  • 8SQAM(8-state Superposed Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) being a new modem technique for use in power and bandwidth limited digital communication system generates output signals which have a mか and continuous phase transition and a reduced envelope fluctuation by keeping correlation between amplitudes and phases of two subsequent symbols. Also, 8SQAM signal is free of inter-symbol interference(ISI), and has a compact power spectrum. Accordingly 8SQAM, as compared with a conventional 8PSK, is influenced a little by inter-modulation(IM), inter-symbol interference(ISI) and adjacent channel interference(ACI) in a nonlinearly amplified multi-channel(SCPC-FDMA) environment. In this paper, the performance of 8SQAM system in a nonlinearly amplified multi-channel interference environment is analyzed via computer simulation The simulation result shows that 8SQAM outperforms 8PSK with roll-off value of $\alpha$ = 0.3 by 2.7dB in CNR to maintain BER=1$\times$10$^{-4}$ when input back-off(IBO) of HPA is 1dB and channel space is 41.7% of the data bit rate(i.e., spectral efficiency = 2.40b/s/Hz).

  • A new Modem technique - 8SQAM(8-state Superposed Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) - for use in power and bandwidth limited digital communication system is proposed. 8SQAM is free of inter-symbol interference(ISI) and generates output signals which have a smooth and continuous phase transition and a reduced envelope fluctuation by keeping correlation between amplitudes and phases of two subsequent symbols. Accordingly, 8SQAM, as compared with a conventional 8PSK, is influenced a little by ISI and inter-modulation(IM) caused by nonlinear distortions. In this paper, the performance of the 8SQAM system, in a nonlinearly amplified channel impaired by additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN), ISI and IM, is analyzed via computer simulation. The simulation result shows that 8SQAM outperforms 8PSK with roll-off value of $\alpha$=0.25 by 2.5dB in CNR to maintain BER=1$\times$10$^{-4}$ when input back-off(IBO) of HPA is 3dB.

  • Acupuncture therapy has demonstrated efficacy in several clinical areas, and of these areas the understanding of pain has progressed immensely in the last two decades. The underlying mechanisms of acupuncture in general and the analgesic effect in particular are still not clearly delineated. The leading hypothesis include the effects of local stimulation, neuronal gating, release of endogenous opiates, and the placebo effect. Accumulating evidence suggests that the central nervous system(CNS) is essential for the processing of these effects, via its modulation of the autonomic nervous system, neuro-immune system, and hormonal regulation. These processes tap into basic survival mechanisms. As such, understanding the effects of acupuncture within a neuroscience-based framework becomes vital. We propose a model which incorporates the stress-induced hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis(HPA-axis) model of Akil et al., the cholinergic anti-inflamatory observations of Tracey et al., and Petrovic et al.

  • It has been reported that stressful events in early life influence behavior in adulthood and are associated with different psychiatric disorders, such as major depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorder. Maternal separation (MS) is a representative animal model for reproducing childhood stress. It is used as an animal model for depression, and has well-known effects, such as increasing anxiety behavior and causing abnormalities in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. This study investigated the effect of MS on anxiety or aggression-like behavior and the number of GABAergic neurons in the hippocampus. Mice were separated from their dams for four hours per day for 19 d from postnatal day two. Elevated plus maze (EPM) test, resident-intruder (RI) test, and counted glutamic acid decarboxylase 67 (GAD67) or parvalbumin (PV) positive cells in the hippocampus were executed using immunohistochemistry. The maternal segregation group exhibited increased anxiety and aggression in the EPM test and the RI test. GAD67-positive neurons were increased in the hippocampal regions we observed: dentate gyrus (DG), CA3, CA1, subiculum, presubiculum, and parasubiculum. PV-positive neurons were increased in the DG, CA3, presubiculum, and parasubiculum. Consistent with behavioral changes, corticosterone was increased in the MS group, suggesting that the behavioral changes induced by MS were expressed through the effect on the HPA axis. Altogether, MS alters anxiety and aggression levels, possibly through alteration of cytoarchitecture and output of the ventral hippocampus that induces the dysfunction of the HPA axis.

  • This paper presents the development of the 2-mode variable gain high power amplifier for a transmitter of INMARSAT-M operating at L-band(1626.5-1646.5 MHz). This SSPA(Solid State Power Amplifier) is amplified 42 dBm in high power mode and 36 dBm in low power mode for INMARSAT-M. The allowable error sets +1 dBm of an upper limit and -2 dBm of a lower limit, respectively. To simplify the fabrication process, the whole system is designed by two parts composed of a driving amplifier and a high power amplifier, The HP's MGA-64135 and Motorola's MRF-6401 are used for driving amplifier, and the ERICSSON's PTE-10114 and PTF-10021 are used the high power amplifier. The SSPA was fabricated by the circuits of RF, temperature compensation and 2-mode gain control circuit in aluminum housing. The gain control method was proposed by controlling the voltage for the 2-mode. In addition, It has been experimentally verified that the gain is controlled for single tone signal as well as two tone signals. The realized SSPA has 42 dB and 36 dB for small signal gain within 20 MHz bandwidth, and the VSWR of input and output port is less than 1.5:1 The minimum value of the 1 dB compression point gets 5 dBm for 2-mode variable gain high power amplifier. A typical two tone intermodulation point has 32.5 dBc maximum which is single carrier backed off 3 dB from 1 dB compression point. The maximum output power of 43 dBm was achieved at the 1636.5 MHz. These results reveal a high power of 20 Watt, which was the design target.the design target.

  • Recently, mobile communication systems using the millimeter-wave frequency band have been proposed, and the importance of efficient compensation of the nonlinearity caused by 60 GHz high-power amplifiers(HPAs) is increasing. In this paper, we propose a predistorter structure based on multiple coefficient sets which are separately used to different ranges of input power values. These ranges correspond to varying levels of nonlinearity characteristics. The structure is applied to the 60 GHz HPA FMM5715X and the performance of correcting the nonlinearity of LTE signals is evaluated. Evaluation results using a hardware testbed demonstrate that the proposed predistorter structure achieves the maximum of 6 dB gain over the conventional method in terms of the adjacent channel leakage ratio(ACLR).

  • In this paper, we have designed and fabricated the high power amplifier employing PBG(Photonic Band-Gap Structure) to improve the linearity of the amplifier in the millimeter wave band. The fabricated amplifier using MMIC(TGA1073G) has operated about 24 GHz band and the PBG has resulted in 35 dB suppression about 49 GHz where the second harmonic occurs due to the amplifier. As a result, the output power has been 24.43 dBm and 13.2 dBc of the IMD has been improved. Also, the PAE is obtained to 14.96 % of the amplifier employing the PBG structure in Ka band.

  • In this paper, an 1-Watt amplifier for IMT-2000 was designed and fabricated using feedfarward method which has the highest linearity and wide bandwidth. Since feedforward is sensitive to surroundings for example heat, input power level, time and so on, adaptive controller using micro controller is adopted. We fabricated a HPA with 35 dB gain, 40 dBm of 1-dB compression point, and utilized variable attenuator and variable phase shifter using reflection type to cancel loop signal. From the measured results, the fo11owing facts were obtained, in signal loop, main carrier over 35 dB was suppressed and error signal over 30 dB is cancelled in error loop, IMD characteristics above 60 dBc were obtained.
