Hardware Implementation of a Multi-Function Image Processing System (다기능 영상처리 시스템의 하드웨어 구현)

  • Generally, general-purpose image processing system is so expensive that not so many users easily can access the system. In this paper attemps have been made to design and describe a general and economical image processing system for real-time aplications such as image data compression, pattern recognition and target tracking. The system comprises an operator console, image data acquisition/display sistem and IBM PC/XT. The system also utilizes a high speed Fairchild 16-bit microprocessor with ALU speed of 375 nsec for system control, algrithm execution and user computation. The system also can digitize /display a 256x 256x 8 bit image in real time and store two frames of images. All image pixels are directly accessible by the microprocessor for fast and efficient computation. Some experimental and illustrative results such as target tracking are presented to show the efficient performance of the system.

  • COMS Image Data Acquisition and Control System (IDACS) plays a key role in real time ground processing of Meteorological and Ocean observation data. Beyond processing, it serves processed image data and additional data to end users through the spacecraft in the internationally recommended format. The IDACS will be installed at three location (MSC, KOSC, and SOC) and automatically operated 24h/365days. After the IDACS subsystem tests and inter -subsystem interface tests had been completed in the first half of 2008, the acceptance test which was a comprehensive test performed as an integrated form to verify function performance and operational requirements. This paper introduces test objective, preparation, and major result of the COMS IDACS acceptance test.

  • In this paper, we analyze the delay phenomenon that can occur when controlling an unmanned aerial vehicle using a camera and describe a solution to solve the phenomenon. The group of pictures (GOP) value is changed in order to reduce the delay according to the frame data size that can occur in the moving image data transmission. The appropriate GOP values were determined through experimental data accumulation and validated through camera self-test, system integration laboratory (SIL) verification test and system integration test.

  • In this research, an Electronic White Board Control System is developed that stores and prints the data written on the white board. This control system is constructed using an embedded single board PC, whose function is the acquisition(from CCD image sensor system), processing and storing of the data on the screen. The properties of this system are as follows: 1. The system is able to move the screen on the right and left. 2. The system is able to output the data written on the screen to a connected printer. 3.   • A data acquisition (DAQ) system based on oscilloscope was developed and evaluated for radiation detector. The dedicated LabVIEW program that perform the oscilloscope control and the data process was developed. Triggered events for each analog channel were acquired and the output signals were subsequently digitized and recorded for offline processing. Radiation pulse generation circuit was developed to evaluate the intrinsic characteristics of DAQ system. Energy linearity and energy resolution performances were assessed by voltage-peak channels and FWHM obtained from Gaussian fit, respectively. Radiation detector consists of LYSO and GAPD array. The 16 output signals were multiplexed by the RCD networks, and they were fed into the custom-made preamplifiers. Voltage-peak channels was linearly changed as a function of input voltage and the estimated coefficient of determination ($R^2$) was 0.999. No considerable changes in voltage resolution were observed. All 16 crystals were clearly identifiable on the resulting flood image and the mean energy resolution was ~15.1%. This study demonstrated that it is feasible to develop the DAQ system based on oscilloscope and LabVIEW program for radiation detector and the proposed approach offers opportunities to build simple DAQ system in various radiation measurement field.

Speeding up the KLT Tracker for Real-time Image Georeferencing using GPS/INS Data

  • A real-time image georeferencing system requires all inputs to be determined in real-time. The intrinsic camera parameters can be identified in advance from a camera calibration process while other control information can be derived instantaneously from real-time GPS/INS data. The bottleneck process is tie point acquisition since manual operations will be definitely obstacles for real-time system while the existing extraction methods are not fast enough. In this paper, we present a fast-and-automated image matching technique based on the KLT tracker to obtain a set of tie-points in real-time. The proposed work accelerates the KLT tracker by supplying the initial guessed tie-points computed using the GPS/INS data. Originally, the KLT only works effectively when the displacement between tie-points is small. To drive an automated solution, this paper suggests an appropriate number of depth levels for multi-resolution tracking under large displacement using the knowledge of uncertainties the GPS/INS data measurements. The experimental results show that our suggested depth levels is promising and the proposed work can obtain tie-points faster than the ordinary KLT by 13% with no less accuracy. This promising result suggests that our proposed algorithm can be effectively integrated into the real-time image georeferencing for further developing a real-time surveillance application.

A Mask-based Gaussian Noise Removal Algorithm in Spatial Space

  • According to the development and wide use of broad band internet etc., diverse application technologies using large capacity data such as images have been progressed and in these systems, for accurate acquisition and precise applications of an original signal, the degradation phenomenon generated in the transmission process etc. should be removed. Noises have become known as the main cause of the degradation phenomenon and especially Gaussian noise represents characteristics occurring dependently in image signals and degrades detail information such as edge. In this paper, we removed Gaussian noise using a subdivided nonlinear function according to a threshold value and analyzed the histogram acquired from an edge image to establish a threshold value adaptively, and strengthened detail information of image by using the postprocessing. In simulation results, the proposed method represented excellent performance from comparison of MSE with existing methods.

  • KARI is developing Image Data Acquisition and Control System (IDACS) for pre-processing meteorological and ocean data acquired on geostationary orbit. This paper describes the functions and architecture of IDACS and gives its operation policy including backup operation to overcome limitation of single-configured antenna system. The COMS IDACS provides the capability to receive the raw sensor data and disseminate processed MI data to users via a satellite. From the processed image data, users can produce a set of meteorological and ocean products for a wide range of applications. Most of IDACS subsystems are being developed by Korean technologies and experience acquired from previous projects. In case of COMS geometric correction software module, as it is closely dependent on the characteristics of imagers and spacecraft bus system, it is being co-developed with overseas prime contractor who develops spacecraft bus system.

  • Magnetic Resonance Image represents three-dimensional diagnostic imaging technique using both nuclear magnetic resonance phenomenon and computer. Compared with computed tomography (CT), MRI have advantages harmless to patient's body, three-dimensional image with high resolution and disadvantages long data acquisition time because of long T1 relaxation time, relatively low signal to noise ratio, high cost of setting, also. As physiologic motion of tissue results in motion ghost in MRI, high 2.0Tesla make improve low signal to noise ratio. This study have aim to improve image quality with controling motion ghost of tissue. Supposing a moving pixel in constant frequency, one pixel make two ghosts which are same size and different anti-phase. So, this study will show adjust parameter on locational control of motion ghost. Author made moving phantom replaced by respiratory movement of human, researched change of motion frequency, FOV by location shift, and them decided optimal FOV (field of view). The results are as follows: 1. The frequency content of the motion determines how far the image always appear in phase-encoding direction, the morphology of the ghost image is characteristic of the direction of the motion and its amplitude. 2. Double FOV of fixed signal object for locational control of motion ghost is recommended. Decreasement of spatial resolution by increasing FOV can compensate on increasing of matrix in spite of scan time increasement.

  • Accurate acquisition of surface geometries such as machined surfaces, biological surfaces, and deformed parts have been very important technique in scientific study and engineering, expecially for system design, manufacturing and inspection. Two camera method keeps accuracy more than double than mechanical method. In this paper, we describe the processes surface data of teeth for automatic processing, transformation that changes to coping data of possible numeric data form, and processed inlay teeth. As the result of the Inlay manufacture, which can process with high resolution, therefore we construct the automatic processing system that depends on manual.
