  • The flow around a rotating circular cylinder near a plane wall is investigated by the measurement of the lift acting on the cylinder and by the flow visualization using the hydrogen bubble technique in the circulating water tank. The experimental parameters are the rotating direction of the cylinder, the space ratios H/D($H/D=0.05{\sim}0.5$) between cylinder and plane wall and the velocity ratios ${\alpha}({\alpha}=0{\sim}{\pm}2.0)$. In the case of clockwise, the lift on the rotating circular cylinder was increased with the reduction of the space ratios and with the velocity ratios, the upper separation point was more shifted in the rotating direction with them. In the case of anticlockwise, the absolute value of the lift on the rotating circular cylinder was increased with the space ratios and with the velocity ratios, the lower separation point was more shifted in the rotating direction with them.

  • Air-fuel mixing and flame-holding are two important factors that have to be considered in the design of an injection system. Different injection strategies have been proposed with particular concern for rapid air-fuel mixing and flame-holding. Two representative injection techniques can be applied in a supersonic combustor. One of the simplest approaches is a transverse(normal) injection. The cavity flame holder, an integrated fuel injection/flame-holding approach, has been proposed as a new concept for flame holding and air-fuel mixing in a supersonic combustor. This paper describes numerical efforts to characterize the flame-holding and air-fuel mixing process of a model scramjet engine combustor, where hydrogen is injected into a supersonic cross flow and a cavity. The combustion phenomena in a model scramjet engine, which has been experimentally studied at University of Queensland and Australian National University using a free-piston shock tunnel, were observed around the separation region of the transverse injector upstream and the inside cavity. The results show that this flow separation generates recirculation regions which increase air-fuel mixing. Self-ignition occurs in the separation-freestream and cavity-fteestream interfaces.

Enantiodiscrimination and molecular docking study of chiral amines as 2-hydroxynaphthaldimine derivatives using amylose derived chiral selectors

  • This study describes the liquid chromatographic enantiomer separation of three typical chiral amines (α-methylbenzylamine, 2-amino-4-methyl-1-pentanol, and 1-methylheptylamine) as 2-hydroxynaphthaldimine derivatives using six amylose trisphenylcarbamates derived chiral stationary phases (CSPs). It was observed that the structural nature of three chiral amines and the structures of amylose chiral selectors can affect their chiral recognition ability. Among the three analytes as 2-hydroxynaphthaldimine derivatives, in general, the greatest enantioselectivities of aromatic amine analyte (α-methylbenzylamine) were achieved on amylose trisphenylcarbamate derived CSPs and were followed by amino alcohol analyte (2-amino-4-methyl-1-pentanol), and aliphatic amine analyte (1-methylheptylamine). Also, the enantiodiscrimination abilities obtained on the two CSPs, Chiralpak ID and Chiralpak IF, were selectively higher than the other four amylose trisphenylcarbamate derived CSPs for the studied analytes. The underlying chiral recognition mechanism between 2-amino-4-methyl-1-pentanol as 2-hydroxynaphthaldimine derivatives and amylose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) chiral selector of Chiralpak AD-H and Lux Amylose-1 was elucidated by molecular docking study, and it was observed that the intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions by hydroxyl moiety on the amino alcohol analyte as 2-hydroxynaphthaldimine derivatives were the main interactive forces driving the chiral separation. The obtained binding energies between 2-amino-4-methyl-1-pentanol analyte as 2-hydroxynaphthaldimine derivative and amylose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) chiral selector were in agreement with the experimentally determined enantioseparation and elution order by chiral HPLC.

수소생산을 위한 해조류 유래 수용액 상 바이오오일의 수증기 개질 반응 (Hydrogen Production by Steam Reforming of Aqueous Bio-Oil from Marine Algae)

  • 해조류 유래 급속열분해를 통해 생성된 바이오오일로부터 수소가스를 생산하기 위해 상용 개질 촉매를 사용하여 수증기 개질 반응을 수행하였다. 반응원료로 급속열분해로부터 생성되는 crude 바이오오일의 상분리를 통해 얻어진 수용액상의 바이오오일이 사용되었으며, 상용 개질 촉매(FCR-4-02, POS-7, Cat. A, RUA), 반응온도 및 수증기/탄소(S/C) 비율에 따른 수증기 개질 반응의 활성을 비교 연구하였다. 실험 결과 원료의 S/C 비율과 촉매의 구성성분에 따라 반응활성이 크게 달라지는 것이 확인되었으며, 특히 POS-7 촉매를 사용한 1073 K, S/C 비율 10의 조건에서의 수증기 개질 반응에서 가장 높은 수소 수율(70%)이 확인되었다.

Synthesis of Core@shell Structured CuFeS2@TiO2 Magnetic Nanomaterial and Its Application for Hydrogen Production by Methanol Aqueous Solution Photosplitting

  • A new magnetic semiconductor material was synthesized to enable separation after a liquid-type photocatalysis process. Core@shell-structured $CuFeS_2@TiO_2$ magnetic nanoparticles were prepared by a combination of solvothermal and wet-impregnation methods for photocatalysis applications. The materials obtained were characterized using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible, photoluminescence spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area measurements, and cyclic voltammetry. This study confirmed that the light absorption of $CuFeS_2$ was shifted significantly to the visible wavelength compared to pure $TiO_2$. Moreover, the resulting hydrogen production from the photo-splitting methanol/water solution after 10 hours was more than 4 times on the core@shell structured $CuFeS_2@TiO_2$ nanocatalyst than on either pure $TiO_2$ or $CuFeS_2$.

