Water that is treated by passing through a magnetic field of certain strength is called Magnetic Field Treated Water(MFTW). Previous research indicate that use of MFTW can save 5% of cement dosage, decrease bleeding of concrete, and improve resistance to freezing. The reason why MFTW can improve characteristics of concrete can be explained by the molecular structure of water. Magnetic force can break apart water clusters into single molecules or smaller ones, therefore, the activity of water is improved. While hydration of cement particles is in progress, the MFTW can penetrate the core region of cement particles more easily. Hence, hydration takes place more efficiently which in turn improves concrete compressive strength. Test results demonstrate that the compressive strength of the sodium silicate cement grout homogel increases by approximately 20 - 50% by using the MFTW.

In this study, revelation performance of concrete at early age according to types of cement, water reducing ratio of high performance superplasticizer and mixing of accelerator for early hydration was examined aiming for reduction of construction period of framework through securing strength at early age of concrete. It was observed that strength at early age, 5MPa in 12hours, 14MPa in 18hours, is secured by early strength improvement type cement and using promotion admixture for early hydration which are Sodium persulfate, Potassium hydroxide. Therefore cost reduction is expected to be possible in construction site by reducing construction period of frame work.
Properties of slag cement that contained 50 wt% of blast furnace slag were studied when replaced blast furnace slag powder with electric arc furnace slag powder. Electric arc furnace slag was aged for about 2 months in the air by being crushed to be 1-3 mm in size. As a result of the experiment, it was proven that the water content for obtaining the same consistency became decreased as slag is replaced with electric arc furnace slag instead of blast furnace slag. Also, the workability of mortar increased about 30% at the same ratio of water to binder when blast furnace slag was completely replaced with electric arc furnace slag. The compressive strength of mortar on the 28 days increased when a slag replacement rate became 10 wt%, however, it rather decreased when the slag replacement rate exceeded 10 wt%. The heat of hydration became higher for the first 14 h in case of the replacement of slag cement by electric arc furnace slag. Yet, it decreased when 14 h had passed. Therefore, when all blast furnace slag was replaced with electric arc furnace slag, about 15 cal/g heat of hydration decreased when it passed about 72 h.

The semi-adiabatic temperature rise and the losses of temperature of cement paste, mortar and concrete were measured by an apparatus of semi-adiabatic temperature. Heat of hydration was measured by a conduction calorimeter and adiabatic temperature rise of concrete was measured by an adiabatic calorimeter. The derived equation which can assume the adiabatic temperature was proposed by measuring the semi-adiabatic temperature of concrete. The maximum adiabatic temperature rise of concrete obtained by the derived equation of adiabatic temperature, $T_{ad}(t)=T_{sad}(t)+T_{dis}(t)$, showed $55^{\circ}C$ approximately and it had good relation with the other one obtained by the heat of hydration of cement paste and with maximum value which was measured by the adiabatic calorimeter. The adiabatic temperature rise obtained by derived equation was a different information in comparison with the value obtained by adiabatic temperature rise equations by Hell and et. al. in early age, but it showed similar tendencies with the other one according to elapsed time. Adiabatic temperature rise of lich mix concrete with highly cement content was predicted. The adiabatic temperature rise of cement paste and mortar obtained by derived equation from us showed comparatively matching results to compared with that of obtained by adiabatic temperature equation from concrete standard specification.

In this study, the effect of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) on the fire resistance properties of fiber-reinforced cement composites was investigated. The main variables were CNCs content (0.4, 0.8 and 1.2vol.% compared with cement), steel fiber ratio, and exposure temperature (100, 200, 400, 600 and 800℃). The fire resistance properties, i.e., residual compressive strength, flexural strength, and porosity, were evaluated in relation with the exposure temperature of the specimens. The CNCs suspensions were prepared to composited dispersion method of magnetic stirring and ultra-sonication. CNCs are effective for increasing the compressive strength at high temperatures but CNCs do not seem to have a significant effect on flexural reinforcement. Porosity test result showed CNCs reduce the non-hydration area inside the cement and promote hydration.

