This study was undertaken evaluate the general image for dental hygienist. A questionnaire was given to each Dentist, the staff of dental. 65 Dentist, 145 the staff of dental were included in the subjects between Jul. 1 and Oct. 30, 2008. The collected data was analysed by the SPSS Win 12.0/PC using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square, t-test, ANOVA. The image for the dental hygienist was analyzed by 28 items. As a result of analysis on image of dental hygienist, The Dentist's group and staff's group, both appreciated positive image that explain process of treatment to patient very well, having professional knowledge and experienced skill, carries on an effective and valuable work. give a confidenced to patient. These group also gave negative image in the aspect that the dental hygienist is stressful job, handmaid of Dentist, participate of decided something for dental clinic, having association activities. It is necessary for dental hygienist by oneself development ability through science congress variety major and acquirement new technology, exchange information, interchange activities, and association of dental hygienist should efforts for growing up image through mass media.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine what image dental hygiene students had about a dental hygienist during clinical practice and what factors affected their image of dental hygienist. Methods : The subjects in this study were the dental hygiene students at three different colleges. After a survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 427 respondents were analyzed. Results : The dental hygiene students who had engaged in clinical practice had a higher self-esteem than those who hadn't in general(p<0.01). A statistically significantly stronger achievement motivation was found among the dental hygiene students who had engaged in clinical practice than those who hadn't(p<0.01). The dental hygiene students who had engaged in clinical practice had a statistically significantly worse image of a dental hygienist than the others who hadn't(p<0.01). Whether the self-efficacy, self-esteem and achievement motivation of the dental hygiene students had any impact on their image of a dental hygienist was analyzed in consideration of their clinical practice experience. As a result, the dental hygiene students who had engaged in clinical practice had a more positive image of a dental hygienist when they had a higher self-esteem(p<0.05) and a stronger achievement motivation(p<0.001), and those who hadn't engaged in clinical practice had a more positive image of a dental hygienist when they had a higher self-esteem(p<0.01). Conclusions : Given the above-mentioned findings, a wide variety of programs should be developed to bolster the self-esteem and achievement motivation of students and improve their image of a dental hygienist, as self-esteem and achievement motivation are the variables that exert the largest influence on one's image of a dental hygienist.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine dental hygiene students' image of dental hygienist and factors affecting the image of dental hygienist in an effort to provide some information useful for dental hygiene education. It's basically meant to recreate the image of dental hygienist as a professional. Methods : The subjects in this study were 310 sophomores and seniors who ere selected by convenience sampling from three different three-year-course colleges located in Gyeonggi Province, Chungcheong Province and Gwangju. After a survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 277 respondents were analyzed except for 33 incomplete ones. The collected data were analyzed with a SPSSWIN 17.0 program, and statistical data on frequency and percentage were obtained to find out the general characteristics of the subjects, and another statistical data on mean and standard deviation for each item were acquired to check their image of dental hygienist. Besides, t-test, ANOVA and Kruscal-Wallis test, one of nonparametric test, were utilized to look for connections between their general characteristics and image of dental hygienist. Results : 1. They gave a mean of 3.53 to the image of dental hygienist, which showed that the dental hygiene students took a favorable view of dental hygienists in general. 2. Their response to four items showed that they looked at the image of dental hygienist in a positive manner. The four items respectively described dental hygienists as professionals, as ones who played a crucial role in the improvement of national oral health, as ones with professional knowledge and sophisticated knowhow, and as neat and decent people. And their response to the following five items indicated that they looked at the image of dental hygienists in a negative way. One was that dental hygienists were considered to be dental nurses, and another was that the occupation of dental hygienist was a demanding and stressful job. The third was that there was no single, fixed title to call dental hygienists, and the fourth was that dental hygiene wasn't recognized as an independent area. The fifth was that the social standing of dental hygienists was sort of high. 3. In regard to the impact of the general characteristics of the dental hygiene students on their image of dental hygienist, they had a more favorable image of dental hygienist when they perceived dental hygiene in a more positive manner(p<0.001). Conclusions : In order to boost the image of dental hygienist, the working conditions of dental hygienists should be improved, and educational programs should be prepared to provided them extended continuing educational opportunities. And the kind of educational environments that could nurture dental hygienists who are convinced and have a vision should be created.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate self-efficacy, self-image, and image as a dental hygienist of the dental hygiene student. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 479 dental hygiene students in Daegu and Gyeongnam from November 5 to 25, 2014. The questionnaire consisted of self-efficacy(18 items), self-image(23 items), and image as a dental hygienist(36 items) by Likert 5 points scale. Data were analyzed by t test, ANOVA, regression analysis, and post hoc Tukey test using SPSS 20.0 program. Results: The self-efficacy of the first, second, and third grade was 2.72, 2.71, and 2.60, respectively(p<0.002). Those living with family tended to have higher mark than those living without family(p<0.001). The influence of self-efficacy on self image and image as a dental hygienist was positively correlated(p<0.001). Conclusions: The right self-image and self-efficacy of the dental hygiene students can be a powerful influence on the image as a dental hygienist. It is necessary to develop and implement the ethics education for the dental hygiene students.
