In this paper, the recirculation flow motion and mixing characteristics driven by air bubble stream in a rectangular water tank is studied. The time-resolved PIV technique is adopted for the quantitative visualization and analysis. 488 nm Ar-ion CW laser is used for illumination and orange fluorescent ($\lambda_{ex}=540nm,\;\lambda_{em}=560nm$) particle images are acquired by a PCO 10bit high-speed CCD camera (1280$\times$1024). To obtain clean particle images, 545 nm long pass optical filter and an image intensifier are employed and the flow rates of compressed air is 3 l/min at 0.5 MPa. The recirculation and mixing flow field is further investigated by time-resolved POD analysis technique. It is observed that the large scale recirculation resulting from the interaction between rising bubble stream and side wall is the most dominant flow structure and there are small scale vortex structures moving along with large scale recirculation flow. It is also verified that the sum of 20 modes of velocity field has about 67.4% of total turbulent energy.
To explore the annealing temperature dependence of dielectric properties $Ta_2$$O_{5}$ thin films were prepared by MOCVD(metal-organic chemical vapor deposition) and MOD(metal-organic decomposition). The $Ta_2$$O_{5}$thin films fabricated MOCVD and MOD were annealed in $O_2$at temperature between 600 and 90$0^{\circ}C$. The measured dielectric constant of both films at 100 KHz was the highest value at $650^{\circ}C$ and decreased with increasing annealing temperature above $650^{\circ}C$. Plane-view SEM image showed that the boundary seems to be crack broke out with increasing annealing temperature. It was confirmed that outbreak of boundary influenced a decrease of dielectric constant with increasing annealing temperature. The leakage current density increased with increasing annealing temperature.
Since epileptic seizure is unpredictable and paroxysmal, an automatic system for seizure detecting could be of great significance and assistance to patients and medical staff. In this paper, a novel method is proposed for multichannel patient-specific seizure detection applying the earth mover's distance (EMD) in scalp EEG. Firstly, the wavelet decomposition is executed to the original EEGs with five scales, the scale 3, 4 and 5 are selected and transformed into histograms and afterwards the distances between histograms in pairs are computed applying the earth mover's distance as effective features. Then, the EMD features are sent to the classifier based on the Bayesian linear discriminant analysis (BLDA) for classification, and an efficient postprocessing procedure is applied to improve the detection system precision, finally. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, the CHB-MIT scalp EEG database with 958 h EEG recordings from 23 epileptic patients is used and a relatively satisfactory detection rate is achieved with the average sensitivity of 95.65% and false detection rate of 0.68/h. The good performance of this algorithm indicates the potential application for seizure monitoring in clinical practice.
Undesirable flapping motion of discs can cause the failure of swing check valves in nuclear passive safety systems. Time-resolved particle image velocimetry (PIV) was employed to investigate the flow characteristics around a free-to-rotate plate and the motion response, with the Reynolds numbers, based on the hydraulic diameter of the channel, from 1.32 × 104 to 3.95 × 104. Appreciable flapping motion (±3.52°) appeared at the Reynolds number of 2.6 × 104 with the frequency of 5.08 Hz. In the low-Reynolds-number case, the plate showed negligible flapping. In the high-Reynolds-number case, the deflection angle increased with reduced flapping amplitude. The torque from the fluid determined the flapping amplitude. In the low-Reynolds-number case, Karman vortices were absent. With increasing Reynolds numbers, Karman vortices developed behind the plate with larger deflection angles. Strong interaction between the wake flow from the leading and trailing edge of the plate was observed. Based on power spectrum density (PSD) analysis, the vortex shedding frequency coincided with the flapping frequency, and the amplitude was positively correlated to the strength of the vortices. Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) modes evince that, in the case of appreciable motion, coherent structures exhibited a larger spatial scale, enhancing the magnitude of the external torque on the plate.
