Development of patient classification tool using the computerizing system (환자 분류도구 전산 개발;간호활동 중심으로)

  • This study was a methodological research to develop computerized patient classification system. The subjects of this investigation were 435 inpatients except redundant data and outliers in P University Hospital from January 18, 2000 to January 24, 2000. The data was analyzed by discrimination analysis and adopted discriminant variables were 1) sum of frequency for the nursing activities, 2) the number of nursing activities that do not need to consider intensity of the activities, and 3) total hours of nursing activities that need to consider their intensities. Discriminant function developed by this study classified the patients into 4 groups; class I, 251 ; class II, 125 ; class III, 39 ; class IV, 20. The Hit ratio was 89.23. Based on this study, following suggestions can be made for the future research 1. Inclusive patient classification system, which includes more expanded direct nursing care factors, need to be developed and examined. 2. This developed classification system can be utilized to evaluate patient distribution and to estimate adequate numbers of nursing staffs in each nursing unit.

Prevalence and Risk Factors of Orthostatic Hypotension among the Community-Dwelling Aged (재가 노인의 체위성 저혈압 발생빈도와 위험요인)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the prevalence of orthostatic hypotension and its association with risk factors of orthostatic hypotension aged over 60 in Seoul and Chungju, Korea. Method: The data were collected from the 22th of August, 2000 to the 7th May 2001. The participants were 74 community-dwelling aged who could stand up from sitting position without assistance. Subjects were interviewed with structured questionnaire in order to ask experience of previous falls, hours in per day, symptoms related orthostatic hypotension and demographic characteristics. Orthostatic hypotension was assessed at 1 minute after the subjects standing from sitting position and defined as 20mmHg or greater decrease in systolic blood pressure after standing. Result: The prevalence of orthostatic hypotension was 17.1%. The mean drop of systolic blood pressure was 27.46mmHg among orthostatic hypotension subjects. The significant variables which explain the occurrence of orthostatic hypotension was the basal systolic blood pressure, the hit ratio of discriminant function with basal systolic blood pressure was 69.7%. Conclusion: Finding indicate that this study will contribute to develop nursing strategies to identify risk factors and to prevent orthostatic hypotension for the aged.

CAWR: Buffer Replacement with Channel-Aware Write Reordering Mechanism for SSDs

  • A typical solid-state drive contains several independent channels that can be operated in parallel. To exploit this channel-level parallelism, a variety of works proposed to split consecutive write sequences into small segments and schedule them to different channels. This scheme exploits the parallelism but breaks the spatial locality of write traffic; thus, it is able to significantly degrade the efficiency of garbage collection. This paper proposes a channel-aware write reordering (CAWR) mechanism to schedule write requests to different channels more intelligently. The novel mechanism encapsulates correlated pages into a cluster beforehand. All pages belonging to a cluster are scheduled to the same channels to exploit spatial locality, while different clusters are scheduled to different channels to exploit the parallelism. As CAWR covers both garbage collection and I/O performance, it outperforms existing schemes significantly. Trace-driven simulation results demonstrate that the CAWR mechanism reduces the average response time by 26% on average and decreases the valid page copies by 10% on average, while achieving a similar hit ratio to that of existing mechanisms.

  • Body measurement was first made with the subjects of 193 males in their 20s residing in the Ningbo area, Zhejiang Province in China. In this first report, lower body shapes were classified and discriminated by using anthropometric measurement indices and lower body analysis. The following sums up the research: 1. Compared with the average values of Korean males in their 20s, the Chinese subjects were characterized with thinner waist, more flat hip, and smaller midthigh. 2. The subjects of Chinese males in their 20s showed three types of lower bodies: H-Round Type (25.91%)-thick waist-abdomen, round cross-section waist-abdomen, and small waist-hip difference. A-Trapezoid Type (34.72%)-small width of omphalion waist-abdomen, average cross-section waist-abdomen, and large waist-hip difference. A-Balance Type (39.38%)-average width of omphalion waist-abdomen, flat cross-section waist-abdomen, and large waist-hip difference. 3. Seven useful variables for the categorization of the subjects' lower body types were chosen through stepwise discriminant analysis, and the hit ratio of discrimination was 96.89%.

Preparation of the Fermented Product by Lactic Acid Bacteria from Cheese whey (치즈훼이를 이용한 유산균 발효제품 제조)

  • The optimum conditions for the development of a lactic acid beverage from the concentrated whey were studied using reverse osmosis system. For lactose hydrolysis rate and acid productivity, the strain mixture of Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus was more efficient than that of Streptococcus cremoris and Streptococcus lactis. The titratable acidity was increased at higher LCR (lactose concentration ratio) of whey. However, the higher LCR of whey was, the slower the pH decreasing rate was. The amount of sediment was maximum at LCR of 1.0 : 1 whey, hit there was no sediment at LCR 3.0 : 1 whey after 12 hours. Propylene glycol alginate was the best stabilizer and prevented from sedimentation at the concentation of less than 0.1%. Aspartame as a sweetener of yoghurt flavor had the best palatability.