The purpose of this study was to examine the perception of health-related majors in their third year of college about the image of a dental hygienist as prospective dental personnels. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. Concerning perception of the image of a dental hygienist by geographic region, the college students from large cities gave 89.07 to that, and the college students from small and mid-sized urban areas gave 85.03. The former gave higher marks to the image of a dental hygienist, and the gap between the two was statistically significant. By department, the students who majored in physical therapy gave the highest score of 88.93, dental technology and radiology gave the second highest score of 86.91. The clinical pathology gave the third highest score of 83.28, and the gaps among them were significant. 2. As for their perception of the four subfactors(qualifications, roles, social participation and interpersonal relationship) of the image of a dental hygienist by geographic region, there were statistically significant gaps in their way of looking at the qualifications, roles and interpersonal relationship of a dental hygienist. By department, the physical therapy majors gave the highest marks to all the four subfactors. 3. When they were asked to give one or more answers to the question what affected their image building about a dental hygienist, the largest number of the students that accounted for 67.9 percent replied that the looks of dental hygienists whom they saw in dental clinics or hospitals impacted on their image of a dental hygienist.
Objectives: This study investigates dropout intention and the structural relationship between the dental hygienist role and satisfaction with the study major perceived by dental hygiene students. Methods: A survey was conducted on 269 dental hygiene students. The survey items covered general characteristics, department choice motivation, the desirability of dental hygienist career, practice clinical experience, perception of dental hygienist role, satisfaction with study major, and dropout intention. Independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test, multiple linear regression analysis, and structural equation modeling were used for statistical analysis. Results: The dropout intention level of dental hygiene students was 2.4 out of 5.0. Satisfaction with study major partially mediates perception of dental hygienist role and dropout intention (direct effect=0.182, p=0.024, indirect effect=-0.437, p=0.010). Perception of dental hygienist role (β=-0.255, p=0.010) and satisfaction with study major (β=-0.661, p=0.010) showed a negative relationship with dropout intention. The factor most affecting dropout intention was satisfaction with study major. Dropout intention was high when selecting a major based on external motivations (β=-0.448, p<0.001). Conclusions: Perception of dental hygienist role and satisfaction with study major directly or indirectly affect dropout intention. Therefore, improving satisfaction with study major and improving the perception of dental hygienists will help reduce dropout intention.

The purpose of this study was to understand how a dental hygienist is viewed by students in terms of both image and job /employment perception using structural equations. This together with the incorporation of available online information would help in collating the necessary data for ensuring adequate manpower of dental hygienists' in the future. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics 24.0 and AMOS Graphics 21.0 statistics packages. It was found that students who perceive employment positively have a positive image of a dental hygienist even if a new infectious disease were to occur. They appreciate that a negative image of a dental hygienist's job during an epidemic could cause a negative perception of employment as a dental hygienist. Those who think negatively of the internet as a source of information believe that the internet has a lot of false information, is harmful, promotes anxiety, and has been shown to promote negative perceptions about employment as a dental hygienist. Those who think positively of internet information think that dental hygienists are susceptible to infection and can transmit infection, which has been shown to negatively affect their perception of employment. In conclusion, it is important to form an image of a dental hygienist through the recognition of the correct internet information in the period of new infectious diseases.
