This study is about saliva from a GIGONG's point of view, it's importance, and it's funtion that recently medical world proved. And here is GIGONG training with saliva. The results were summarized as follows. 1. It is detected that saliva have function to prevent symptoms of senility and have effect of an $anti{\sim}cancer$ medically in recent years. So it is said that science proved narrowly that so called a predecessor speak of salive interms of high praise and they already experienced. 2. Similar substance to saliva exist in human body besides nature food, but human body have materials that deal with all situation to occur from every kind of environment and disease. And exactly saliva is an example of it. 3. We cannot turn back sweat, blood, tears and sperm again that is out of human body once, but we can swallow again only saliva. Therefore, we must experience training that swallow saliva to make us healthy by ourselves, and we don't have to commit a foolish act to cough up saliva at random that a predecessor speak of in terms of high praise, and to be second to JUNG(精). 4. Saliva is a kind of antibody or hormone, so I think that we need to make a study of using saliva with a GUIGONG that is an example of way to strengthen immunity of human body.
Nitrite, one of the precursors of dimethylnitrosamine distributes widely in natural foods and also used as a color fixative in meat products. In this paper Nitrites and Nitrates contents in Korean-Kimchi and Human Saliva were as follows. (1) pH: $pH:\;3.8{\sim}5.8$(in Korean-Kimchi soup) (2) NaCl: $1.5{\sim}3.1%$(in Korean-Kimchi soup) (3) Acidity: $0.38{\sim}0.62%$(in Korean-Kimchi soup) (4) $NO_2-$$0.25{\sim}0.68ppm$ (in Korean-Kimchi) $1.9{\sim}5.0ppm$ (in Human Saliva) (5) $NO_3-$$35.0{\sim}92.0ppm$ (in Korean-Kimchi) $7.6{\sim}28.0ppm$ (in Human Saliva) These results showed low contents in Korean-Kimchi and Human Saliva.

While saliva can be considered as good biological fluid for monitoring biomarkers due to many advantages including its communication with blood and the non-invasive nature during its sampling, its applications to that purpose is still limited. As a part of efforts to expand the applications of saliva to the protein biomarker research, we carried out global absolute quantitation of proteins in human whole saliva (WS) by bottom-up proteomics techniques mainly based on nLC-Q-IMS-TOF employing $MS^E$. From the analyses of a pooled WS sample collected from 22 healthy Korean volunteers, 93 proteins ranging from $5.89{\times}10^1ng/mL$ (immunoglobulin heavy chain) to $1.59{\times}10^4ng/mL$ (${\alpha}-amylase$ 1) were confirmed. For the validation of the present results, human serum albumin in the same sample was quantitated by ELISA and its result was compared with that from the nLC-Q-IMS-TOF study. As a result, there was no significant difference between two results from individual approaches ($1.18{\times}10^4{\pm}0.03{\times}10^4 ng/mL$ from nLC-Q-IMS-TOF experiments vs. $1.23{\times}10^4{\pm}0.07{\times}10^4ng/mL$ from ELISA experiments, n=3, p=0.309). To our knowledge, this is the first global absolute quantitation of proteins in human whole saliva and information from the present study can be widely used as the first level reference for the discovery of new protein biomarkers from human whole saliva as well as for quantitative applications of human whole saliva proteins.
