  • Japan is leading standards for the hydrogen fuel quality on the PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) vehicle at ISO/TC197/WG12. However, it has many problems to solve the standard of measurement and the test method. because the standard of measurement which was proposed in Japan is too high to reach the technique for many countries. it might not control standards for the hydrogen fuel quality on the PEMFC vehicle in Korea. So we need to develop the study of standards and the technique of measurement continuously for the International Standards Meeting.

  • FCEV uses electric energy which generated from the reaction between Hydrogen and Oxygen in fuel cell stack as driving force. As fossil fuels are exhausted, fuel cell is regarded as a potent substitute for next generation energy source, and thus, most of car-makers make every efforts to develop fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV). In addition, fuel cell is also beneficial in aspect of environment, because only clean water is produced during chemical reaction process instead of harmful exhausted gas. Generally, Hydrogen is supplied from high-pressured fuel tank, and air blower (or compressor) supply Oxygen by pressurizing ambient air. Air blower which is driven by high speed motor consumes about $7{\sim}8$ % of energy generated from fuel cell stack. Therefore, the efficiency of an air blower is directly linked with the performance of FCEV. This study will present the development process of an air blower and its consisting parts respectively.

  • We developed and tested the high pressure hydrogen gas cylinder(type4) for fuel cell vehicle. The working pressure is 350bar. We conducted material tests, production tests and design qualification tests on the developed cylinders according to modified NGV2-2000(hydrogen). The high pressure hydrogen gas cylinder met all the design qualification requirements of ANSI/CSA NGV2-2000 and acquired NGV2 certification from independent inspection agency.

Naphtha의 stream reforming에 의한 수소제조방법에 대한 전과정평가 (Life Cycle Assessment for Hydrogen Production Method using Stream Reforming of Naphtha)

  • In this study, it achieved life cycle assessment to estimate environmental performance for naphtha steam reforming that account for the production over 50% of total hydrogen output. Although hydrogen dosen't emit air emissions, especially, $CO_2$, a large of $CO_2$ is emitted in hydrogen production process. In the result of this study, it ascertained the truth that $CO_2$ is emitted at the rate of $6.3kg/kgH_2$ and that result from steam reforming reaction and use of fossil fuel in hydrogen manufacturing process. Above all, 57% of total $CO_2$ emissions is emitted in process of steam reforming of naphtha and so it knew that the principle of steam reforming is key issue in aspect to environment. Also, it compared hydrogen by fuel of fuel cell vehicle with gasoline fuel of general gasoline vehicle to analyze relative environment of hydrogen for fossil fuel during the life cycle. As the result, it might be difficult in improvement of environment because $CO_2$ emissions during the hydrogen manufacturing process is nearly the same with that during the use of gasoline.

  • A proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) produces only water at cathode by an electrochemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. The generated water is transported across the membrane from the cathode to the anode. The transported water collected in water-trap and drained to the cathode within the humidifier outlet. If the condensate water is not being drained at the appropriate time, condensate water in the anode can cause the performance degradation or fuel efficiency degradation of fuel cell by the anode flooding or unnecessary hydrogen discharge. In this study, we proposed an optimization method of condensate water drain logic for the water drain performance and the water drain algorithm as considered the condensate water generating speed prep emergency case. In conclusion, we developed the water management strategy of fuel processing system (FPS) as securing fuel efficiency and operating stability.

  • Fuel cells are suitable for a power plant of a unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as it is not only environmentally friendly and quiet but also more efficient than an internal combustion engine. A fuel cell hybrid UAV has better performance in endurance than a fuel cell only or battery only UAV. One of the key purposes of making fuel cell hybrid UAVs is having long endurance and now maximum 26 hours of flight is possible. Because optimal design and control methods for fuel cell hybrid UAVs are absolutely needed for their long endurance we have to check the methods. The aircraft made by using application-integrated design method has less BOP mass and better performances. The optimal design and control methods are generally based on computer simulations or Hardware-In-The-Loop simulations by using dynamic models for their design and control. The Hardware-In-The-Loop simulation (HILS) is to use a hardware device like a fuel cell stack as well as a simulation program and it allows for making optimally designed applications. This paper introduce efficient methods of design, control and evaluation for the fuel cell hybrid UAVs.

