  • Usual experimental adsorption isotherms as a function of relative humidity were constructed from adsorbed water contents in soils, which were kept more than 2 days in vacuum desiccators with constant humidities controlled by sulfuric acids of various concentrations. From the experimental data, the adsorption surface areas were calculated on the basis of the existing adsorption theory, such as Langmuir, BET, and Aranovich. Based on the Gibbs function describing chemical potential of perfect gas, the relative humidities in the desiccators were transformed into their chemical potentials, which were assumed to be the same as the potentials of equilibratedly adsorbed water in soils. Moreover, the water potentials were again transformed into the equivalent capillary pressures, heads of capillary rise, and equivalent radius of capillary pores, on the basis of Laplace equation for surface tension pressure of spherical bubbles in water. Adsorption quantity distributions were calculated on the profile of chemical potentials of the adsorbed water, equivalent adsorption and/or capillary pressures, and equivalent capillary radius. The suggested theories were proved through its application for the prediction of temperature rise of sulfuric acid due to hydration heat. Adsorption heat calculated on the basis of the potential difference was dependant on various factors, such as surface area, equilibrium constants in Langumuir, BET, etc.

  • The water-vapor sorption isotherms of viscose rayon and of modified viscose rayon were studied to elucidate the change of sorptivity by the DMDHEU resin finish. To determine the sorption isotherms, moisture regains of the samples were measured at various humidities. The sorption isotherms were determined by the BET and GAB multilayer adsorption theories. The adsorption isotherm of the starting rayon was Brunauer Type II while with increasing resin content those of the DMDHEU-treated rayon became progressively more like Type IV. The DMDHEU-treated samples appeared to be hydrophilic due to the hydrophilicity of DMDHEU although moisture regains at higher humidities markedly decreased because of an impediment in swelling by crosslinkings. The $W_{m}$ value and surface area of crosslinked samples increased with increasing resin content. VR-R-6 which was the most heavily crosslinked viscose rayon had the highest $W_{m}$ and surface area values among all the samples. Relative sorption hysteresis was decreased as humidity increased for all samples. The untreated viscose rayon appeared to have a higher value than the DMDHEU-treated rayon.

  • To investigate the effect of storage humidity on the textural characteristics of crackers, their crispness and tenderness were measured by sensory and instrumental methods. Domestic cracker samples stored for 1 and 3 weeks at 4 different relative humidities of 23, 31, 51 and 79% showed the decrease in crispness intensity as the humidity increased while storage period did not affect their textural characteristics. When domestic and imported cracker samples were stored for 1 and 3 weeks at relative humidities of 31% and 79%, there was no significant difference in their textural characteristics.

  • Hysteresis Loops explaining relationship between E.M.C. and relative humidities of some commercial woods grown in Korea which have not been inspected were studied. Because of Hysteresis Loops are differently constructed among species, the loop of each species is necessary to plot in order to apply for seasoning of wood directly. Therefore relationship between E.M.C. and relative humidities, and Hysteresis Loops were inspected and compaired between species. Small sized ($3{\times}3{\times}1.3cm$) twenty pieces of wood blocks for each species were taken from log which cut few years ago and already attained air dry condition. Five relative humidity conditions (9, 32, 58, 82 and 91%) were controlled to keep constant in the cabinet under temperature $25^{\circ}C$. According to the results, it is concluded that there are considerable differences on the E.M.C. among two types of sorption, eight species and five different relative humidity conditions. Adsorption and desorption curves are showing characteristic Sigmeid Curves and desorption curves always are on the adsorption curves at all compaired species. Average hysteresis ratio is 0.75, the constructed loops of tested species are showing open hysteresis generally and flatten loop constructions of Qnerets aemitissima and Robinia pseudoaeaeia of hard wood species than other soft wood are considered to be established by differences of stability between hard and soft wood.

