  • The purpose of vehicle horn sound is for warning to pedestrians. In the past, the main development factor is to match the regulation level. But nowadays perceived quality is more important than level itself. In this study, we measure variety horn sound and evaluate its signals through the jury evaluation aimed at making horn sound quality index. Each contribution of the noise path for sound quality is identified and the target values and methods for implementing the luxurious horn sound are suggested. Finally, we developed, horn component and improve horn mounting condition for luxurious horn sound.

  • In this study, there is an investigation about the sound quality of automotive horn that attached to luxury sedans. In order to define a questionnaire of horn sound quality the factor analysis is conducted. Ten automotive horns are selected for this research and ten passenger cars(nine is luxury sedan and one economy class car). Luxury is used for the questionnaire as an attribute for the sound quality of car horn. The interior noises for ten test cars are recorded and used for the subjective analysis of car horn sound. In the paper, new sound metric for the car horn sound is presented. The new sound metric is used for the objective sound index for the prediction of subjective sound quality of car horn.

  • After the port opening in 1876, the western people made joseon image as the land of morning calm. there was a conception that joseon was a uncultivated country in the meaning of the land of morning calm. famous modernists such as gil-jun yu, kwang-su lee also had same conception. but such conception began to change in 1930's. the number of motor vehicle began to increase rapidly in 1930's. and also many of motor vehicle were equipped with air horn or electronic horn instead of bulb horn. bulb horn made thick and low rubber sound. but air horn or electronic horn made sharp and high metallic sound. city people of colonial joseon began to recognize air horn or electronic horn as city noise. so they tried to control the use of air horn or electronic horn. finally, in late 1930's, the use of air horn and electronic horn were prohibited.

  • In this study, we estimate the vehicle speed by analyzing the acoustic data recorded in a single microphone of a surveillance camera. The frequency analysis of the acoustic data corrects the Doppler effect, which is a characteristic of the moving sound source, and reflects the geometric relationship according to the location of the sound source and the microphone on the two-dimensional plane. The acoustic data is selected from the horn sound that is mainly observed in an urgent situation among various sound sources that may occur in a traffic accident, and the characteristics of the monotone source are considered. We verified the reliability of the proposed method by time domain acoustic analysis and actual vehicle evaluation. This method is effective and can be used for traffic accident analysis in the blind spot of the camera using a single microphone built into the existing surveillance camera.

  • In this paper, by comparatively analyzing horn type speaker and line array type speaker developed based on line sound source theory and point sound source theory, we research whether theory is adaptable or not in real. Academically, point sound source is attenuated as much as 6dB in accordance with double distance and line sound source is attenuated as much as 3dB in accordance with double distance. Line array speaker system developed based on line sound source is analyzed by theory of line sound source about occurring small sound pressure attenuation and it is propose of research that array composition of right speaker is selected in accordance with use purpose and environment. For this purpose, we analyze theory of point sound source and line sound source. we analyze parameter value by simulating designed horn type speaker and line array speaker based on theory.

  • Sound reception system is required to detect the sound and the quadrantal direction of the other ship's horn sound, to overcome the effects of enclosed wall for navigation space, functioning as a sound barrier. However, the realized systems can only provide quadrantal information of the other ship. This paper presents a new arrangement of microphones, having geometrically symmetric deployment with the same distances between sensors and the same angles between adjacent sensors with respect to the geometrical center. The sound pressures received at microphones are transformed into the related envelope signals by applying Hilbert transform. The time delays between microphones are estimated by the correlation functions between the derived envelope signals. This envelope base processing mitigates the noises related to the reflection by ship and sea surface. Then, the directional information is easily defined by using the estimated time delays. The suggested method is verified by the generated signals using boundary element method for a small ship model with sea surface wave. The estimated direction is quite similar to the true one and therefore the proposed approach can be used as an efficient sound reception system.

  • Since People have serveral feelings for the sound according to its frequency the responses of sound frequencies for the people have been studies in this paper. The feelings of sound are investigated by questionaire thar are pure tones, waring sounds of automobile and sounds that white noise is passed by one and one-third octave bandpass filter. Experimental results have been shown that people have good response for the pure tone between 160(Hz) and 500(Hz), and have unpleasant response for the pure tone above 1000 (Hz), warning sounds of automobile, and for white noise. Warning sound of automobile horn has been mainly distributed between 1000(Hz) and 2600(Hz). Hence the resells are shown that the responses for warning sound of autombile horn are similar to that for pure tone between 100(Hz) and 2600(Hz). As a results, it is necessary to make warning sound of automobile horn have frequencies between 200(Hz) and 500(Hz) with low level in the residental districts and crowded streets.

  • PURPOSES : While driving, drivers are usually limited in communicating with others except for using the horn. Excessive use of the horn may cause noise pollution, quarrels between drivers and pedestrians, damage, etc. This study developed a methodology for environmental adaptation and improvements of vehicle horns. METHODS: In this study, we performed a literature review of previous studies and related technologies regarding the overuse and damage of the horn. The proposed methodology employed the paired comparison method, as well as the semantic differential method. These methods can consider various vehicle horns, such as the Sport Utility Vehicle(SUV) Horn, Van Horn, and Buzzer. In addition, we conducted a factor analysis in order to provide a direction for improvement of future horns. This research provides a means of complimenting existing intellectual property related to vehicle horns. RESULTS: As a result, the most preferred of the selected horns were the Buzzer at 86.7%. In addition, based on the factor analysis, the horns could be classified into pleasantness and comfort factors. The results indicate a positive reaction for various vehicle horns. The horn type and size of the process control have been properly developed considering the position of the vehicle and the surrounding noise measurements. CONCLUSIONS : Based on the proposed methodology, public and private sectors can use fundamental data for reasonable traffic-noise control policies.

  • In this paper, a high gain waveguide array antenna combining horn antenna on slot radiator was designed. And the fabricated antenna showed enough gain, improved efficiency and broadband characteristics for receiving satellite signals, compare to conventional microstrip antenna which has dielectric loss and radiation loss on transmission line. For easy fabrication, the waveguide structure was composed by 3-stages of radiator, signal coupler and transmission line. By experiment, the array waveguide antenna of 4 by 16 showed 28.3[dBi] gain and 2:1 of VSWR. And by combining horn antenna structure, the gain was increased 1[dB]. The received signal from Koreasat 6 by measurement showed 16[dBc] of C/N on BS(Broadcasting Satellite)-band and 14[dBc] of C/N on CS(Communication Satellite)-band.
