  • The dimensions of the human body vary by age, sex, and race. The internal structure and outer dimensions of a body exposed to an electromagnetic field is important for accurate dosimetry. The average physical size of Korean adult males between the ages 18 to 24 was investigated, and a male volunteer was selected whose physical condition is within the physical standards, ${\pm}5%$. Magnetic resonance images and partially computerized tomography images of the volunteer were acquired. The intervals between the transverse images were 1 mm for the head and 3 mm for the rest of the body. About 30 different tissues were manually classified by an anatomist on the raw images, and the segmented images were implemented in the form of a text file appropriate for numerical formulation.

  • In global apparel product development, flat is one of the most important key factor for technical design communication. Proportionally correct flats based on correct scaled human body figures are imperative to be successful in the fashion business. In this study the researchers were to develop body templates for flats for Korean women body types using data from 'Size Korea 2004 (5th)', which is a Korean government apparel sizing project to analyze women's body measurements (age range 7-49). We measured 13 height measurements, 6 width measurements, 8 circumference measurements, 6 length measurements, 3 angle measurements and 5 body measurements. A body figure (i.e., schema) for each group was created by Pattern Design Software (PAD) System 4.1. Muscle was added to the schema created by Adobe Illustrator to ensure a better visualization and convenience for industry uses for flats. Developed body figure template of representative type had the largest difference in height level compared to exiting figures. It had a bigger head, lower crotch level, and longer crotch depth and hip length than existing figures.

  • The ultimate success of commercial applications of body scan data in the apparel industry will be consumers' substantial applications such as automated custom fit, size prediction, virtual try-on, personal shopper services (Loker, S. et al., 2004). In this study, we surveyed fifty consumers and forty-seven apparel industry workers about their recognition and interest in 3D body scanning and virtual try-on. The results are as follows: 55% of the apparel industry workers has recognized 3D body scanning as a convenient technology, but do not know how to use it. To the questions regarding virtual try-on, 53% of the workers give positive answers. The consumers have a more positive view on virtual try-on than the workers do. The workers predict that the application of 3D body scan technology to the apparel industry could offer customers helpful information in their clothing selection by using virtual images of various size and style, and increase mass production of MTM(Made-To-Measure). The answers from the male consumers in their twenties indicate that virtual try-on is useful by 88% on offline shopping and by 100% on online shopping. 53% of the workers and 68% of the consumers gave answers that just by virtual try-on they could judge the quality of the apparel products and purchase them. Absolutely 3D virtual try-on is an effective tool for online shoppers. 85% of the workers anticipate applications of the 3D body scanning also in 'body measurement', 'custom pattern development' as well as 'virtual try-on' in the near future. With the positive reactions and the stimulating interests in virtual try-on, the conditions of contemporary world encourage more active researches and wide usages of the technology in apparel industry.

  • This study aimed to enhance the design of cropped t-shirts to improve fit satisfaction among women in their 20s by tailoring the t-shirts to diverse body types. Body types were categorized using Size Korea's 8th Human Body Measurement Data, and statistical analysis was conducted based on the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (version 26.0). This study also reviewed the literature on t-shirts and fit, the application of pattern and design improvements for different body types, verifying fit and size for each body type, and applying virtual fit effects using geometric forms. Frequency analysis and non-parametric verification were conducted using the Friedman test. The results showed that t-shirts with a horizontal rectangular shape was an effective design and that t-shirts with an inverted triangular structure also had a positive effect. In contrast, square t-shirts exhibited minimal effectiveness. These findings are expected to contribute to the consideration of customized shapes according to body type in t-shirt design. Research on customized virtual cropped t-shirts reflecting various body types can expand fit satisfaction studies, particularly amid the increasing trend of online shopping.

