  • $SnO_2-B_2O_3-P_2O_5$ system were prepared by melt-quenching technique in the compositional series containing 50, 55 aod 60mol.% of $SnO_2$. A large glass-forming region was found at the phosphate side of the ternary system with homogeneous glasses containing up to 5-25mol.% of $B_2O_3$. For these glasses, thermal expansion coeffient($\alpha$), glass transition temperature(Tg), and glass softening temperature(Ts), were determined. The values a decrease with increasing $B_2O_3$ content, while Tg and Ts increased. The reason for the observed changes is local structure of the glasses. Local structure of the glasses was investigated by Raman and FT-IR measurements, suggesting that the number of bridging oxygens decreased whereas the non-bridging oxygen concentration increased with increasing $SnO_2$ content in the glasses.

  • The deformation behavior of a $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Ni_5Cu_{30}$ bulk metallic glass under tensile loading at different range of strain rates and temperatures between 680 K and 740 K were investigated. The variation in the deformation behavior of $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Ni_5Cu_{30}$ bulk metallic glass which resulted from the crystallization induced during testing was reported. The$Zr_{55}Al_{10}Ni_5Cu_{30}$ bulk metallic glass has showed either homogeneous or inhomogeneous deformation depending on test condition. It exhibited a maximum elongation of about 560 % at the condition of $407^{\circ}C{\times}\;10^{-4}/s$. The flow behavior exhibited three different types and the flow stress became lower at higher temperatures and lower strain rates. The increase of the time elapsed during heating resulted in the partial crystallization of bulk metallic glass phase and eventually strain hardening and brittle fracture.

  • The frictional pressure drop of a capillary tube flow is experimentally investigated for pure refrigerants such as R32, R125, and R134a and refrigerant mixtures such as R32/R134a(30/70 by mass percent), R32/R125(60/40), R125/R134a(30/70), and R32/R125/R134a(23/25/52). The binary interaction parameters for the calculation of viscosities of refrigerant mixtures are found based upon the data in the open literature. Several homogeneous flow models predicting the viscosity of two-phase region are compared to select the best model. Cicchitti's equation is known to be the most adequate for the prediction of the viscosity for refrigerant mixtures, which is used in the analysis of adiabatic capillary flows. A model for the prediction of the frictional pressure drop of single and two-phase flow is developed for refrigerant mixtures in this study. This model may be used to design and analyze the performance of a capillary tube in the refrigerating system.

  • The dissimilar metal joints welded between Ni-based alloy, Alloy 690 and low alloy steel, A533 Gr. B with Alloy 152 filler metal were characterized by using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, secondary ion mass spectrometry and 3-dimensional atom probe tomography. It was found that in the weld root region, the weld was divided into several regions including unmixed zone in Ni-base alloy, fusion boundary, and heat-affected zone in the low alloy steel. The result of nanostructural and nanochemical analyses in this study showed the non-homogeneous distribution of elements with higher Fe but lower Mn, Ni and Cr in A533 Gr. B compared with Alloy 152, and the precipitation of carbides near the fusion boundary.

  • The spray structures under the stratified and homogeneous charge condition of a gasoline direct injection were investigated in a visualized constant volume chamber. The chamber pressure was controlled from 0.1 MPa to 0.9 MPa by the high pressure nitrogen and the chamber temperatures of $25^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$ and $80^{\circ}C$ were controlled by the band type heater. The fuel, iso-octane was injected by a 6-hole injector with the pressures of 7 MPa and 12 MPa. From the experiments results, it is confirmed that at lower chamber pressure, the penetration length and spray angle are mainly affected by the chamber temperature with the vaporization of the fuel droplets and generated vortices at the end region of the spray. And at higher chamber pressure, the penetration lengths at the end of the injection were about 50~60% of that at lower chamber pressure regardless of the chamber temperature and the effect of fuel injection pressure is larger than that of the chamber temperature which results from larger penetration lengths at higher fuel injection pressure than at lower fuel injection pressure regardless of the chamber temperatures.