A New Eye Tracking Method as a Smartphone Interface

  • To effectively use these functions many kinds of human-phone interface are used such as touch, voice, and gesture. However, the most important touch interface cannot be used in case of hand disabled person or busy both hands. Although eye tracking is a superb human-computer interface method, it has not been applied to smartphones because of the small screen size, the frequently changing geometric position between the user's face and phone screen, and the low resolution of the frontal cameras. In this paper, a new eye tracking method is proposed to act as a smartphone user interface. To maximize eye image resolution, a zoom lens and three infrared LEDs are adopted. Our proposed method has following novelties. Firstly, appropriate camera specification and image resolution are analyzed in order to smartphone based gaze tracking method. Secondly, facial movement is allowable in case of one eye region is included in image. Thirdly, the proposed method can be operated in case of both landscape and portrait screen modes. Fourthly, only two LED reflective positions are used in order to calculate gaze position on the basis of 2D geometric relation between reflective rectangle and screen. Fifthly, a prototype mock-up design module is made in order to confirm feasibility for applying to actual smart-phone. Experimental results showed that the gaze estimation error was about 31 pixels at a screen resolution of $480{\times}800$ and the average hit ratio of a $5{\times}4$ icon grid was 94.6%.

A Study on the Extraction of E-mail Region in Unconstraint Calling Card Images (무제약 명함 영상에서의 E-mail 영역 검출에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm to extract the E-mail address in calling card images. Firstly, text regions are separated from background. in the image. To do this, the properties of e-mail addresses and the texture features in the image is used. And then, each text region is explored to find the candidates of e-mail region. Finally, each candidate is divided into characters to find at-symbol(@), that is, e-mail region. The experimental results show hit-ratio over 93.3% for the various kind of calling cards containing different fonts, background images, caricatures.

  • This study was to find out variables influenced on the medication patterns (voluntary medication, in-voluntary medication) of antipsychotics taken by schizophrenic outpatients. Purposes of this study were to be identified that there was the significant difference between the group of voluntary medication and involuntary, and that which variables had infuence on outpsychotics medication. The sample consisted of 30 patients takeing their pills voluntary (voluntary medication group), and 15 patients involuntary(involuntary medication group) at a psychiatry hospital and a psychiatric unit of a The findings of the study are as follows : university hospital in Daegu. Data were collected from September to October, 1991 through interview using questionare about antipsychotics medication. Data were analyzed by the technique of two group discriminant function analysis using SPSS pc$^{+}$ 1) Discriminant function discriminating between voluntary medication and involuntary medication was significant at the level of 10% significance (sig.=.055, p〈.10) Hit-ratio was very high (91. 1%) 2) One of General variables, SEX, was significant of discriminating between two medication patterns at the level of 10% significance. 3) One of Family Environmental Variables, BROTH(a number of brother), were significant between two medication patterns. (p〈.10) 4) One of Therapeutic Environmental Variables, FAMHX, was significant between two medication patterns at the level of 10% significance. 5) One of Variables Related to Drug and Medication, NECESS, was significant between two medication patterns. Performance Evaluation of a Spatial Index Structure Supporting the Circular Property in Spatial Database Systems (공간 데이타베이스 시스템에서 순환 속성을 지원하는 공간색인구조의 성능평가)

  • In order to increase the performance of spatial database systems, a spatial indexing method is necessary to manage spatial objects efficiently in both dynamic and static environments. A spatial indexing method considering a spatial locality is required to increase the retrieval performance. And the spatial locality is related to the location property of objects. The previous spatial indexing methods did not consider the circular location property of objects. In this paper, we introduce the CR-Tree that is a spatial index structure for clustering spatially adjacent objects in which a search space is constructed with the circular and linear domains. Using a spatial index structure considered a circular location property of objects, we show that high hit ratio and bucket utilization are increased through the simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose a new dynamic spatial index structure, called PR -file, for handling spatial objects and the modified hierarchical variance which measures the degree of spatial locality at each level. Under the assumption that a multidimensional search space has a circular domain, PR-file uses the modified hierarchical variance for clustering spatially adjacent objects. The insertion and splitting algorithms of PR_file preserve and index which has a low hierarchical variance regardless of object distributions. The simulation result shows that PR- file has a high hit ratio during a retrieval of objects by using an index with low hierarchical variance. And it shows a characteristic that the larger the bucket capacity, the higher the bucket utilization.
