Integrity Evaluation of Ice Plugged Pipes Applied on Short Jacket

  • In special industrial fields such 3s nuclear power plants and chemical plants, it is often necessary to repair system components without plant shutdown or drainage of system having many piping structures which may have hazardous or expensive fluid. A temporary ice plugging method for blocking internal flow is considered as a useful method in that case. According to the pipe freezing guideline of the nuclear power plant, the length of a freezing jacket must be longer than twice of the pipe diameter. However, for applying the ice plugging to short pipes which do not have enough freezing length because of geometrical configuration, it is inevitable to use shorter jacket less than twice of the pipe diameter. In this study, the integrity evaluation for short pipes in the nuclear power plant Is conducted by an experiment and the finite element analysis. From the results, the ice plugging process in short pipes can be safely carried out without any plastic deformation and fracture.

국내 제조공장에서 생산된 아이스크림류의 미생물학적 오염실태 조사 (Monitoring on Microbiological Contamination of Packed Ice Creams from Manufacturing Factories in Korea)

  • 본 연구에서 여름철 성수기를 앞두고 생산된 아이스크림류에 대하여 대장균군과 E. coli O157:H7, S. aureus, C. perfringens, L. monocytogenes, Salmonella spp. 등 식중독균 검출여부를 조사한 결과 모든 제품에서 검출되지 않았다. 이에 반하여 세균수에 있어서는 11개 제조공장별로, 그리고 아이스크림류 유형별로 $2.5{\times}10^3$에서부터 $5.5{\times}10^5cfu/g$까지 다양한 수준을 나타내었다. 또한, OEM 생산업체에서 제조된 아이스크림을 포함하여 아이스크림 제품별로는 과자류, 찰떡, 초코렛, 과일쥬스 등의 부원료가 추가적으로 사용되거나, 손작업이 필요로 하는 stic bar type 등 7개 제품에서 세균수 허용기준이 초과된 것으로 나타났다. 세균수 허용기준을 초과한 제품에 대하여 아이스크림류 유형별로 분석한 바, 아이스크림은 10개중 3개 제품(30.0%), 아이스밀크는 6개중 3개 제품(50.0%), 샤베트는 2개중 1개 제품(50.0%)으로 조사되어 약간의 차이가 있었다. 아이스크림류 제조공정 중 미생물의 품질관리를 위하여 포장용기에 대한 미생물 모니터링 검사를 포함하여 동결 공정에 추가적인 CCP 설정 등과 같은 HACCP제도의 도입 및 보완을 고려해 보아야 할 것으로 생각된다.

  • 추운 기후에서 운영되는 풍력터빈 시스템의 표면에 발생한 결빙으로 인하여 공기역학적 성능이 크게 저하될 수 있다. 이러한 결빙은 양력감소 및 항력증가를 야기하고, 발전효율에 부정적인 영향을 미치게 된다. 이로 인하여 풍력발전기의 성능저하 또는 과부하, 무게중심의 변화에 따른 과도진동, 결빙파편이 지상으로 떨어질 경우의 안전성 문제, 계기의 결빙으로 인한 계기 측정오차, 최악의 경우 풍력 시스템 정지 등의 문제가 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 결빙증식이 풍력 발전기의 공력특성에 미치는 영향을 CFD 기법을 이용해 분석하였다. 또한 결빙증식 결과를 바탕으로 BEM 기법을 적용시켜 삼차원 블레이드에 대한 공력성능을 계산하였다. 결빙의 두께는 상대적인 속도차이에 의해 블레이드 중심에서 끝단으로 갈수록 증가함을 알 수 있었고, 공기의 속도가 결빙증식에 미치는 주요 인자임을 확인하였다.

물성치의 공간분포를 고려한 빙 시험편의 확률론적 강도평가 (Probabilistic Strength Assessment of Ice Specimen considering Spatial Variation of Material Properties)

  • As the Arctic sea ice decreases due to various reasons such as global warming, the demand for ships and offshore structures operating in the Arctic region is steadily increasing. In the case of sea ice, the anisotropy is caused by the uncertainty inside the material. For most of the research, nevertheless, estimating the ice load has been treated deterministically. With regard to this, in this paper, a four-point bending strength analysis of an ice specimen was attempted using a stochastic finite element method. First, spatial distribution of the material properties used in the yield criterion was assumed to be a multivariate Gaussian random field. After that, a direct method, which is a sort of stochastic finite element method, and a sensitivity method using the sensitivity of response for random variables were proposed for calculating the probabilistic distribution of ice specimen strength. A parametric study was conducted with different mean vectors and correlation lengths for each material property used in the above procedure. The calculation time was about ten seconds for the direct method and about three minutes for the sensitivity methods. As the cohesion and correlation length increased, the mean value of the critical load and the standard deviation increased. On the contrary, they decreased as the friction angle increased. Also, in all cases, the direct and sensitivity methods yielded very similar results.