  • The purpose of this treatise is to study external form and internal meaning of minimal expression fashion which appeared as a major stream in modern fashion trends to understand one aspect of modernism in fashion and also to gain insight into internal value of human beings through fashion. The results can be summarized as follows : Firstly , minimalism is a trend in art attempting to seek essence of the object by presenting simple and disciplined expressions by minimal formative means and minimal production process. Secondly, minimal expression in fashion means seeking simplicity an dpurity by using minimum design elements and minimal productive process. Thirdly, external from of minimal expression fashion can be created through application of following minimal expression techniques. 1. Minimal expression techniques in terms of line mean smooth curve flowing along body contours, straight lines of diagonal lines into desciplined silhouette or rendering internal contour lines. 2. Minimum expression techniques in terms of forms mean forms of smooth curves flowing along boyd or forms with simple geometric forms from qualitative aspects, In terms of volume it means quest for essence of pure body itself by revealing body as it is by minimizing the size of dress or its area and herein is contained using simple geometric pattern or utilizing textiles without any patterns.3. Minimal expression techniques by colors mean simple colors such as primary colors, colors without clear distinctions or natural colors and in terms of quantity it means quest for one color within one item of dress or combination of each items when getting dressed. 4. Minimal expression techniques in terms of fabrics mean fabrics with simple surfaced. In terms of quantity it means quest for essence of tight fitting thin textiles to human body or using transparent materials to human body thus exposing body contours as it is. 5. • Human actions can be recognized from depth sequences. In the proposed algorithm, we initially construct depth, motion maps (DMM) by projecting each depth frame onto three orthogonal Cartesian planes and add the motion energy for each view. The body part of the action (BPoA) is calculated by using bounding box with an optimal window size based on maximum spatial and temporal changes for each DMM. Furthermore, feature vector is constructed by using BPoA for each human action view. In this paper, we employed an ensemble based learning approach called Rotation Forest to recognize different actions Experimental results show that proposed method has significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on Microsoft Research (MSR) Action 3D and MSR DailyActivity3D dataset.

  • The study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary calcium and soy isoflavone on body fat and lipid metabolism in high fat-induced obesity. Four week old female C57/BL6J mice, known as a good model of diet-induced obesity, were fed low Ca and high fat diet for 6 weeks. After induced obesity, mice were divided into six groups according to diets varying calcium contents (0.1 or 1.5%) and genistein contents (0 or 500 or 1,000 ppm). Body weight, fat pad (perirenal fat and parameterial fat), adipocyte size, serum total lipid and total cholesterol were significantly decreased by both high Ca intake and genistein supplementation. However, the effect of genistein supplementation showed in low Ca-fed groups. Serum LDL-cholesterol and TG were significantly decreased by high Ca intake and genistein supplementation, respectively. In liver, lipogenic enzymes (fatty acid synthase and malic enzyme) activity and TG were significantly decreased by both high Ca intake and genistein supplementation. This inhibitory effect of genistein on lipogenic enzymes showed in low Ca-fed groups. But liver total cholesterol and total lipid were significantly decreased by high Ca intake and genistein supplementation, respectively. Fecal excretion of total lipid, total cholesterol and TG were significantly increased by high Ca intake, not by genistein supplementation. In conclusion, high calcium intake and genistein supplement may be beneficial for suppression of obesity through direct anti-adipogenesis by decreasing fat weight and size and indirect anti-lipo-genesis by inhibiting lipogenic enzymes activity and improving lipid profile.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental information for standardization of 3D body measurement. This research analyzes errors occurring in the process of extracting body size from 3D body scan data. First, as a result of analyzing basic state of the 3D body scanner's calibration, the point number of each section was almost the same, while the right and left as well as the front and back coordinates of the center of gravity are not, showing unstable data. Nevertheless, the latter does not influence on the size of cylinder such as width and circumference. Next, we analyzed point coordinates variations of scan data on a mannequin nude by life casting. The result was great deflection in case of complicated or horizontal sections including the reference point beyond proper distance from centers of four cameras. In case of the mannequin's size, accuracy proves comparatively high in that measurement errors in height, width, depth, and length dimension occurred all within allowable errors, only except chest depth, while there were a lot of measurement errors in a circumference dimension. Secondly, analysis of accuracy of automatic extraction identification program algorithm presented that a semi-automatic measurement program is better than an automatic measurement program. While both of them ate very acute in parts related to crotch, they are not in armpit related parts. Therefore, in extracting of human body size from 3D scan data, what really matters seems to parts related to armpits.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a size information providing model which is easy recognition and utilization for customer. This study also implemented web page to apply the size-informational model. Web page implemented using Apache Web Server and JAVA client-side scripting. Research result on the actual condition of fashion electronic commerce, most of the firms are used the old named same with period of 1980. On the same named-code, they are used different sizing systems by firms or items. Size interval is used 2~5 cm, different by firms. In the size information, is provided only named-code(55, 66 etc.) or garment size, and is confusing whether the marked is body size or garment size. Many of the marked size information were wrong. The sizing system of KS K5001(2009) is not used well. These problems are increased a lose customer and firm by return, exchange, mending-cost, stock, etc. Therefore, the problems should be improved by providing correct and detailed information of size and garment, as well as standardization of sizing systems based on KS K5001.