Existing Gamma Knife Radiosurgery(GKRS) for large lesions is often conducted in stages with volume or dose partitions. Often in case of volume division the target used to be divided into sub-volumes which are irradiated under the determined prescription dose in multi-sessions separated by a day or two, 3~6 months. For the entire course of treatment, treatment informations of the previous stages needs to be reflected to subsequent sessions on the newly mounted stereotactic frame through coordinate transformation between sessions. However, it is practically difficult to implement the previous dose distributions with existing Gamma Knife system except in the same stereotactic space. The treatment area is expanding because it is possible to perform the multistage treatment using the latest Gamma Knife Platform(GKP). The purpose of this study is to introduce the image-coregistration based on the stereotactic spaces and the strategy of multistage GKRS such as the determination of prescription dose at each stage using new GKP. Usually in image-coregistration either surgically-embedded fiducials or internal anatomical landmarks are used to determine the transformation relationship. Author compared the accuracy of coordinate transformation between multi-sessions using four or six anatomical landmarks as an example using internal anatomical landmarks. Transformation matrix between two stereotactic spaces was determined using PseudoInverse or Singular Value Decomposition to minimize the discrepancy between measured and calculated coordinates. To evaluate the transformation accuracy, the difference between measured and transformed coordinates, i.e., ${\Delta}r$, was calculated using 10 landmarks. Four or six points among 10 landmarks were used to determine the coordinate transformation, and the rest were used to evaluate the approaching method. Each of the values of ${\Delta}r$ in two approaching methods ranged from 0.6 mm to 2.4 mm, from 0.17 mm to 0.57 mm. In addition, a method of determining the prescription dose to give the same effect as the treatment of the total lesion once in case of lesion splitting was suggested. The strategy of multistage treatment in the same stereotactic space is to design the treatment for the whole lesion first, and the whole treatment design shots are divided into shots of each stage treatment to construct shots of each stage and determine the appropriate prescription dose at each stage. In conclusion, author confirmed the accuracy of prescribing dose determination as a multistage treatment strategy and found that using as many internal landmarks as possible than using small landmarks to determine coordinate transformation between multi-sessions yielded better results. In the future, the proposed multistage treatment strategy will be a great contributor to the frameless fractionated treatment of several Gamma Knife Centers.
With the development of sensor and satellite technology, numerous high-resolution and multi-spectral satellite images have been available. Due to their wavelength-dependent reflection, transmission, and scattering characteristics, multi-spectral satellite images can provide complementary information for earth observation. In particular, the short-wave infrared (SWIR) band can penetrate certain types of atmospheric aerosols from the benefit of the reduced Rayleigh scattering effect, which allows for a clearer view and more detailed information to be captured from hazed surfaces compared to the visible band. In this study, we proposed a multi-resolution transform-based image fusion method to combine visible and SWIR satellite images. The purpose of the fusion method is to generate a single integrated image that incorporates complementary information such as detailed background information from the visible band and land cover information in the haze region from the SWIR band. For this purpose, this study applied the Laplacian pyramid-based multi-resolution transform method, which is a representative image decomposition approach for image fusion. Additionally, we modified the multiresolution fusion method by combining a haze-guided weight map based on the prior knowledge that SWIR bands contain more information in pixels from the haze region. The proposed method was validated using very high-resolution satellite images from Worldview-3, containing multi-spectral visible and SWIR bands. The experimental data including hazed areas with limited visibility caused by smoke from wildfires was utilized to validate the penetration properties of the proposed fusion method. Both quantitative and visual evaluations were conducted using image quality assessment indices. The results showed that the bright features from the SWIR bands in the hazed areas were successfully fused into the integrated feature maps without any loss of detailed information from the visible bands.

In this paper, we present a universal steganalysis scheme. The proposed method extract features of two types. First feature set is extracted from histogram characteristic of the wavelet subbands. Second feature set is determined by statistical moments of wavelet characteristic functions. 3-level wavelet decomposition is performed for stego image and cover image using the Haar wavelet basis. We extract one features from 9 high frequency subbands of 12 subbands. The number of second features is 39. We use total 48 features for steganalysis. Multi layer perceptron(MLP) is applied as classifier to distinguish between cover images and stego images. To evaluate the proposed steganalysis method, we use the CorelDraw image database. We test the performance of our proposed steganalysis method over LSB method, spread spectrum data hiding method, blind spread spectrum data hiding method and F5 data hiding method. The proposed method outperforms the previous methods in sensitivity, specificity, error rate and area under ROC curve, etc.

