  • Generation of evaporation data generally assists in planning, operation, and management of reservoirs and other water works. Annual and monthly evaporation series were generated for King Fahad Dam Lake in Bishah, Saudi Arabia. Data was gathered for period of 22 years. Tests of homogeneity and normality were conducted and results showed that data was homogeneous and normally distributed. For generating annual series, an Autoregressive first order model AR(1) was used and for monthly evaporation series method of fragments was used. Fifty replicates for annual series, and fifty replicates for each month series, each with 22 values length, were generated. Performance of the models was evaluated by comparing the statistical parameters of the generated series with those of the historical data. Annual and monthly models were found to be satisfactory in preserving the statistical parameters of the historical series. About 89% of the tested values of the considered parameters were within the assigned confidence limits

  • China and Korea have a long history of star charts, dating from the prehistoric period. Historically, Korean astronomy has been deeply influenced by China over the last two thousand years, particularly on constellation system. Therefore, Chinese and Korean traditional star charts have many similarities in terms of shape of constellation, number of star, and so forth. Korean star charts, however, have lots of unique characteristics distinguishing from Chinese ones, such as, size of star and position of constellation. Overall knowledge of the Chinese star chart is required to study the Korean star chart. In this paper, I focus on introducing selected star charts in China and Korea. Although this review is very limited, I hope that this paper is helpful in research in the field of historical astronomy.

  • Among several indices that have been proposed and adopted in different disciplines of sciences, standardized precipitation index, SPI by McKee et al. (1993) was applied to evaluate drought severity for historical rainfall records. Monthly SPI in Seoul station was reviewed in this study, in an effort to characterize the drought intensities during 1994. The SPI drought frequency decreases inversely with monthly time scales of different spans, while the drought duration increases. March, 1994 was found to be the most severe for the three month period, and was recognized as the beginning month of the historical drought spans. Drought intensities became less severe during May and June. SPI becomes greater from July to September particularly in eastern parts of the country.

  • In the oriental medicine rhinopathy had been described since Hwangjenaekyung and from earlier period rhinopathy was closely related with lung and lung meridian. So we investigated about 20 oriental medical texts of china which regarded important in medical history. We made a historical study about rhinopathy according to these books and obtained the next conclusion. At first rhinopathy was recognized just one symptom, reduced by some disease, but from Song(宋) dynasty it was understood one part of disease which is in the category of rhinopathy. Name of classified rhinopathy was plentiful as time goes by.

  • This study is on the theory of Piaget's reflective abstraction and the mechanism of the development of knowledge and the history of algebra and its application to understand the difficulties that many students have in learning algebra. Piaget considers the development of knowledge as a linear process. The stages in the construction of different forms of knowledge are sequential and each stage begins with reorganization. The reorganization consists of the projection onto a higher level from the lower level and the reflection which reconstructs and reorganizes within a lager system that is transferred by profection. Piaget shows that the mechanisms mediating transitions from one historical period to the next are analogous to those mediating the transition from one psychogenetic stage to the next and characterizes the mechanism as the intra, inter, trans sequence. The historical development of algebra is characterized by three periods, which are intra inter, transoperational. The analysis of the history of algebra by the mechanism explains why the difficulties that students have in learning algebra occur and shows that the roles of teachers are important to help students to overcome the difficulties.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine residential cultural attributes by analysing typological and living characteristics while focusing on various types of houses located in Gyeongju city, based on the historical and cultural background of the city. In this study, it is important to suggest methods for planning residential construction which satisfies requirements of Gyeongju citizens for living environment and considers its cultural and historical contexts. This study was performed using housing type-related questionnaires with 203 residents to find out their current living types, as well as their preferable living types in the future, during the period from the 16th to 18th day of August 2007. Analysis was performed using the SPSS 14, a statistical program, and statistically significant results were drawn from the analysis.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze and to shed light on the evolutions of factors with the wall structure and their relations with production mechanisms of urban form. this study based on followings; literature review of existing study and setting up of examination factors, analytical review of each wall's current situation and problems, analytical review of each wall's urban regeneration. The significance of this study is in that the study use a contemporary map showing the actual spatial arrangement in the period, instead of using the historical map. We understood the planning methods to interpret the site's historical urban trace and memory. Based on the results, this study presented the solution for the placeless and potential energy.

  • Becaruse of the continual occurrence of minor and moderate earthquake in Korean peninsula, it is generally considered that Korean is nor located in safe region against probable earthquake and more, even though being recognized as a safe contry in earthquake. It is in particular noted that nowadays there has been much concern about undesirable disaster due to unexpected earthquake since the disaster of 1995 Kobe earthquake. Thus, the objective of this research is to develop appropriate design spectrum which could be practicably used in seismic design of important structures taking into consideration of local physical characteristics. Particularly, we have to keep in mind the lessons from 1985 Mexico earthquake which had disregarded deep research on local ground conditions, being a possible magnification phenomena of ground motions in weak soil layer. Various spectra has been described based on the analysis of historical earthquakes, and appropriate design spectrum has been proposed herein.

  • Jukseoru is a pavilion building located in 44 Jukseoru-gil, Samcheok-si, Gangwon-do. Jukseoru is characterized by the fact that the center 5 bays out of the front 7 bays are in the form of Jusimpo, while the ends of each side are in the form of an Ikgong. In addition, the columns are not aligned with each other because the columns of both compartments are out of the center rather than the columns of the center of the five compartments of the columns do not match each other. Based on this, architectural historical circles initially built five bays in pairs, but later added one space to each side to make it seven bays. Recently, however, a new claim has been made that it was built with seven bays from the beginning. Therefore, this paper proved that Jukseoru were expanded through historical data. We also looked at the characteristics of the Jukseoru period and the process of transformation through comparison of the bracket type.
