The purpose of this paper is to investigate the planning characteristics of certain cases of elderly welfare housing (hitherto EWH), and analyze any problems by comparing this against the actual needs of potential residents. To this end, 38 distinct housing plans from twelve EWH built after 2005 were examined, and a survey on housing needs was taken by 198 people between 48 and 62 years of age. The results are as follows: Firstly, the most common size found among the 10 cases was 42-66 $m^2$, however larger sizes are becoming more frequent. The most popular response on the survey was one favoring smaller housing options. Secondly, the most common floor plan examined consisted of 1 bedroom + LDK and 2 bedroom + LDK. Likewise, the survey reflected that 1 or 2 bedroom housing was preferred. Thirdly, a floor plan composed of a smaller bedroom and LDK is commonly found in smaller floor plans of EWH. The survey reflected potential residents preferred this same style of floor plan, with a smaller bedroom and LDK set up. However, lower-income participants preferred a single, larger bedroom which also can serve as a living space, to go along with a kitchen/dining room (DK). Fourthly, 2 bedroom housing typically included a single bathroom, however the survey indicated that participants preferred a second bathroom to go along with a second bedroom. Consequently, the planning of elderly welfare housing is to a large extent meeting the demands of its potential residents, however house size and the planning of bathrooms have yet to meet these demands, especially with potential lower-income residents when it comes to housing size and space composition.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences housing needs between Korean and Japanese employed wives. Subjects consisted of 90 Korean employed and 141 Japanese employed wives who have children aged between 0-12 years old. The subjects were surveyed with a questionnaire specifically developed for this study to evaluate the housing needs of this growing segment of population. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. The results of descriptive statistics, x$^2$-test, multiple linear regressions are presented. The findings were as follows: 1) Korean employed wives depend on grandparents and relatives in their child-care and housework when the wives were out. On the contrary, Japanese employed wives put much more values on aid of their husband and community facilities fur child-care and housework. 2) The housing community needs showed significant differences. Korean employed wives wanted to provide a better physical environment for child-care and education of children more than Japanese employed wives. But Japanese employed wives needed more convenient community facilities that could be socialized housework than Korean employed wives. 3) Korean employed wives wanted gathered apartment house, and Japanese employed wives wanted row house. In comparison of working space needs in individual house, Korean employed wives wanted dining kitchen filled with many kinds of electric appliance including laundry space more, Japanese employed wives wanted LDK type which they have family interaction more and to depart laundry space from kitchen.
The purpose of this research is to examine residents' needs for shared community spaces and to explore the relationships between these needs and characteristics of consumers such as age and employment status of the homemakers, family life cycle stage, occupation of the primary income provider, housing size, and homeownership. Statistical data were compiled to determine frequencies and percentage distributions, and subjected to General Linear Model and Duncan-test analysis.Most residents wanted to utilize the basements of their complexes for storage space. Further interest was shown for shared community spaces that would be run by residents themselves, such as vegetable gardens, indoor playgrounds for children, senior citizen's activity rooms, walking paths, study rooms, and lounges. Female residents under 45 years old were likely to express needs for storage spaces for bicycle, and multipurpose rooms for meetings and family events. Female residents with jobs were more likely to desire shared community spaces than full-time females residents were. These findings imply the need for consideration of diverse plans rather than uniform ones. This results can be usefully applied to develop new apartment housing for different social class residents.
This study was conducted as a survey to find out middle-aged persons's housing preferences for a future elderly housing and to grasp background characteristics of persons influencing the preferences and the effect of elderly's aging situations on the changes of their preferences. A sample of 300 middle-aged people was selected purposely from parents of university students living in Gwang-ju city. Questionnaires were administered to parents by students and analysed with SPSS Windows 10 program. Middle-aged persons's housing preferences were differed according to elderly's aging situations, in the case of healthy situation, they tended to prefer to stay present house without their children in irrespective to couple or single, whereas in the case of unhealthy situation, they tended to prefer to live with their children. and couples showed preferences for planned housing for the elderly and singles showed preferences for elderly housing facilities with care services. The most important characteristics of elderly housing among middle-aged people was a places where they can enjoy leisure and provide home-help services, located in the suburbs. Also middle-aged persons were likely to prefer to a green spaces such as garden, path for walking, and madang for the elderly housing. Needs for community care services (NCCS) were required above the average. Among the items of NCCS, a visiting medical examination was the most demanding, and a visiting nursing services, a emergency calling bell, and home repairs were sequently followed in the level of needs. The characteristics of the elderly housing which preferred to and needs for community care services were influenced by middle-aged persons's age, gender, subjective evaluation of economic abilities, tenure status, the cost of living, and the size of housing. This findings suggests that it must to be considered to develop various types of the elderly housing depending on socioeconomic status.