PSA를 이용한 수소분리 실험과 이론에 관한 연구 (Experimental and Theoretical study of H2 Separation Using PSA Process)

  • 본 연구는 압력균등화 공정이 추가된 2 컬럼 6 스뎁의 활성탄 PSA공정을 이용하여 비단열, 비등은 조건에서 메탄(80%)과 수소(20%)의 2성분계로부터 수소분리에 관한 연구이다. 공급가스의 압력, 흡착시간, 공급속도와 P/F 비율이 PSA공정에 미치는 영향에 대하여 평가했고 전산모사를 통해 최적조건을 구했다. 전산모사에 의한 최적 조건은 공급속도 17 LPM, 흡착압력 11 atm, P/F 비율이 0.07~0.1로 나타났으며, 이 조건으로부터 순도 99%, 회수율 85% 이상의 수소가스를 얻을 수 있었다.

Hybrid between Inorganic Material and Biological Photosystem1 for Light Energy Application

  • The attractive features of photosynthetic reaction center proteins for energy application make them useful in solar energy conversion to hydrogen fuel or electrical energy. Almost unity charge separation quantum yield and its rapid speed of ~1ns, absorbance region in visible light (480~740 nm) and high proportion of photosynthetically active solar energy of 48.5% allowed photosystem1 to exploited as a bio-material for photo-energy devices. Directionality of photosystem1 in electron transfer can solve main problem in two-step water splitting process where back reaction deteriorates the overall efficiency. In the study, photosystem1 was extracted from spinach and the photo-induced excited electron in the reaction center was utilized in various field of light energy application. First, hydrogen evolving system realized by photodeposition of platinum at the end of the electron transfer chain, with combining specific semiconductor to oxidize water in the first step of Z-scheme. The evaluation by gas-chromatography demonstrated hydrogen evolution through the system. For the further application of photoelectrical material on electrode, photosystem1 have been controlled by copper ion, which is expected to assemble photosystem in specific orientation followed by maximized photoelectrical ability of film. The research proposed concrete methods for combining natural protein and artificial materials in one system and suggested possibility of designing interface between biological and inorganic materials.

폐금속 광산지역 농경지 납, 아연 오염 토양의 중금속 고도선별 (Enhanced Separation Technique of Heavy Metal (Pb, Zn) in Contaminated Agricultural Soils near Abandoned Metal Mine)

  • The study is to propose the optimal separation technique of heavy metals (Pb and Zn) contaminated in soil for improving the removal efficiency by various applicable techniques. The heavy metal contaminated soil samples near abandoned mine X-1 and X-2 were used for the study. Firstly, the wet classification process was shown more than 80% of removal efficiency for lead and zinc. Meanwhile, the magnetic separation process was shown low removal efficiency for lead and zincs because those heavy metals were non-magnetic materials. For the next step, the flotation separation process was shown approximately 24.4% of removal efficiency for zinc, while the gravity concentration process was shown approximately 57% of removal efficiency for lead, and 19.9% of removal efficiency for zinc, respectively. Therefore, zinc contaminated in soil would be effectively treated by the combination technique of the wet classification and the flotation technique. Meanwhile, lead contaminated in soil would be effectively treated by the combination technique of the wet classification process and the flotation process. Furthermore, the extraction of organic matter was shown more effective with aeration, 3% of hydrogen peroxide and 3% of lime such as calcium hydroxide.

황-요오드 수소 생산 공정의 분젠 반응 부분에서 부반응 제어 (The Control of Side Reactions in Bunsen Reaction Section of Sulfur-Iodine Hydrogen Production Process)

  • For continuous operation of the sulfur-iodine(SI) thermochemical cycle, which is expected practical method for massive hydrogen production, suggesting operation conditions at steady state is very important. Especially, in the Bunsen reaction section, the Bunsen reaction as well as side reactions is occurring simultaneously. Therefore, we studied on the relation between the variation of compositions in product solution and side reactions. The experiments for Bunsen reaction were carried out in the temperature range, from 268 to 353 K, and in the $I_2/H_2O$ molar ratio of $0.094{\sim}0.297$ under a continuous flow of $SO_2$ gas. As the result, sulfur formed predominantly with increasing temperature and decreasing $I_2/H_2O$ molar ratios. The molar ratios of $H_2O/H_2SO_4$ and $HI/H_2SO_4$ in global system were decreased as the more side reaction occurred. A side reactions did not appear at $I_2/H_2O$ molar ratios, saturated with $I_2$, irrespective of the temperature change. We concluded that it caused by the increasing stability of an $I_{2x}H^+$ complex and a steric hindrance with increasing $I_2/HI$ molar ratios.

실리카라이트에 담지된 백금촉매의 수소흡착특성 연구 (Characterization of Hydrogen Adsorption for the Silicalite-Supported Platinum Catalysts)

  • 여러 가지 중수생산 공정중에서 백금촉매를 이용한 수소-중수소 동위원소 교환반응에 의해 중수를 생산하는 공정이 가장 효율적인 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 수소동위원소 교환반응에 이용될 수 있는 소수성 백금촉매를 개발하기 위하여, 담체로서 실리카라이트를 합성하였으며, 합성된 실리카라이트가 활성탄이나 ZSM-5보다 더 강한 소수성을 가지는 것을 보였다. 또한, 일반적인 함침법과 이온교환법을 이용하여 백금을 담지시켰으며, 여러 가지 방법으로 처리하여 제조한 백금담지 실리카라이트 촉매의 백금분산도를 수소흡착법을 이용하여 측정하였다. 함침법에 의해 제조된 촉매의 백금분산도는 매우 낮았으며, 이온교환법에의해 제조된 촉매는 백금담지량은 적으나 분산도는 높음을 확인하였다.
