  • The concrete is usually used to build a radiation therapy facility and the enough concrete thickness for high energy x-ray beam is about 1 meter. But if the space is not enough to build a radiation therapy facility with concrete, the substitute for concrete is needed, and the Ledite can be a good substitute for concrete. In this study, we compared the Ledite with the concrete. The comparing list are the needed shielding thickness, the period of construction and the cost.

  • Background: safety and healthy working environment has received numerous research attention over the years. Majority of these researches seem to have been conducted in the construction industry, with little attention in the health sector. Nonetheless, there are couple of studies conducted in Africa that suggest pressure in hospitals. Therefore the aim of the study was to examine how pressure influence safety behavior in the hospitals. With reference to the relevance of safety behavior in primary health care delivery, there was the need for the study. Method: Data was obtained from 422 public hospital employees. Respondents were assured that all information would be kept confidential to increase the response rate and acquire more accurate information. Collection of questionnaires from participants took four weeks (20 working days), after which the data was analyzed. Results: The result of the study showed that work pressure correlated negatively with safety behavior. General safety climate significantly correlated positively with safety behavior and negatively with work pressure, although the effect size for the latter was smaller. Hierarchical regression analysis showed management commitment to safety to moderate the relationship between work pressure and safety behavior. Conclusion: When employees perceive safety communication, safety systems and training to be positive, they seem to comply with safety rules and procedures than voluntarily participate in safety activities.

  • Objectives: Spatial analysis is useful for understanding complicated causal relationships. This paper focuses trends and appling methods for spatial analysis associated with environmental asbestos exposure. Methods: Literature review and reflection of experience of authors were conducted to know academic background of spatial analysis, appling methods on epidemiology and asbestos exposure. Results: Spatial analysis based on spatial autocorrelation provides a variety of methods through which to conduct mapping, cluster analysis, diffusion, interpolation, and identification. Cause of disease occurrence can be investigated through spatial analysis. Appropriate methods can be applied according to contagiousness and continuity. Spatial analysis for asbestos exposure source is needed to study asbestos related diseases. Although a great amount of research has used spatial analysis to study exposure assessment and distribution of disease occurrence, these studies tend to focus on the construction of a thematic map without different forms of analysis. Recently, spatial analysis has been advanced by merging with web tools, mobile computing, statistical packages, social network analysis, and big data. Conclusions: Because the trend in spatial analysis has evolved from simple marking into a variety of forms of analyses, environmental researchers including asbestos exposure study are required to be aware of recent trends.

  • The sustainable development of local communities is faced with limitation due to poor infrastructure and lack of cooperation among stake-holders. To overcome such circumstances and thus to ensure balanced development of the local communities, the central government is driving construction of innovative cities mainly through transfer of public institutions to local cities. In this study, to contribute to the development of plans for the future agropolis' associated with the transfer of public institutions, efficient organization mechanisms of the agropolis such as basic structure and spatial allocation was examined through analyses of advanced cases(Sophia Antipolis, St. Hyacinthe Science Part Food Valley, Stoneleigh Park) of foreign countries. The analyses showed that the organization of agropolis were consisted of three main components; 1) agricultural and food industry complex conducting R&D, 2) service facilities(information, trade, consulting and advertisement) supporting agricultural and food industries and rural enterprise center in charge of a variety of events including exhibition, rural experience, education, and contest, 3) silver facilities such as hospital and town providing medical service and residence. Based on the results, inventories of facilities which are necessary in 'the future agropolis' and their spatial allocation were suggested.

  • In order to understand the variation of air quality and the concentration of atmospheric particulates in Chengdu Second Ring Road renovation project, this paper starts to investigate the surrounding residents' opinions on the influenced environment and their daily lives via questionnaires. Then the study numerically simulates the change rule of atmospheric particulates in terms of time and space by using the Gaussian dispersion-deposition model and the compartment model. The optimized scientific scheme is selected by the improved fuzzy analytical hierarchy process(FAHP) to help decision making for the future urban reconstructions. Finally, the reduced emissions of atmospheric particulates are measured when the improvement scheme is provided. According to the study, it can be concluded that the concentration of atmospheric particulates increases rapidly in central Chengdu city during the renovation project, which results in worsening air quality in Chengdu during March 2012 to March 2013. Taking related measures on energy saving and emission reduction can effectively reduce the concentration of atmospheric particulates and promote economic, environmental and social coordination.

  • The wireless sensor network (WSN) based ECG and body temperature measuring system for ubiquitous health-care were designed and developed. The system was composed of a wireless sensor network node, base station and server computer for the continuous monitoring of ECG signals and body temperatures of patients at home or hospital. ECG signal and body temperature data, important vital signals which are commonly used in clinical and trauma care, were displayed on a graphical user interface (GUI). The data transfer from sensor nodes on patients' body to server computer was accomplished through a base-station connected to a server computer using Zigbee compatible IEEE802.15.4 standard wireless communication. Real-time as well as historical, ECG data of elderly persons or patients, can also be retrieved and played back to assist the diagnosis. The ubiquitous health care system presented in this study can effectively reduce social medical expenses, which will be increased greatly in the coming aging society.