We propose a progressive image retrieval method based on an efficient combination of multiresolution color and torture features in wavelet transform domain. As a color feature, color autocorrelogram of the hue and saturation components is chosen. As texture features, BDIP and BVLC moments of the value component are chosen. For the selected features, we obtain multiresolution feature vectors which are extracted from all decomposition levels in wavelet domain. The multiresolution feature vectors of the color and texture features are efficiently combined by the normalization depending on their dimensions and standard deviation vector, respectively, vector components of the features are efficiently quantized in consideration of their storage space, and computational complexity in similarity computation is reduced by using progressive retrieval strategy. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields average $15\%$ better performance in precision vs. recall and average 0.2 in ANMRR than the methods using color histogram color autocorrelogram SCD, CSD, wavelet moments, EHD, BDIP and BVLC moments, and combination of color histogram and wavelet moments, respectively. Specially, the proposed method shows an excellent performance over the other methods in image DBs contained images of various resolutions.
This paper makes an effort to compare the recently evolved soft classification method based on Linear Spectral Mixture Modeling (LSMM) with the traditional hard classification methods based on Iterative Self-Organizing Data Analysis (ISODATA) and Maximum Likelihood Classification (MLC) algorithms in order to achieve appropriate results for mapping, monitoring and preserving valuable coastal wetland ecosystems of southern India using Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS) 1C/1D LISS-III and Landsat-5 Thematic Mapper image data. ISODATA and MLC methods were attempted on these satellite image data to produce maps of 5, 10, 15 and 20 wetland classes for each of three contrast coastal wetland sites, Pitchavaram, Vedaranniyam and Rameswaram. The accuracy of the derived classes was assessed with the simplest descriptive statistic technique called overall accuracy and a discrete multivariate technique called KAPPA accuracy. ISODATA classification resulted in maps with poor accuracy compared to MLC classification that produced maps with improved accuracy. However, there was a systematic decrease in overall accuracy and KAPPA accuracy, when more number of classes was derived from IRS-1C/1D and Landsat-5 TM imagery by ISODATA and MLC. There were two principal factors for the decreased classification accuracy, namely spectral overlapping/confusion and inadequate spatial resolution of the sensors. Compared to the former, the limited instantaneous field of view (IFOV) of these sensors caused occurrence of number of mixture pixels (mixels) in the image and its effect on the classification process was a major problem to deriving accurate wetland cover types, in spite of the increasing spatial resolution of new generation Earth Observation Sensors (EOS). In order to improve the classification accuracy, a soft classification method based on Linear Spectral Mixture Modeling (LSMM) was described to calculate the spectral mixture and classify IRS-1C/1D LISS-III and Landsat-5 TM Imagery. This method considered number of reflectance end-members that form the scene spectra, followed by the determination of their nature and finally the decomposition of the spectra into their endmembers. To evaluate the LSMM areal estimates, resulted fractional end-members were compared with normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), ground truth data, as well as those estimates derived from the traditional hard classifier (MLC). The findings revealed that NDVI values and vegetation fractions were positively correlated ($r^2$= 0.96, 0.95 and 0.92 for Rameswaram, Vedaranniyam and Pitchavaram respectively) and NDVI and soil fraction values were negatively correlated ($r^2$ =0.53, 0.39 and 0.13), indicating the reliability of the sub-pixel classification. Comparing with ground truth data, the precision of LSMM for deriving moisture fraction was 92% and 96% for soil fraction. The LSMM in general would seem well suited to locating small wetland habitats which occurred as sub-pixel inclusions, and to representing continuous gradations between different habitat types.

This paper proposes the color decomposition method for multi-primary display (MPD) using a 3-dimensional look-up-table (3D-LUT) in a linearized LAB space. The proposed method decomposes conventional three-primary colors into the multi-primary control values of a display device under constraints of tristimulus match. To reproduce images on the MPD, the color signals should be estimated from a device-independent color space, such as CIEXYZ and CIELAB. In this paper, the linearized LAB space is used due to its linearity and additivity in color conversion. The proposed method constructs the 3-D LUT, which contain gamut boundary information to calculate color signals of the MPD. For the image reproduction, standard RGB or CIEXYZ is transformed to the linearized LAB and then hue and chroma are computed to refer to the 3D-LUT. In the linearlized LAB space, the color signals of a gamut boundary point with the same lightness and hue of an input point are calculated. Also, color signals of a point on gray axis are calculated with the same lightness of an input. With gamut boundary points and input point, color signals of the input points are obtained with the chroma ratio divided by the chroma of the gamut boundary point. Specially, for the hue change, neighboring boundary points are employed. As a result the proposed method guarantees the continuity of color signals and computational efficiency, and requires less amount of memory.