this study has dual purposes; one is to develope a new theoretical framework in consumer behavior area by applying the human ecological approach, and the other is to test the theory empirically area by applying the human ecological approach, and the other is to test the theory empirically by examining prepurchasing behavior of housing. Research methods adopted in this study are library search and survey research with self-administered questionnaires. The statistical methods used in the survey research are factor analysis, chi square test, and multivariate analysis with crosstablulations. According to the human ecological approach, ecological environments are important sources of consumer needs which , in turn, are satisfied by purchasing behavior in the market. Within this theoretical framework, consumers con improve the quality to life by perceving clearly what their needs are thereby making the most possible efficient purchasing decision making. The major findings of the empirical research on the basis of the theoretical framework are as follows; 1) Housing needs significantly vary with different ecological environment. 2) consumer information search behavior does not differ significantly by housing needs. 3) Housing needs turn out to be an intervening variable between ecological environments and consumer information search behavior. the results of this study show that the human ecological approach is useful in consumer behavior studies. The empirical result that consumer needs are not significantly satisfied by consumer behavior suggests a now direction in consumer education.

"Environmentally Sound and Sustainable Development (ESSD)" is a key word in recent years. The construction industry, have put a great influence on ergonomic and sustainable environment. Recently, "green building certifications", such as Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and eco-friendly material regulation have been established. With this regard, new construction and aged-housing remodeling projects are required to meet these certification criteria. Multi-housing residents have great concern on eco-product, since many cases are reported that Sick Building Syndrome is caused by toxic substance from building materials. Aged-housing remodeling project is very unique in that building residents are selected prior to design phase. Therefore, the analysis of resident's need for building materials in aged-housing remodeling is relatively easy compared to new building construction. As such, it is very important to analyze their preferences for eco-friendly materials prior to project execution. The purpose of this study is to find the needs of residents and priority of their needs. Based on their needs and priority, this paper provides a new strategy in using environment-friendly materials and maximizing their satisfaction level when aged housing remodeling is constructed. In addition, this paper provide new criteria in selecting new developed environmental materials in remodeling projects for the purpose of improving the safety and health level in construction industry.
The purpose of this study was to identify the need for the housing consultation and information about housing in 6 cities except Seoul. This study examined the relations among socio-demographic characteristics, housing characteristics, and the level of need for the housing consultation and information. The number of 629 housewives were interviewed in Pusan, Daefeon, Inchon, Daegu, Kwangju, and Jeonju. The data were analysed by statistical methods such as frequencies, means, and logistic regression analysis. The results showed that the significant variables related to the needs for the housing consultation were the age, education level, and the experience of housing consultation. Respondents were required urgently the parts of housing environment and housing maintenance and repair.
Housing is the most important environment for the disabled because they spend most of this in their housing. However, their housing do not fully support their housing needs. Most of the hoses are designed for the healthy young people. Therefore, the disabled often have accidents in their homes. The physically disabled people want to stay in their homes and familar environment as long as possible. In order for the disabled to live in the housing as long as they want, the housing should support their safe and independent living. For this purpose, the housing is required to be altered to fit their needs. Sweden is one of the best welfare countries in the world. The Swedish government supports all the expenses for the disabled to stay in their housing and familiar environments. The study was to investigate a case on housing alterations for the physically disabled woman in Sweden. In addition, this study suggested the applications and adaptability of the housing alterations for the physically disabled in Korea.
The purpose of this study was to examine middle school students' three behavioral systemic needs for the Housing chapter in Home Economics curriculum, Through literature review, the concepts of the three behavioral systems in this study were divided into technical, interpretive and emancipatory one. The questionnaire survey method was used, The subjects were selected randomly the third grade 259 students at 6 middle schools located in Jeonju city, from December 17, 2004 to January 17, 2005, Data were analyzed by using SPSS/WIN 11.5 program. The results were as follows; 1) Average of importance which middle school students recognized was showed the interpretive behavioral system> the emancipatory behavioral system> the technical behavioral system, That of reflection of the text book was showed that the technical was same with the interpretive, and the emancipatory was a little lower value than two systems, And needs in each system were the emancipatory behavioral system> the technical behavioral system> the interpretive behavioral system, 2) Average needs were showed according to the sub-chapter of housing. 'Preservation and Repair of house' in the technical behavioral system and 'Indoor Environment and Equipment' in the interpretive and the emancipatory behavioral systems.
Housing culture can be defined as a subculture that characterizes a society, a region, and a time period. Therefore, identifying the housing needs of people is an effective way of understanding the housing culture. The purpose of this study was to identify the research trend of housing culture since 1980s until the recent year based on the keywords of previous literature. Seventy-one research articles were analyzed using content analysis as a research method and analysis framework which was composed of 4 aspects - physical, social, psychological, and living/welfare - was drawn for further analysis. As a main result, housing needs in social and living/welfare aspect were increasing as time passes. In general, researches related to physical aspect showed the highest ratio among 4 aspects. Specifically, research interests in community and social relationship among neighbors, natural environment, and housing welfare has remarkably increased since 2000s. The findings of this study showed that the housing culture is the comprehensive result or the process reflecting the needs and context in political, social, and economical background of those days.