Objectives: To provide basic information for improving the professional image of the dental hygienist among adults who visit the dentist. Methods: From December 5, 2018 to January 25, 2019, 214 adults in Seoul or Gyeonggi filled out a Google online questionnaire. Data were analyzed using t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and multiple regression analysis. Results: The overall average score of the professional image of dental hygienists was 3.59. In addition, there were significant differences in the image according to age, education, and occupation. The image according to the dental visit experience was highest for those providing orthodontic treatment. The difference in professional image recognized by the dental hygienists and the patients was highest in the case of those dental hygienists responding that they had been educated at a four-year university, who were considered as medical practitioners, and were called a dental hygienist. Lastly, the factors related to the professional image of the dental hygienist were positively affected in the case of preventive purpose of visit, and graduate or higher education of the patients. Conclusions: In order to establish the professional image of dental hygienists, public relations for adequate occupational awareness of their work should be continued. Additionally, it is necessary to establish the role through the systematic expansion of the professional image and their being considered as medical professionals, reflecting the reality of the work field.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to devise a way of the dental hygienist to explore the articles of dental hygienist that were presented in the newspaper during the recent 3 years of Korea. Methods : This study is to examine dental hygienist articles with content analysis in the KINDS(Korean Integrated News Database System) of the Korean Press Foundation. Data were gathered from the printed newspaper of Korea over a period of 3 years - 1 March, 2005 to 30 March 2008. News reports, comments and letters to the editor were analysed, which revealed an image of dental hygienist that we would like to explore and debate. The obtained data from the frequency, percentage, chi-squared test between categories after inter-coder reliability test (reliability 0.96). Results : The articles of dental hygienist according to type of newspaper, 'local newspaper' showed higher frequency than 'metropolitan newspaper'. It mix '치과위생사'(42.3%), '치위생사'(49.4%), and '위생사'(3.9%) in use of name. The article pattern, 'news' 40.0%, 'information commentary' 18.3%, 'interview man' 15.8%, 'special news' 14.2% in metropolitan newspaper, then, 'news' 72.6%, 'information commentary' 23.2% in local newspaper (p<0.05). Most plenty of subject is 'administration system', and then 'celebration', 'publicity'. It showed 'seoul' was 'information commentary', 'country' was 'administration system', 'whole' was 'legal duty', 'unrelated area' was 'social living' in the topic of article according to newsbeat(p<0.05). Conclusions : These results suggest that it is necessary to publicity name, duty of dental hygienist in metropolitan newspaper officially.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the perception of dental hygienists and look for ways to inform the dental hygienist correctly by investigating factors influencing the perception of dentalhygienists. Methods: The final analysis population for this study was composed of 302 adults aged 20 years or older who were living in Seoul or Gyeonggi-do. Statistical analysis of the collected data was conducted using the SPSS WIN 22.0 statistical program. Results: When factors influencing perceptions of dental hygienists were investigated, educational background beyond high school (p<0.05), educational background beyond college (p<0.001), occupation (student, p<0.05), title (dental hygienist, p<0.01), and whether dental hygienists offered comfort during treatment (yes, p<0.001) were found to exert statistically significant influence. In other words, participants with educational background beyond high school and college, student, participants who call the title dental hygienists, and participants who felt comforted by dental hygienists during treatment had better perceptions of dental hygienists. Conclusions: Based upon the results as mentioned above, It will be needed more training to enhance the skills of a dental hygienist patient response. Also participants who felt comforted by dental hygienists during treatment had better perceptions of dental hygienists. This indicates a need to devise ways to better foster the ability of dental hygienists.
