  • This study examined and analyzed the related study, Library Law, comparison of Korean Library Standards and IFLA guidelines and the status of domestic hospital library provision in order to grasp the regulations and status of domestic hospital library. As a result, the related study is very insufficient compared to overseas, and the Law and Standards for hospital libraries are not clearly and in detail in the Library Law. It is impossible to grasp the statistics and actual condition of the hospital library through the Yearbook of the Korean Library. The Korean Library Standards and IFLA guidelines also show differences in composition and key elements. According to the survey, 49 hospitals (1.3%), 8 hospitals (0.2%), 5 nursing hospitals (0.1%), 4 children's hospitals (0.1%), and 1 military hospital (0.0%) were among the 67 hospitals surveyed. Of the 49 general hospitals, 42 were advanced general hospitals, of which 17 were providing hospital libraries. The most urgent issue for providing hospital libraries is the revision of the Library Law and the Korean Library Standards, and the mandatory provision of hospital libraries, publicity through library magazines, and related research should be carried out.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the services provided to the patient based on the guidelines and standards due to the importance of the existence and role of the hospital library. The subject of investigation is foreign hospital library. As a result of the related search terms from search engine Google, researcher selected 90 overseas hospital library sites and examined the type of service based on guidelines and standards. As a result of the survey, services were provided mainly for 'basic service' and 'health information resource service' and 'health information resource service' was provided mainly for 'providing and delivering' rather than 'education'. 'Mental and psychological healing services' were found to be insufficient overall. The suggestion for providing hospital library service is as follows. First, it is necessary to provide library name and service that specialize only in patients. Second, it is necessary to expand bibliotherapy service, which is the center of hospital library service, especially providing culture, rehabilitation and entertainment programs, which are mental and mental healing services. Third, it is necessary to arrange human resources of health librarian and volunteer based on librarian.

Second, it is urgent to expand the number of library staff in the hospital. In addition, it is necessary to improve communication expertise based on medical expertise and ability to respond quickly to user requests. Third, it is necessary to expand the size of library and convenience facilities in the hospital by facilities and environment. Fourth, in case of service, it is necessary to improve service quality and provide various services. Experts should provide subject search service, medical information source service, general health information service (patient and carer) according to the user. Finally, in the case of programs, it is necessary to expand the infrastructure for program operation, to diversify the targets, and to extend the program continuity.

  • In this study, the medical library in the hospital was investigated on the overall operation status of the service target, books, facilities, environment, staff, service, etc., and the librarian in question conducted a demand survey and recognition survey of the library, and proposed a plan to activate the medical library in the hospital in the future. As a result, first, to increase the status of the library by the medical library in the hospital performing its role and improving the quality of the library's service, it should be divided into the independent organization in the organization. Second, it is necessary to establish legal standards for collection, size, and manpower for medical libraries in hospitals. Third, in order to systematically manage medical libraries in hospitals, professional librarians should be supported and personnel should be recruited so that library-specific tasks and administrative tasks can be distinguished. Fourth, it seems that policies to support the medical library in the hospital, such as budget support at the national level, librarian specialization education, development of operation guidelines, network activation with other libraries are needed.

  • The aim of this study was to screen for polypeptides binding specifically to LoVo human colorectal cancer cells using a phage-displayed peptide library as a targeting vector for colorectal cancer therapy. Human normal colorectal mucous epithelial cells were applied as absorber cells for subtraction biopanning with a c7c phage display peptide library. Positive phage clones were identified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and immunofluorescence detection; amino acid sequences were deduced by DNA sequencing. After 3 rounds of screening, 5 of 20 phage clones screened positive, showing specific binding to LoVo cells and a conserved RPM motif. Specific peptides against colorectal cancer cells could be obtained from a phage display peptide library and may be used as potential vectors for targeting therapy for colorectal cancer.

  • This study focused on library services for patients and carers and conducted an awareness survey on the current status of library services for patients and carers in hospitals in Korea and on future library services for patients and carers. Through this, the ways to activate library services for patients and carers in the hospital were sought. Based on the results of the study, the research team proposes the following measures: First, the legislation for the mandatory establishment of libraries in hospitals and standards for the size, book collection, and manpower of libraries in hospitals should be enacted. Second, cooperation between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare is essential to lay the foundation for the mandatory and voluntary establishment of hospital libraries at the national level in the future. Third, the operation of regional representative libraries, public libraries, and other institutions should be considered.

A total of 89 overseas hospital libraries were selected, including general hospitals, specialized hospitals, women's hospitals, children's hospitals, and veterans' hospitals. The health information service that is provided in general and common in 89 hospital libraries was surveyed and the differentiated health information service was investigated next. As a result, first, it can be seen that the establishment of hospital libraries and the provision of health information services are common outside of Korea. • This study focused on the domestic hospital libraries, the policies and support projects for them, and the current operation status of them. To this end, a list of hospital libraries was established and the operation status was investigated by conducting telephone interviews with 73 libraries collected. As a result, it was found that hospital libraries were established through support projects of other institutions (foundations, enterprises, etc.) rather than by the parent institutions, most of which were barely maintained except for certain actively operated ones. In terms of space, hospital libraries equipped with independent space were mostly operated on a small scale, and bookshelves were deployed in space for other purposes such as lounge and hallway. In terms of operation, a dedicated department or personnel for the library operation hardly existed, and more than half of them did not purchase additional books, simply maintaining the donated books at the time of the establishment. It was also shown that for services and programs, only booklending services are provided, except for a few libraries. Therefore, national policies and support will be needed to revitalize hospital libraries in the future, and the government needs to seek ways to continuously operate them through links with local representative libraries and public libraries.