Genomic DNA Extracted from Ancient Antarctic Glacier Ice for Molecular Analyses on the Indigenous Microbial Communities

  • From ancient Antarctic glacier ice, we extracted total genomic DNA that was suitable for prokaryotic 16S rDNA gene cloning and sequencing, and bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) library and end-sequencing. The ice samples were from the Dry Valley region. Age dating by $^{40}Ar/^{39}Ar$ analysis on the volcanic ashes deposited in situ indicated the ice samples are minimum 100,000-300,000 yr (sample DLE) and 8 million years (sample EME) old. Further assay proved the ice survived freeze-thaw cycles or other re-working processes. EME, which was from a small lobe of the basal Taylor glacier, is the oldest known ice on Earth. Microorganisms, preserved frozen in glacier ice and isolated from the rest of the world over a geological time scale, can provide valuable data or insight for the diversity, distribution, survival strategy, and evolutionary relationships to the extant relatives. From the 16S gene cloning study, we detected no PCR amplicons with Archaea-specific primers, however we found many phylotypes belonging to Bacteria divisions, such as Actinobacteria, Acidobacteria, Proteobacteria $({\alpha},\;{\beta},\;and\;{\gamma})$, Firmicutes, and Cytophaga-Flavobacterium-Bacteroid$. BAC cloning and sequencing revealed protein codings highly identical to phenylacetic acid degradation protein paaA, chromosome segregation ATPases, or cold shock protein B of present day bacteria. Throughput sequencing of the BAC clones is underway. Viable and culturable cells were recovered from the DLE sample, and characterized by their 16S rDNA sequences. Further investigation on the survivorship and functional genes from the past should help unveil the evolution of life on Earth, or elsewhere, if any.

수도권 대학생들의 고급 아이스크림에 대한 인지도 및 만족도 평가 (Estimate on Recognition and Satisfaction for High Quality Ice Creams of University Students in Seoul.Kyonggi Area)

  • This study surveyed university students in the Seoul and Kyonggi areas regarding their recognition and satisfaction of high quality ice creams. In terms of their preference for high quality ice creams, 152 (40.2%) answered "moderate", and 200 (52.9%) answered "likeable" or "very likeable", showing a very high preference. Ice cream was most often consumed as a snack (30.0%). The preferred food materials in combination with ice cream were fruits (32.8%), followed by chocolates (28.8%), dairy (15.6%), and nuts (7.7%). Many students viewed ice cream as an unhealthy food (46.8%), and the most frequent reason for using a selected brand was "taste" (46.6%), followed by "variety" (16.1%), "advertisement" (14.1%), and "operating of chain shop" (10.3%). In terms of overall satisfaction, 41.4% answered "somewhat satisfactory" or "very satisfactory", and only 9.8% answered "somewhat unsatisfactory" or "very unsatisfactory". The satisfaction construct was divided into nine sectors: nutrition, low calorie, functional, taste, color, variety, high quality, hygiene, and value. When these sectors were analyzed, "variety" was "somewhat satisfactory" or "very satisfactory" (74.2%), and "value" was "somewhat unsatisfactory" or "very unsatisfactory" (47.5%). In the analysis of satisfaction factors according to sectors, the Cronbach's $\alpha$ value related to nutrition was 0.755, that of preference was 0.830, and that of image was 0.661.