수소 경제를 위한 국가R&D과제에서 연료전지전기차의 지식구조 탐색 (Exploring the Knowledge Structure of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle in National R&D Projects for the Hydrogen Economy)

  • 미국, 유럽, 중국, 일본 등 주요 선진국은 탄소 경제에서 수소 경제로의 전환을 위해 다양한 수소 경제 정책을 발표하며 연구역량을 집중하고 있다. 우리나라도 이러한 추세에 발맞추어 2019년 초 수소 경제 활성화 로드맵을 발표한 이래로 수소 경제 관련 법안을 마련하고 지원책을 실시하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 국가과학기술지식정보서비스(NTIS)의 국가R&D과제정보 최근 10년치 데이터를 활용해 수소 경제, 그중에서도 전·후방 파급효과가 크다고 할 수 있는 연료전지전기차 관련 R&D 현황과 지식구조를 파악하고자 한다. 연료전지전기차 관련 국가R&D과제(2020년 1월 기준) 1,479개의 원시 데이터를 바탕으로 네트워크 분석 및 텍스트 마이닝을 실시한 결과, 연료전지전기차 분야에서는 수소의 생산, 운반, 저장, 활용의 전 프로세스에 걸친 기술 및 시스템의 연구개발이 활발하게 이루어지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 논문은 해당 연구결과를 통해 현재 연료전지전기차 산업을 선도하고 있는 한국의 수소 경제 관련 정책 수립과 연구개발, 시장 전략에 대해 시사점을 제시한다.

수소연료전지 하이브리드 철도차량용 DC/DC 컨버터를 위한 부스트 컨버터 토폴로지 비교 및 분석 (Comparison and Analysis of Boost Converter Topologies for the DC/DC Converter in Hydrogen Fuel Cell Hybrid Railway Vehicle)

  • In this paper, two types of DC/DC converters in a hydrogen fuel cell hybrid railway vehicle system, which serve to charge high-voltage battery and supply power to an inverter for driving a driving motor, were compared and analyzed. A two-level interleaving boost converter and a three-level boost converter were compared and analyzed, and a theoretical design method was proposed to have an efficiency characteristic of over 95%. In addition, a digital controller design method considering the digital phase delay component of DSP (TMS320F28335) is presented. Finally, the validity of the theoretical design of the converter with 20kW power was verified through static and dynamic experiments respectively.

수소전기차 기술 개발 및 보급 정책 동향 (R&D Technology and Dissemination Policy and of FCEV)

  • 현재 수소전기차는 승용 및 상용 등 다양한 모빌리티 분야에서 전 세계적으로 이슈가 되고 있다. 환경규제 강화, 신기후체제 출범 등의 변화의 물결에 따라 자동차산업의 패러다임이 친환경으로 전환되고 있으며, 세계적으로 관련 기술 개발 및 보급을 위한 확대 정책이 발표되고 있다. 1990년 초 수소전기차(Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle, FCEV) 기술 개발이 진행되어 1994년 독일 다임러사가 세계 최초로 NECAR1을 개발하였다. 이후 많은 완성차가 상용화를 위해 기술개발이 진행되었으며, 2013년 국내 현대차가 세계최초로 양산차인 투싼 ix 수소전기차를 출시하였다. 1년 이후 다시 일본 도요타에서 세계 최초로 전용 차체를 적용한 미라이 수소전기차가 출시되면서 초기시장이 형성되었으며, 이후 현대차는 NEXO를 2018년에 발표하였다. 전 세계적으로 가장 많이 팔린 수소전기차에 해당된다. 2021년 미라이 2세대가 더욱 진보된 기술을 바탕으로 출시되었으며, 국내 현대차에서도 2세대 수소전기차 출시를 앞두고 있다. 또한 수소승용차 뿐만 아니라 수소상용차 시장이 뜨겁게 부각되고 있으며, 각국에서 수소상용차 기술개발을 진행하고 있다. 본 기획특집에서는 각국의 수소전기차 기술개발 및 보급 정책을 소개하고 국내 기술개발 및 보급 정책의 타당성을 확인하고자 하였다.

운전 조건에 따른 PEMFC 스택 열 관리 (The Heat Management of PEM Fuel Cell Stack)

  • PEM fuel cell produces electric power, water and heat by the electrochemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen. The heating value is dependent on the molar enthalpy of vaporization of product water and the performance loss. In this paper, the heating value of fuel cell stack has been studied under various stack operating temperatures to achieve more efficient heat management. A technology using the molar enthalpy of vaporization of product water is suggested to reduce heat-up time during start-up of a fuel cell vehicle.
