Seismic Behavior of Steel Coupling Beams (철골 커플링 보의 내진거동)

  • Since a ductile coupled shear wall system is the primary seismic load resisting systems of many structures, a coupling beams of these system must exhibit excellent ductility and energy absorption capacity. In this paper, the seismic response of coupled shear wall system is discussed. The cyclic response of steel coupling beams embedded into reinforced concrete boundary elements was studied. Three half-scale subassemblies representing a portion of a prototype structure were designed. constructed, and tested. The main test variables were the connection details of hybrid coupled shear wall. These efforts have resulted in details for increasing the seismic capacity of steel coupling beam in the seismic behavior of buildings.

A Retransmission Power Adjustment Scheme for Performance Enhancement in DS/SSMA ALOHA with Packet Combining

  • In this paper, we present a retransmission power adjustment (RPA) scheme for DS/SSMA ALOHA packet radio systems with packet combining. In the proposed RPA scheme, retransmission power is adjusted in such a way that the erroneously-received packet can be recovered with a minimized interference to other user packets. We analyze the performance of the system with the RPA by employing the equilibrium point analysis (EPA), and confirm that the results obtained from the EPA are very close to the simulation results in low power cases. Simulation results demonstrate that the RPA scheme brings forth performance gain in the throughput and the average delay while saving a significant amount of transmission power. We also investigate the stability of the system from the EPA results, and conclude that the system becomes stable as the offered load increases or the level of retransmission power decreases.

  • Solar daylighting system provides free and comfort lighting, but its cost has been key issue due to difficult design and control of the heavy light collecting system. One of the solutions for the heavy design issues would be using a light framed film such fresnel and prism lens. Prism light guide luminaires have for some time been used to distribute light when it is desirable to have remote light sources. These systems are helpful when it is desirable to have fewer light sources, and/or to position light sources in places where lamp maintenance is easier, or electrical hazard is reduced. This proposed prototype system consists of light collector, light transformer and light pipe.

  • Recently, there a lot of activities on the researches that implement many kinds of control system using power lines. To implement that, it is desirable to use hybrid PSK model because it takes advantage of PSK and DPSK which has a low-bit-error rate. In this parer, we implement the transmitter of this model. Because the power line is not designed for the data communication, we separated the signal generator circuit and the signal loading circuit so that minimized noises from outside. Also, to make it easy on the experiments, most of process are performed by software. As a result, transmitting a high frequency signal on the power line made no effects on the electrical devices.

  • 실시간으로 초고속 이동통신 서비스를 제공하기 위해 5 세대 이동통신 시스템에서는 초광대역(ultra wideband) 시스템 구축에 용이한 3-300GHz 밀리미터파 대역의 도입을 고려하고 있다. 그러나 밀리미터파 대역 신호는 상용 이동통신에서 사용되는 3GHz 이하의 대역에 비하여 전파특성이 열악하다. 이러한 밀리미터파 대역의 효과적인 활용을 위해 5 세대 이동통신 시스템에는 아날로그/디지털 빔포밍 기술을 결합한 하이브리드 빔포밍 기술을 고려하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 하이브리드 빔포밍 기술을 적용한 다중 안테나 상향링크 시스템에서 제로-포싱 (zero-forcing) 구조의 송수신기 설계 기법을 소개한다.

  • Recently, more power facilities are needed to cope with the increasing electric demand. However, the additional construction of generators, transmission and distribution installations is not easy because of environmental problems and citizen's complaints. Under this circumstance, a microgrid system with distributed renewable resources emerges as an alternative of the traditional power systems. Moreover, the configuration of power system changes with more DC loads and more DC installations. This paper is written to introduce an idea of a genetic algorithm-based solution to determine the optimal capacity of the distributed generators depending on the types of system configuration: AC-link, DC-link and Hybrid-link types. In this paper, photovoltaic, wind turbine, energy storage system and diesel generator are considered as distributed generators and the feasibility of the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing the calculated capacity of each distributed resource with HOMER simulation results for 3 types of system configuration.

  • Flame retardancy and mechanical properties of recycled polyolefinic plastics/inorganic filler composite systems were investigated by using several inorganic flame retardants such as magnesium hydroxide and slag powder generated electro arc furnace Compatibilizer user each maleic anhydride functionalized polyethylene (PE-g-MAH) and polypropylene(PP-g-MAH) or used mixture of these. The effect of polymeric compatibilizers on the properties of composites was studied by tensile and impact test, differential scanning calorimetry, in the changed fracture mechanism. The improved adhesion was particularly reflected in the mechanical properties. The flame retardancy of composites was examined by measuring limiting oxygen index(LOI, ASTM D2863), smoke density(ASTM D2843) and vertical burning test(UL94). Regarding the flame retardant effect, the EAF slag powder is behaving as synergists as they are only active in the presence of magnesium hydroxide.

  • This study proposes a case based reasoning system with two dimensional reduction techniques. In this study, vertical and horizontal dimensions of the research data are reduced through hybrid feature and instance selection process using genetic algorithms. We applied the proposed model to customer classification model which utilizes customers' demographic characteristics as inputs to predict their buying behavior for the specific product. Experimental results show that the proposed technique may improve the classification accuracy and outperform various optimized models of typical CBR system.

  • 산업 혁명에 뒤이은 디지털 혁명 시대에 가장 큰 변화는 경제 활동의 변화를 들 수 있을 것이다. 기존에 존재하던 많은 실물 시장(Real Market)은 가상 공간(Cyber Space)상으로 이전하게 되고 이 속에서 디지털 데이터를 근간으로 각종 구입, 판매 그리고 대금 지불이 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 환경에서 가장 중요한 것은 지불 방법에 관한 문제로 기존의 지불 방법으로는 한계가 발생하게 된다. 인터넷 환경에 적합한 새로운 지불 방법이 요구되고 있으며 그 해결책으로서 전자화폐(Electronic Cash)가 등장하게 되었다. 전자화폐는 기존의 화폐를 대신하여 인터넷상의 전자상거래(Electronic Commerce)에서 사용되고 있으며, 실물 화폐와 더불어 중요한 지불 수단으로 등장하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 전자지불 수단을 비교, 분석하여 새로운 지불시스템인 혼합형 전자지불 시스템을 제시하고 구체적 활용에 대해 살펴보고자 한다.

Region-based H.263 Video Codec with Effective Rate Control Algorithm for Low VBR Video

  • A region-based video codec based on the H.263+ standard is examined and its associated novel rate control scheme is proposed in this work. The region-based coding scheme is a hybrid method that consists of the traditional block DCT coding and the object-based coding. Basically, we adopt H.263+ as the platform, and develop a fast macroblock-based segmentation method to implement the region-based video codec. The proposed rate control solution includes rate control in three levels: encoding frame selection, frame-layer rate control and macroblock-layer rate control. The goal is to enhance the visual quality of decoded frames at low bit rates. The efficiency of proposed rate control scheme applied to the region-based video codes is demonstrated via several typical test sequences.
