In this research, we proposed an efficient VLSI architecture of the lifting-based 2D DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform) filter with 100% hardware utilization. The (9,7) filter structure has been applied and extendable to the filter length. We proposed a new block-based scheduling that computes the DWT for the lower levels on an "as-early-as-possible" basis, which means that the calculation for the lower level will start as soon as the data is ready. Since the proposed 2D DWT computes the outputs of all levels by one row-based scan, the intermediate results for other resolution levels should be kept in storage such as the Data Format Converter (DFC) and the Delay Control Unit (DCU) until they are used. When the size of input image is $N{\times}N$ and m is the filter length, the required storage for the proposed architecture is about 2mN. Since the proposed architecture processes the 2D DWT in horizontal and vertical directions at the same time with 4 input data, the total period for 2D DWT is $N^2(1-2^{-2J})/3$.
According to the recent trend to raise the horizontal scan frequency to increase the image refinement of the High Definition TV and High Resolution Display, material with low core loss is required for the ferrite core for deflection yoke, which is secured even in the high frequency range. liking notice of the influence on the fine structure of Mg-Zn ferrite by the chemical com position and process, low temperature sintering was proceeded. Cu was added to the low loss Mg-Zn system ferrite. After select-ing MgO, ZnO, $Fe_2$$O_3$, CuO, MgO was substituted for CuO while varying the composition ratio. Then the sample was sintered for 3 hours between $980~1350^{\circ}C$ Magnetic permeability, power consumption, shrinkage rate, core loss were measured. The start-ing temperature to test the shrinkage of the sample was nearby $900^{\circ}C$, it increased according to the substitution process of Cu, and the firing temperature was lowered about $-50~-75^{\circ}C$ alongside of the process.

Recent technological advances in wireless networks and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) have led to the development of different types of mini-UAVs and their utilizations in various ways. This study endeavors to develop a low-cost mini-UAV with autonomous flight capability, in order to obtain geospatial information of a small or medium-sized area, and also assess its flight stability by comparing the predetermined flight paths against the actual flight paths. Based on a post-development flight test, stable flight has been proven achievable as follows: the maximum endurance speed is 1 hour, the flying distance is 50km, the horizontal accuracy of flight paths is about ${\pm}6{\sim}8m$, and the altitude accuracy is about ${\pm}8m$. Therefore, it is deemed that high-resolution images which can be utilized for geospatial information are obtainable. This indicates that a UAV flying at an altitude of 200m can acquire images across a $2km{\times}3km$ area on the ground within 25 minutes, which validates its high usability for obtaining high-solution images at low altitudes in the future.
Due to the simple vertical structure of magnetic field, pores can be exploited to study the transport of mechanical energy by waves along the magnetic field to the chromosphere and corona. For a better understanding of physics of pores, we have investigated chromospheric traveling features running across two merged pores from their centers at the speed about 55 km s-1, in the active region AR 11828. The pores were observed on 2013 August 24 by using high time, spatial, and spectral resolution data from the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) of the 1.6 meter New Solar Telescope (NST). We infer a LOS velocity by applying the bisector method to the Ca II $8542{\AA}$ band and $H{\alpha}$ band, and investigate intensity and the line-of-sight velocity changes at different wavelengths and different positions at the pores. We find that they have 3 minutes oscillations, and the intensity oscillation from the line center is preceded by that from the core ($-0.3{\AA}$) of the bands. There is no phase difference between the intensity and the LOS velocity oscillations at a given wavelength. The amplitude of LOS velocity from near the core spectra is greater than that from the far core spectra. These results support the interpretation of the observed wave as a slow magnetoacoustic wave propagating along the magnetic field lines in the pores. The apparent horizontal motion and a sudden decrease of its speed beyond the pores can be explained by the projection effect caused by inclination of the magnetic field with a canopy.

A new algorithm is proposed for the extraction of line segments to construct 3D wire-frame models of building from the high-resolution aerial images. The purpose of this study Is the accurate and effective extraction of line segments, considering the problems such as discordance of lines and blurred edges existing in the conventional methods. Using the edge map extracted from aerial images, chain code tracking of edges was performed. Then, we extract the line segments considering the strength of edges and the direction of them. SUSAN (Smallest Uni-value Segment Assimilating Nucleus) algorithm proposed by Smith was used to extract an edge map. The proposed algorithm consists of 4 steps: removal of the horizontal, vertical and diagonal components of edges to reduce non-candidate point of line segments based on the chain code tracking of the edge map, removal of contiguous points, removal of the same angle points, and the extraction of the start and end points to be line segments. By comparing the proposed algorithm with Boldt algorithm, better results were obtained regarding the extraction of the representative line segments of buildings, having relatively less extraction of unnecessary line segments.

