  • The hydropiercing process gives a lot of advantages to the tube hydroforming such as cost reduction and high productivity. However it has a drawback, the amount of deflection around the hole is bigger than that of conventional die piercing process. The deflection can cause the problem at the assembly process of stamped parts and hydroformed part. Therefore the reduction of deflection is one of the most important issues for hydropiercing process. In this study, the deflection around hydropierced hole was investigated by experiment. As a result of investigation, the amount of deflection is influenced by the internal pressure, the material thickness' and the size of hole. Especially the hole size is most influencing factor on the deflection around the hydropierced hole.

  • The forming limit diagram of tube is required for the part design and the formability analysis of tube hydroforming. The finite element analyses of simple bulge test were done to obtain the various strain combinations on FLC. The finite element analysis results were shown that the bursting at various strain combinations could be induced by simple bulge test. The experiment oi tube bulge test was carried out according to the test condition that obtained from finite element analysis and the left hand side of forming limit diagram was built.

  • In this study, hydroforming characteristic of the double-layered tube was investigated in the hydroforming process. The double-layered tube can be made outer surface on the stainless steel by only one processing. The free bulging test was performed to analysis optimized pressure and axial feeding amount of the double layered tubes. And the experimental results between stainless/carbon and carbon/carbon double-layered tube were compared with the forming data. Moreover analysis model that can be hydroformability and predictable forming pressure of double-layered tube was presented.

  • A bumper comprises a bumper face, a bumper beam for distributing the load from the impacts applied to the bumper face and reinforcing the bumper, an absorber member interposed between the bumper face and the bumper beam, and a pair of bumper stays which secure the bumper beam to the vehicle body. A conventional bumper stay structure is assembled into several stamped parts, so several processes are needed and the structure is complicated. In this study the bumper stay is applied to the tubular hydroforming which is known to have several advantages such as the reduction of the number of the process and the part weight. The thickness distribution of the tube is mainly considered to evaluate the hydro-formability and the shape of the tube is determined.

  • The sectional forming analysis program for analyzing the hydroforming processes of axisymmetric sheet parts was tleveloped. The rigid-viscoplastic FEM formulation based on membrane theory was derived, wh~cta simi~ltaneously solve force equilibrium as well as non-penetration condition. Hill's non-quadratic normal anisotropic yield theory(1979) was used for material behaviour. For describing the liquid pressure iaction, the flexible tool concept was introduced. Isotropic hardening law was also assumed. To verify the \,alidity of the formulation, the stepped cup forming process as well as the hydrostatic bulging test were \imnlated. Simulation results agreed well with Finckenstein and experimental ones.

  • The deformation behaviors of fully annealed or T6-treated 6061 and 7075 aluminum tubes are investigated at elevated temperature using uniaxial tensile test. Fully annealed 6061 and 7075 tube, and T6-treated 7075 tube do not show sharp local necking with an elongation of $50\%$ at tensile temperature of $300^{\circ}C$, accordingly, it is expected that warm hydroforming process can be applied. The increase of tensile temperature does not significantly affect the total elongation of T6-treated 6061 tube.

  • There are many different kinds of forming processes to make a tubular product such as hydroforming and tube drawing. However, we should consider a better forming process in view point of energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission to save our earth. In this paper we have conducted FEM simulations to the various forming processes for sheet and tubular products to compare their energy consumptions. One example is tubular product and the other for drawn cup. From the comparisons of total energy for hydrofroming and tube sinking processes, hydroforming is consumed more energy than tube drawing. Also the cup drawing from sheet metal and tube sinking for the cup with flange indicate that the tube sinking is better than cup drawing of sheet metal in energy consumption.

  • Modern automobiles are built with a steadily increasing variety of materials and semifinished products. The traditional composition of steel sheet and cast iron is being replaced with other materials such as aluminum and magnesium. But low formability of these materials has prevented the application of the automotive components. The formability can be enhanced by conducting the warm hydroforming using induction heating device which can raise the temperature of the specimen very quickly. The specimen applied to the test is A6061, A7075 extruded tubes which belong to the age-hardenable aluminum alloys. But in the case of A6061 age hardening occurs at room temperature or at elevated temperatures before and after the forming process. In this study the effects of the heating condition such as heating time, preset temperature, holding time during die closing and forming time on the hydroformability are analyzed to evaluate the phenomena such as dynamic strain hardening and ageing hardening at high temperatures after the hydroforming process.

  • Modern manufacturing process requires machine intelligence to meet the demands for high technology products as well as intelligence-based operating skills to lessen human worker's intervene. To meet this trend there has been wide spread interest in applying artificial neural network(ANN) to the areas of manufacturing process monitoring and control. This paper addresses application problems in such processes as welding, assembly, hydroforming process and inspection of solder joints.
