Almost all companies have paid much attention to the safety management ranging from maintenance to operation even at the stage of designing in order to prevent accidents, but fatal accidents continue to increase throughout the world. In particular, it is essential to systematically prevent such fatal accidents sa fire, explosion or leakage of toxic gas at factories in order to not only protect economic losses and environmental pollution. In addition, HRA may be used to detect the human errors which may cause accidents or trace back to any mistake on the part of workers. This work focuses on the coincidence of human error and mechanical failure for management of human error, and on some important performance shaping factors to propose a method for improving safety effectively of the process industries.
To get the robust and reliable input command, we designed shaping function for target tracking system with commander's handle. Input signals of the commander's handle are generated by human operator. It is response of the human to reduce the error between target and gun. But, tracking error while operator aim a moving target manually gives poor system performance. Input noise, particularly, affects hit accuracy as the system performance. We proposed the design method of input command shaping to reduce the Input noise and to improve the operation ability and convenience. We performed the experiments with combat vehicle, example of Target Tracking System, to show the proposed method is efficient and practical.

Emotion recognition plays an important role in the research area of human-computer interaction, and it allows a more natural and more human-like communication between humans and computer. Most of previous work on emotion recognition focused on extracting emotions from face, speech or EEG information separately. Therefore, a novel approach is presented in this paper, including face, speech and EEG, to recognize the human emotion. The individual matching scores obtained from face, speech, and EEG are combined using a weighted-summation operation, and the fused-score is utilized to classify the human emotion. In the experiment results, the proposed approach gives an improvement of more than 18.64% when compared to the most successful unimodal approach, and also provides better performance compared to approaches integrating two modalities each other. From these results, we confirmed that the proposed approach achieved a significant performance improvement and the proposed method was very effective.
There may be several factors influencing the safety performance of railway safety personnel. These include human psychological and physiological states, physical conditions about working environment, and workers' stress and fatigue etc. Some researches indicate that human personality is close connection with human error. This study focuses on the workers' personality which is one of psychological traits of railway safety personnel. Thus, we survey and analyze it for railway safety personnel-locomotive engineers, station employees, and train commanders-in Korean railway company. Through the survey that is designed to investigate eight safety personality factors from the questionnaires composed of seventy eight questions, we study the workers' personality factors related to railway safety according to affiliated offices, operations, age, and working years. Finally, after categorizing survey results into sixty six patterns, we explain an example to show a corresponding worker to the pattern result.
Probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) has improved its elemental technologies used for assessing external events since the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Accident in 2011. HRA needs to be improved for analyzing tasks performed under extreme conditions (e.g., different actors responding to external events or performing operations using portable mitigation equipment). To make these improvements, it is essential to understand plant-specific and scenario-specific conditions that affect human performance. The Nuclear Risk Research Center (NRRC) of the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI) has developed an HRA guide that compiles qualitative analysis methods for collecting plant-specific and scenario-specific conditions that affect human performance into "narratives," reflecting the latest research trends, and models for analysis of tasks under extreme conditions.
Reliable human performance is a prerequisite in securing the safety of complicated process systems such as nuclear power plants. However, the amount of available knowledge that can explain why operators deviate from an expected performance level is so small because of the infrequency of real accidents. Therefore, in this study, a database that contains a set of useful information extracted from simulated emergencies was developed in order to provide important clues for understanding the change of operators' performance under stressful conditions (i.e., real accidents). The database was developed under Microsoft Windows TM environment using Microsoft Access $97^{TM}$ and Microsoft Visual Basic $6.0^{TM}$. In the database, operators' performance data obtained from the analysis of over 100 audio-visual records for simulated emergencies were stored using twenty kinds of distinctive data fields. A total of ten kinds of operators' performance data are available from the developed database. Although it is still difficult to predict operators' performance under stressful conditions based on the results of simulated emergencies, simulation studies remain the most feasible way to scrutinize performance. Accordingly, it is expected that the performance data of this study will provide a concrete foundation for understanding the change of operators' performance in emergency situations.

Visual search in an unstructured search field is a fruitful research area for computational modeling. Search models that describe relationship between search time and probability of target detection have been used for prediction of human search performance and provision of ideal goals for search training. Until recently, however, most of models were focused on detecting a single target in a search field, although, in practice, a search field includes multiple targets and search models for multiple targets may differ from search models for a single target. This study proposed a random search model for multiple targets, generalizing a random search model for a single target which is the most typical search model. To test this model, human search data were collected and compared with the model. This model well predicted human performance in visual search for multiple targets. This paper also proposed how to determine optimal stopping time in multiple-target search.

This study investigated the flame retardant performance of developed four types of flame retardant chemicals (FRC), FRC-A, B, C and D. Four kinds of soft wood species, Sugi (Cryptomeria), Spruce (Picea abies), Hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa) and Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis), were used. The wood specimens were treated by spreading the FRC on the surface with different quantities, 30, 50, 70, 90, 110 g/$m^2$, respectively. The charred area, charred length, after flame time and after glow time were tested. And their suitabilities as incombustible materials were evaluated. The specimen treated by FRC-D showed better incombustible properties than others, even though with lower quantity. Therefore it is supposed that the FRC-D could be able to be applied on the cultural heritage, such as Korean wooden house for preventing fire.
This paper provides a systematic way of integrating human intelligence and autonomous precision of robots to achieve the highest possible performance of a cooperating robot system. Adjustable autonomy, which deals with the combination of human and robotic skills, has the potential to bridge the gap which leaves many tasks suited to robotics beyond the reach of existing technology. Especially we will show that relevant human assistance or intervention will increase system performance by improving the exception handling capability, simplifying autonomous operation, and boosting speed and reliability. To support the usefulness of our scheme, a series of experiments were conducted with three cooperating robots which work together to dock both ends of a long suspended beam into stanchions.