동결농축법을 이용한 염수 및 중금속 수용액의 동결거동에 관한 실험 연구 (An Experimental Study on Freezing Behavior of NaCl and Heavy Metal Aqueous Solution Using Freeze Concentration Method)

  • 동결농축폐수처리의 기술은 열역학적 효율이 높고 에너지 소비량이 작아 중소규모로 적합하며, 용수 재활용과 융해열의 냉열 재이용이 가능한 장점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 폐수 처리효율이 높은 동결농축폐수처리장치의 개발을 위해 수직원관 형태의 제빙관을 대상으로 염화나트륨수용액을 이용한 기초 실험을 통해 냉각면 온도, 기포 분사 방법에 따른 분리 성능을 확인 후 대표적 중금속인 Pb, Cr 수용액을 대상으로 냉각면 온도, 기포 직접 분사, 과냉각을 방지하기 위한 용질을 포함하지 않은 초기 빙층 두께의 영향에 따른 중금속 분리 성능을 실험 통해 확인하였다. 실험결과 두 수용액에서 모두 냉각면의 온도가 낮을수록 동결층의 성장속도가 빨라지고 용질의 분리효율이 저하되었다. 기포를 분사하는 방법 중에는 환모양의 노즐을 통해 동결계면에 직접 분사하는 방법이 원통벽면을 통해 간접 분사하는 것 보다 분리효율이 높게 나타났으며, 초기 빙층의 두께에 따른 실험에서는 1mm 보다는 5mm의 두께에서 분리효율이 더 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

  • 본 연구에서는 크림이 첨가된 난백젖산균발효식품에서 Lactobacillus acidophilus(KCTC 2182)생균수의 경시적인 변화, 크림 첨가 난백젖산균발효식품으로 만든 아이스크림의 관능적인 특성과 경도를 조사하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. (1) 크림의 첨가비율이 높을수록 젖산균 생육곡선의 stationary phase가 연장되고, 발효시간별 생균수도 높은 경향을 나타냈다. (2) Formula 4(크림 첨가비율 40%)와 Formula 5(크림 첨가비율 50%)로 만든 아이스크림의 관능적 특성이 다른 시료보다 우수하였으며, Formula 4의 15시간 발효시료가 아이스크림 제조원료로서 적합하였다. (3) 경도의 측정 결과를 보면 크림의 첨가비율이 증가할수록 경도가 감소하여 Formula 5의 경도가 가장 낮았다.

북극해 계측자료에 기초한 아라온호의 국부 빙압력 계산 연구 (A Study on Calculation of Local Ice Pressures for ARAON Based on Data Measured at Arctic Sea)

  • The icebreaking research vessel (IBRV) ARAON had her second ice trial in the Arctic Ocean in the summer season of 2010. During the voyage, the local ice loads acting on the bow of the port side were measured using 14 strain gauges. These measurements were carried out in three icebreaking performance tests. To convert the measured strains into the local ice pressures, a finite element model of the instrumented area was developed. The influence coefficient method (ICM), which uses the influence coefficient from the finite element model, and the direct method, which uses the measured strain, were selected as the conversion methods. As a result, the maximum measured pressure was 1.236MPa, and the average difference between ICM and the direct method was about 5% for an area of $0.2m^2$. The pressure-area relationship of the measurement falls below the range of the existing pressure-area curve, which is due to the low ice strength of melted ice in the summer.

태평양 북극 결빙 해역 내 유색 용존 유기물 CDOM 분포에 따른 태양광 투과 비교 (Transmission of Solar Light according the Relative CDOM Concentration of the Sea-ice-covered Pacific Arctic Ocean)

  • The transmission of solar light according to the distribution of chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) was measured in the Pacific Arctic Ocean. The Research Vessel Araon visited the ice-covered East Siberian and Chukchi Seas in August 2016. In the Arctic, solar [ultraviolet-A (UV-A), ultraviolet-B (UV-B), and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR)] radiation reaching the surface of the ocean is primarily protected by the distribution of sea ice. The transmission of solar light in the ocean is controlled by sea ice and dissolved organic matter, such as CDOM. The concentration of CDOM is the major factor controlling the penetration depth of UV radiation into the ocean. The relative CDOM concentration of surface sea water was higher in the East Siberian Sea than in the Chukchi Sea. Due to the distribution of CDOM, the penetration depth of solar light in the East Siberian Sea (UV-B, $9{\pm}2m$; UV-A, $13{\pm}2m$; PAR, $36{\pm}4m$) was lower than in the Chukchi Sea (UV-B, $15{\pm}3m$; UV-A, $22{\pm}3m$; PAR, $49{\pm}3m$). Accelerated global warming and the rapid decrease of sea ice in the Arctic have resulted in marine organisms being exposed to increased harmful UV radiation. With changes in sea ice covered areas and concentrations of dissolved organic matter in the Arctic Ocean, marine ecosystems that consist of a variety of species from primary producers to high-trophic-level organisms will be directly or indirectly affected by solar UV radiation.