Destruction of oral soft and hard tissues and resulting problems seriously affect the life quality of xerostomic patients. Although artificial saliva is the only regimen for xerostomic patients with totally abolished salivary glands, currently available artificial salivas give restricted satisfaction to patients. The purpose of this study was to contribute to the development of ideal artificial saliva through comparing viscosity and wettability between CMC solutions and human saliva. Commercially-available CMC is dissolved in simulated salivary buffer (SSB) and distilled deionized water (DDW). Various properties of human whole saliva, human glandular saliva, and a CMC-based saliva substitutes known as Salivart and Moi-Stir were compared with those of CMC solutions. Viscosity was measured with a cone-and-plate digital viscometer at six different shear rates, while wettability on acrylic resin and Co-Cr alloy was determined by the contact angle. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The viscosity of CMC solutions was proportional to CMC concentration, with 0.5% CMC solution displaying similar viscosity to stimulated whole saliva. Where as a decrease in contact angle was found with increasing CMC concentration. 2. The viscosity of human saliva was found to be inversely proportional to shear rate, a non-Newtonian (pseudoplastic) trait of biological fluids. The mean viscosity values at various shear rates increased as follows: stimulated parotid saliva, stimulated whole saliva, unstimulated whole saliva, stimulated submandibular-sublingual saliva. 3. Contact angles of human saliva on the tested solid phases were inversely correlated with viscosity, namely decreasing in the order stimulated parotid saliva, stimulated whole saliva, unstimulated whole saliva, stimulated submandibular-sublingual saliva. 4. Boiled CMC dissolved in SSB (CMC-SSB) had a lower viscosity than CMC-SSB (P < 0.01 at shear rate of $90s^{-1}$). 5. For human saliva, contact angles on acrylic resin were significantly lower than those on Co-Cr alloy (P < 0.01). 6. Comparing CMC solutions with human saliva, the contact angles between acrylic resin and human saliva solutions were significantly lower than those between acrylic resin and CMC solutions, including Salivart and Moi-Stir (P <0.01). The effectiveness of CMC solutions in terms of their rheological properties was objectively confirmed, indicating a vital role for CMC in the development of effective salivary substitutes.
The bacterial compositions between the dental unit water system and human saliva were characterized and compared by direct sequence analysis of 16S rDNA clone libraries. Based on the species richness estimation, bacterial diversity in the dental unit water system (DUW) was more diverse than that of the human saliva (HS). The Chaol estimates of species richness in HS and DUW samples were 12.0 and 72.4, respectively. The total numbers of OTUs observed in the combined libraries accounted for 83% (HS) and 59% (DUW) of the Chaol diversity estimate as defined at the 80% similarity threshold. Based on the sequence analysis, the phylum Proteobacteria was the major group in both clone libraries at phylum level. DUW clone library contained 80.0% Proteobacteria, 8.0% Bacteroides, 4.0% Nitrospira, 4.0% Firmicutes, 2.0% Planctomycetes and 2.0% Acidobacteria. On the other hand, human saliva (HS) clone library contained 55.5% Proteobacteria, 36.1% Firmicutes and 8.4% Bacteroides. The majority of bacteria identified belonged to phylum Proteobacteria in both samples. In dental unit water system (DUW), Alphaproteobacteria was detected as the major group. There was no evidence of the bacterial contamination due to a dental treatment. Most sequences were related to microorganisms derived from biofilm in oligotrophic environments.
To obtain primary idea on oral bacterium species that are generally present in periodotally healthy Koreans, the oral bacterial flora in the saliva of four periodontally healthy Koreans at different ages (5, 32, 35, 65) was investigated in this study. For this investigation, 16S rRNA gene clone libraries were generated from the saliva of the four healthy Koreans, and 50 clones were randomly selected from each saliva clone library and sequenced. Totally, 37 different kinds of bacterial 16S rRNA gene sequences were identified based on sequence homology search through GenBank database. The 37 kinds of saliva clone sequences were classified to 14 genera and 2 uncultured and 1 unidentified bacteria. Among the 14 identified genera, Streptococcus, Prevotella, and Veillollella were common genera, and Streptococcus was dominant genus that accounted for 7 different species. Among the seven Streptococcus species, S. salivarius appeared as the most common species. More numbers of species belonging to the genera Streptococcus and Prevotella was present in saliva from ages 32 and 35. While saliva from ages 5 and 65 showed more numbers of species belonging to the genera Rothia, including potential pathogenic species. Overall, saliva of a young child and a senior showed higher bacterial diversity than that of young adults.
It has been assumed that nitrite, one of the precursor of N-nitrosamine, in human saliva must have been formed from salivary nitrate through the action of microorganism in the oral cavity. In this paper, we have tested the concentration of nitrite and nitrate in human saliva and the degrees of nitrate reduction by oral microflora and identified some bacteria which were able to reduce nitrate. The concentration of nitrite and nitrate was 1.7~9.5ppm and 9.0~28.5ppm respectively. The numbers of total bacteria and nitrate reducing bacteria in four korean human saliva sample were 15~63${\times}10^8$ CFU and 1.0~6.0${\times}10^8$ CFU and the main nitrate reducing bacteria were Streptococcus uberis which was presented in large quantities and showed remarkable reductive activity. Lastly, we knowed that N-dimethylnitrosamine was formed by the reaction between dimethylamine and nitrite in the presence of St. uberis in vitro.

