity between digital mammography and optical mammography was significant (p<0.021). If two or more breast diagnostic imaging tests are requested the overall sensitivity and specificity will increase. In this literature review study patients at high-risk of breast cancer were studied beside normal or sensitive women. The image modality performance of each breast test was compared for each.

  • Virtual Reality simulation enables immersive 3D experience of a Virtual Environment. A simulation-based VE can be used to map real world phenomena into virtual experience. This research studies on the use of Newton's physics law to demonstrate the effects of forces upon object's falling movement, and their effects towards other fallible objects. A reconfigurable simulation enables users to reconfigure the parameters of the objects involved in the simulation, so that they can see different effects from the different configurations, such as force magnitude and distance between objects. This concept is suitable for a classroom learning of physics law. Preliminary implementation is done on a PC with a joystick for 4DOF movement. The graphics is implemented by SGI OpenGL Performer. A middleware called NAVERLib that consists of Performer's modules for easy XML-based configuration is used for management of visualization, network and devices connection, and where the engine of this domino simulation is attached.