  • In order to control indoor air quality and save energy, it is needed to install a suitable ventilation system equipped with heat exchanger for heat recovery. Paper heat exchanger can recover $50{\sim}70%$ of the enthalpy difference between supply and exhaust air. The purpose of this research is to obtain the experimental correlations for the friction factor, heat transfer coefficient, mass transfer coefficient and permeance of paper heat exchanger, which can be used to predict the performance of the paper heat exchanger. Pressure drops at various velocities, and sensible and latent heat transfer rates at various dry-bulb temperatures, relative humidities and specific humidities are measured to derive experimental correlations. The results of prediction using correlations show fairly good agreement with the experimental data obtained in the actual operating conditions.

  • The contents of ginseng saponins in white ginseng, particularly ginsenoside $-Rb_1$, -Rc, -Re, and -Rg, were greatly decreased during the storage at high relative humidities. The contents of glucose and fructose were initially increased and thereafter decreased during the storage at 75-96% R.H., but successively increased during the storage at relative humidifies below 67%. The content of sucrose was decreased during storage of white ginseng and the rate of change was accelerated at the relative humidities higher than 75% R.H..

  • A study was designed to investigate the sorption characteristics of binary mixtures of NaCl and sucrose or glucose stored at various relative humidities ranging from 46% to 92%. At low relative humidity below RH 65%, the sorption equilibrium was easily achieved, whereas at higher relative humidity values over 73%, all of the mixtures tended to cintinously absorb moisture with increase in storage time. A linear equation of log $({\frac{dw}{dt}})$ = a log(t) + log(b) was found to be valid between the sorption rate and storage time with respect to storage humidities. In sucrose-NaCl mixture, the slope showed a increasing tendency as the percentage of NaCl increased in the mixture, while that of glucose-NaCl mixture failed to show a definite trend. Plateaus were obtained when the amount of water absorbed was plotted on the X axis and the percent composition of mixture on the Y axis at different storage time. The shape of plateau was varied with respect to the kind of sugar-NaCl mixture, composition of the mixture and relative humidities. A linearity was found between log(1-Aw) and the amount of water absorbed over the Aw range 0.73-0.92 and the slope was affected by the kind and composition of sugar-NaCl mixtures.

  • Nine polymorphic modifications of doxazosin mesylate have been obtained by recrystallization in organic solvents under variable conditions. Different polymorphs of doxazosin mesylate were characterized by powder X-ray crystallography diffractometry (PXRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). Transformation of Form 1 and Form 2 was not occurred in three relative humidities ($0\%$, $51\%$, and $99\%$) at 20$\pm$0.5 for 30 days.

  • This paper presents the heating performance characteristics of the air source heat pump with air to water type. The heating capacity, COP, P-h diagram were measured at various operating conditions, air-side temperatures, relative humidities, and inlet/outlet water temperature under the standard heating condition of KS B 6275. The experimental data for the heat pump were measured using the air-enthalpy calorimeter and the constant temperature water bath. As the air-side temperature increases, the heating capacity and COP increase. The effect of the air-side relative humidities on the heat pump performance is insignificant. The heat pump performance on inlet and outlet water temperatures and air-side temperatures(-7, -11, $-15^{\circ}C$) were studied. Heating capacity and COP increased about 27~39% with the air-side temperature increasing. Enthalpy between the front and the rear of condenser decreased about 6% by increasing of the inlet water temperature. These results can be utilized in the design of the air source heat pump system with air to water type.

  • An enthalpy exchanger in which heat and moisture transfer occur between the indoor and outdoor air operates at various outdoor conditions. In this study, the effect of the outdoor-air temperature and humidity on the performance of an enthalpy exchanger was experimentally investigated. An apparatus was specially-made to accurately measure the incoming and outgoing dry- and wet-bulb air temperatures as well as the flow rates. Tests were conducted in constant-temperature and constant-humidity chambers at different outdoor temperatures and humidities. It is shown that the effectiveness of latent-heat exchange increases as the relative humidity increases; further, this effect exhibited minimal dependence on the absolute humidity. However, the effectiveness of sensible-heat exchange is independent of both temperature and humidity