With the increasing importance of environmental issues, the cementitious materials with self-cleaning or photocatalytic properties by introducing TiO2 materials have been gaining a lot of attention. In this work, the influence of TiO2 particle size and structure on its photocatalytic effect in cement paste was investigated. The degradation of methylene blue solution was used as the parameter for evaluating the photocatalytic effect of micro-TiO2 (m-TiO2), nano-TiO2 (n-TiO2), and TiO2 nanotube (TNT). Moreover, the effect of these three TiO2 materials on the cement hydration products was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermgravimetric analysis (TG). According to the results, it can be found that all of the TiO2 materials promoted the formation of hydration products, especially TNT. On the other hand, the m-TiO2 exhibited a better photocatalytic effect compared to other materials.
To examine the effects of chemical admixture on the fluidity and strength development of high chloride cement, experiments were conducted in which lignosulfonate (LS), naphthalenesulfonate (NS), and polycorboxylate (PC) were each added in standard and excessive amounts, and the results were as follows. 1. Because adding KCl to NS causes a decrease in flow, adding PC is better in maintaining high cement fluidity. 2. When cement contained much chloride comes in contact with water, hydration begins 4 h after contact and securing workability becomes difficult, but by adding PC, workability can be secured to 10 h. 3. The bound water ratio and compressive strength in aging 3 days occupy $70\sim80%$ of those in aging 28 days, and the early compressive strength increases not only by adding KCl, but also by chemical admixture. 4. Although compressive strength development is excellent in NS, PC, if NS is added excessively, hydration becomes slow and while the pore structures become slightly minute, the strength development decreases due to severe setting retardation.

This experimental study is purposed to analyze the effect of alkaline aqueous solution by electrolysis on strength development in order to develop high volume cement matrix using industrial by-products. Blast furnace slag was used a binder, and an alkaline aqueous solution obtained by electrolyzing pure water was used as an alkali activator. The hydration properties of these specimens were then investigated by compressive strength test, XRD and observation of micro-structures using SEM. As a result, we found that compressive strength increased with the addition of alkaline aqueous solution which cement matrix incorporating blast furnace slag. But those strength decreased reversely when replacing ratio of blast furnace slag was increased. It is judged that results of engineering properties evaluation on the binder and alkaline aqueous solution are useful as a basic data for mixtures design and evaluation properties of high volume cement matrix using by-products.

Recently, researches on High-Volume Fly ash Cement(HVFC), which is replacing high portion of cement to fly ash, have been actively conducted to reduce $CO_2$ formation. Though HVFC has various advantages, low strength development in early ages is pointed out as the biggest problem in the application of fly ash. In order to overcome such limitations, this study investigated the hydration and compressive strength characteristics of HVFC paste depending on the fly ash content with the mixing ratio varying from 0 to 80 %. Experimental results show that the HVFC paste with low water-binder ratio can overcome the limitation of low compressive strength at early ages. Also, from the result of heat flow delay, 50 % of fly ash weight ratio was the critical point of the filler effect.

In this study, the basic properties of cement paste with varying replacement ratio of micro-silica and fumed silica were analyzed to determine the suitability of nanomaterials for use as concrete admixtures. Referring to the ultra-high strength mix, the fluidity of cement paste was evaluated according to the nanomaterial replacement rate and the compressive strength characteristics were compared and analyzed. The related properties of the reactive nanomaterials to the cement hydrate were analyzed using SEM and EDS to observe the microstructure and identify the components of the hydration product. The reactive nanomaterials used in this study had tap densities between 0.061 and 0.264 g/cm3, which were lower than SF. Micro silica exhibited excellent compressive strength properties with increasing replacement ratio, but fumed silica, unlike micro white, obtained excellent compressive strength at replacement ratio of 0.01~0.1 %. The same trend was observed in the hydration characterization.