  • Controlled auto ignition (CAI) combustion, also known as HCCI (homogeneous charge compression ignition), offers the potential to simultaneously improve fuel economy and reduce emission. CAI-combustion was achieved in a single cylinder gasoline DI engine, with a cylinder running in a CAI mode. Standard components were used the camshafts which had been modified in order to restrict the gas exchange process. The effects of air-fuel ratio, residual EGR rate and injection timing such as early injection and late injection on the attainable CAI combustion region were investigated. The effect that injection timings on factor such as start of combustion, combustion duration and heat release rate was also investigated. From results early injection caused the mixture to ignite earlier and burn more quickly due to the exothermic reaction during the recompression and gave rise to good mixing of the fuel-air.

  • Microstructural properties of as-grown and annealed CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy (HEA) oxynitride thin films were investigated. The CoCrFeMnNi HEA oxynitride thin film was grown by magnetron sputtering method using an air gas, and annealed under the argon plus air flow for 5 h at $800^{\circ}C$. The as-grown film was homogeneous and uniform composed of nanometer-sized crystalline regions mixed with amorphous-like phase. The crystalline phase in the as-grown film was face centered cubic structure with the lattice constant of 0.4242 nm. Significant microstructural changes were observed after the annealing process. First, it was fully recrystallized and grain growth happened. Second, Ni-rich region was observed in nanometer-scale range. Third, phase change happened and it was determined to be $Fe_3O_4$ spinel structure with the lattice constant of 0.8326 nm. Hardness and Young's modulus of the as-grown film were 4.1 and 150.5 GPa, while those were 9.4 and 156.4 GPa for the annealed film, respectively.

  • Ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) are an unusual galaxy population. They are ghostlike galaxies with fainter surface brightness than normal dwarf galaxies, but they are as large as MW-like galaxies. The key question on UDGs is whether they are 'failed' giant galaxies or 'extended' dwarf galaxies. To answer this question, we study UDGs in massive galaxy clusters. We find an amount of UDGs in deep HST images of three Hubble Frontier Fields clusters, Abell 2744 (z=0.308), Abell S1063 (z=0.347), and Abell 370 (z=0.374). These clusters are the farthest and most massive galaxy clusters in which UDGs have been discovered until now. The color-magnitude relations show that most UDGs have old stellar population with red colors, while a few of them show bluer colors implying the existence of young stars. The stellar masses of UDGs show that they have less massive stellar components than the bright red sequence galaxies. The radial number density profiles of UDGs exhibit a drop in the central region of clusters, suggesting some of them were disrupted by strong gravitational potential. Their spatial distributions are not homogeneous, which implies UDGs are not virialized enough in the clusters. With virial masses of UDGs estimated from the fundamental manifold, most UDGs have M_200 = 10^10 - 10^11 M_Sun indicating that they are dwarf galaxies. However, a few of UDGs more massive than 10^11 M_Sun indicate that they are close to failed giant galaxies.

  • The efficiency of the regional fiscal policy implementation is based on the achievement of target criteria in the formation and distribution of own financial resources of local budgets, reducing their deficit and reducing dependence on transfers. It is also relevant to compare the development of financial autonomy of regions in the course of decentralisation of fiscal relations. The study consists in the cluster analysis of the effectiveness of fiscal policy implementation in the context of 24 regions and the capital city of Kyiv (except for temporarily occupied territories) under conditions of fiscal decentralisation. Clustering of the regions of Ukraine by 18 indicators of fiscal policy implementation efficiency was carried out using Ward's minimum variance method and k-means clustering algorithm. As a result, the regions of Ukraine are grouped into 5 homogeneous clusters. For each cluster measures were developed to increase own revenues and minimize dependence on official transfers to increase the level of financial autonomy of the regions. It has been proved that clustering algorithms are an effective tool in assessing the effectiveness of fiscal policy implementation at the regional level and stimulating further expansion of financial decentralisation of regions.

  • Silicon carbide is widely used in radiation environments due to its excellent properties. However, when exposed to the strong radiation environment constantly, plenty of defects are generated, thus causing the material performance downgrades or failures. In this paper, the two-temperature model (2T-MD) is used to explore the defect recovery process by applying the electronic energy loss (Se) on the pre-damaged system. The effects of defect concentration and the applied electronic energy loss on the defect recovery process are investigated, respectively. The results demonstrate that almost no defect recovery takes place until the defect density in the damage region or the local defect density is large enough, and the probability of defect recovery increases with the defect concentration. Additionally, the results indicate that the defect recovery induced by swift heavy ions is mainly connected with the homogeneous recombination of the carbon defects, while the probability of heterogeneous recombination is mainly dependent on the silicon defects.