Xylitol is well-known to have an anti-caries effect by inhibiting the replication of cariogenic bacteria. In addition, xylitol enhances saliva secretion. However, the precise molecular mechanism of xylitol on saliva secretion is yet to be elucidated. Thus, in this study, we aimed to investigate the stimulatory effect of xylitol on saliva secretion and to further evaluate the involvement of xylitol in muscarinic type 3 receptor (M3R) signaling. For determining these effects, we measured the saliva flow rate following xylitol treatment in healthy individuals and patients with dry mouth. We further tested the effects of xylitol on M3R signaling in human salivary gland (HSG) cells using real-time quantitative reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, immunoblotting, and immunostaining. Xylitol candy significantly increased the salivary flow rate and intracellular calcium release in HSG cells via the M3R signaling pathway. In addition, the expressions of M3R and aquaporin 5 were induced by xylitol treatment. Lastly, we investigated the distribution of M3R and aquaporin 5 in HSG cells. Xylitol was found to activate M3R, thereby inducing increases in $Ca^{2+}$ concentration. Stimulation of the muscarinic receptor induced by xylitol activated the internalization of M3R and subsequent trafficking of aquaporin 5. Taken together, these findings suggest a molecular mechanism for secretory effects of xylitol on salivary epithelial cells.
"Jinaik(津液)" is essential nutritious body fluid for human to be alive, and it can be divided various kinds according to it's location, character, and function. Five Fluids -sweat, snivel(mucus), slobber(saliva), tear, spittle(saliva)- are kinds of "Jinaik(津液)", and all of them belong to kidney. They are also related with five organs, such as sweat belongs to heart, snivel(mucus) belongs to lung, slobber(saliva) belongs to spleen, tear belongs to liver, spittle(saliva) belongs to kidney. We can find out five organs' physiological and pathological conditions by means of observations on the Five Fluids. Five organs' function comes out upper seven openings -two eyes two ears, nose, mouth and tongue. The Five Fluids provide all the nutrition upper seven openings need, so they can help for human to hear, see, smell, and taste properly.
Xerostomia is caused by organic or functional changes affecting the salivary system at different levels. Patients suffering from xerostomia may also complain of an oral burning sensation, ulceration or soreness, difficulty in swallowing, and poor denture retention. And pilocarpine is administered orally to induce salivary secretion. In Seoul National University Hospital(SNUH) pharmacy, the pilocarpine chewing tablets are prepared and supplied to patients of xerostomia in request of the dental hospital in SNUH. And we tested the salivary flow induction and the dissolution patterns of these products in saliva by a double-blind, sequential cross-over trials to eight healthy human volunteers with placebo. The pilocarpine chewing tablet contained 5 mg of pilocarpine, and placebo consisted of same materials as test drug, but didn't contain pilocarpine. In vivo experiment, all subjects were instructed to chew as 60-80 times/min. Mixed saliva was collected in the ranges of intervals such as 0-2, 2-5, 5-10, 10-15, 15-20, 20-30, 30-45 and 45-60 min after pilocarpine chewing tablet or placebo administration. Saliva volume was measured in each collecting time interval, and saliva pilocarpine concentrations were determined by reversed phase HPLC. The 82.5 percent $(4.13{\pm}0.69\;mg)$ of pilocarpine was extracted from chewing tablets during mastication of 60-80 times per minute for 60 minutes. Among these dissolved amounts, 90 percent was extracted within 20 minutes. The salivary flow rates were more increased in a group who administered pilocarpine chewing tablet at the interval of 5-10, 10-15, 20-30 and 45-60 min rather than a placebo-group, but only extracted amount of pilocarpine at 45-60 min interval is significanly different between two groups (p<0.05). But total amounts of saliva secreted for 1 hour in two group-pilocarpine and placebo treated- were $46.36{\pm}9.72\;ml\;and\;39.09{\pm}7.81\;ml$, respectively, and were not significantly different between two groups.