Strapdown Inertial navigation systems consist of an inertial sensor assembly(ISA), electronic modules to process sensor data, and a navigation computer to calculate attitude, velocity and position. In the ISA, most gryoscopes such as RLGs and FOGs, have digital output, but typical accelerometers use current as an analog output. For a high precision inertial navigation system, sufficient stability and resolution of the accelerometer board converting the analog accelerometer output into digital data needs to be guaranteed. To achieve this precision, the asymmetric error and A/D reset scale error of the accelerometer board must be properly compensated. If the relation between the acceleration error and the errors of boards are exactly known, the compensation and estimation techniques for the errors may be well developed. However, the A/D Reset scale error consists of a pulse-train type term with a period inversely proportional to an input acceleration additional to a proportional term, which makes it difficult to estimate. In this paper, the effects on the acceleration output for auto-pilot situations and the effects of A/D reset scale errors during horizontal alignment are qualitatively analyzed. The result can be applied to the development of the real-time compensation technique for A/D reset scale error and the derivation of the design parameters for accelerometer board.

Face detection at a distance faces is very challenging since images are often degraded by blurring and noise as well as low resolution. This paper proposes an improved face detection method with AdaBoost filtering and sequential testing stages with color and shape information. The conventional AdaBoost filter detects face regions but often generates false alarms. The face detection method is improved by adopting sequential testing stages in order to remove false alarms. The testing stages comprise skin-color test and variable edge-mask filtering. The skin-color filtering is composed of two steps, which involve rectangular window regions and individual pixels to generate binary face clusters. The size of the variable edge-mask is determined by the ellipse which is estimated from the face cluster. The validation of the horizontal and vertical ratio of the mask is also investigated. In the experiments, the efficacy of the proposed algorithm is proved by images captured by a CCTV and a smart-phone

Caption information in news videos can be useful for video indexing and retrieval since it usually suggests or implies the contents of the video very well. In this paper, a new algorithm for extracting and recognizing characters from news video is proposed, without a priori knowledge such as font type, color, size of character. In the process of text region extraction, in order to improve the recognition rate for videos with complex background at low resolution, continuous frames with identical text regions are automatically detected to compose an average frame. The image of the averaged frame is projected to horizontal and vertical direction, and we apply region filling to remove backgrounds to produce the character. Then, K-means color clustering is applied to remove remaining backgrounds to produce the final text image. In the process of character recognition, simple features such as white run and zero-one transition from the center, are extracted from unknown characters. These feature are compared with the pre-composed character feature set to recognize the characters. Experimental results tested on various news videos show that the proposed method is superior in terms of caption extraction ability and character recognition rate.

Background: Acromioclavicular (AC) stability is maintained through a complex combination of soft-tissue restraints that include coracoclavicular (CC), AC ligament and overlying muscles. Among these structures, the role of the CC ligament has continued to be studied because of its importance on shoulder kinematics, especially after AC injury. This study was designed to determine the geometric change of conoid and trapezoid ligaments and resulting stresses on these ligaments according to various scapular motions. Methods: The scapuloclavicular (SC) complex was isolated from a fresh-frozen cadaver by removing all soft tissues except the AC and CC ligaments. The anatomically aligned SC complex was then scanned with a high-resolution computed tomography scanner into 0.6- mm slices. The Finite element model of the SC complex was obtained and used for calculating the stress on different parts of the CC ligaments with simulated movements of the scapula. Results: Average stress on the conoid ligament during anterior tilt, internal rotation, and scapular protraction was higher, whereas the stress on the trapezoid ligament was more prominent during posterior tilt, external rotation, and retraction. Conclusions: We conclude that CC ligament plays an integral role in regulating horizontal SC motion as well as complex motions indicated by increased stress over the ligament with an incremental scapular position change. The conoid ligament is the key structure restraining scapular protraction that might occur in high-grade AC dislocation. Hence in CC ligament reconstructions involving only single bundle, every attempt must be made to reconstruct conoid part of CC ligament as anatomically as possible.
The study of pores, small penumbraless sunspots, can give us a chance to understand how strong magnetic fields interact with convective motions in the photosphere. For a better understanding of this interaction, we investigate the temporal variation of several tiny pores smaller than 2". These pores were observed by the Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) onboard Hinode on 2006 December 29. We have analyzed the high resolution spectropolarimetric (SP) data and the G-band filtergrams taken during the observation. Magnetic flux density and Doppler velocities of the pores are estimated by applying the center of gravity (COG) method to the SP data. The horizontal motions in and around the pores are tracked by adopting the Nonlinear Affine Velocity Estimator (NAVE) method to the G-band filter images. As results, we found the followings. (1) Darkness of pores is positively correlated with magnetic flux density. (2) Downflows always exist inside and around the pores. (3) The speed of downflows inside the pores is negatively correlated with their darkness. (4) The pores are surrounded by strong downflows. (5) Brightness changes of the pores are correlated with the divergence of mass flow (correlation coefficient > 0.9). (6) The pores in the growing phase are associated with the converging flow pattern and the pores in the decay phase with the diverging flow pattern. Our results support the idea that a pore grows as magnetic flux density increases due to the convergence of ambient mass flow and it decays with the decrease of the flux density due to the diverging mass flow.
