In this paper, we design a hybrid controller for a safe lane change maneuver in automated highway systems(AHS). The proposed hybrid controller consists of a supervisor which controls the behaviors of discrete-event dynamic systems, and a regulator which controls the operations of continuous-variable dynamic systems. The supervisor determines whether the system starts a maneuver or not, via a condition for a safety, and gives orders to the regulator for performing the maneuvers. And the regulator tracks the planned path generated in the supervisor. The conditions for a safe lane change maneuver are proposed using the velocity, the acceleration, and geometrical relationship of vehicles.
The one of the most important factors is the platoon design on developing AH3(Advanced Highway System), as it is related to traffic efficiency and drivers' safety. This study was evaluated that how much speed is comfortable for drivers and how long distance is appropriate for vehicular gap of platoon by measuring drivers' physiology signal and sensibility. A fixed-based AHS simulator was developed by using a real vehicle cockpit and the restructured part of Korean highway for human factors evaluation. The EEG(electroencephalogram), ECG (electrocardiogram) and GSR(Galvanic Skin Response) were measured for obtaining drivers' physiology signal according to the change of speed and gap. The brain wave(${\alpha},\;{\beta},\;{\delta},\;{\theta}$) by EEG, the response of the autonomic nervous system. the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, by ECG, and relax-arousal situation by GSR were analyzed. The SD(Semantic Differential) method was also applied to evaluate drivers' sensibility by 5-grade evaluation scale with 96 adjectives. SSQ(Simulator Sickness Questionnaire) was used to measure the simulator sickness of pre and post driving, two times. As the results, drivers were comfortable with 120km/h speed of platoon and lam to 15m vehicular distance. The results of this study may differ from the adaption of the reality because of many parameters. However, the purpose of this study is show to significant results of the drivers' safety and the acceptability of human factors evaluation.

Ground vehicle borne system which is named RoSSAV(Road Safety Survey and Analysis Vehicle) developed in KICT(Korea Institute of Construction Technology) can collect road geometric data. This system therefore is able to evaluate the road safety and analyze road deficient sections using data collected along the roads. The purpose of this study is to extract road geometric data for 3D road modeling in dangerous road section and The system should be able to quickly provide more accurate data. Various sensors(circular laser scanner, GPS, INS, CCD camera and DMI) are installed in moving object and collect road environment data. Finally, We extract 3d road geometry(center, boundary), road facility and slope using integrated multi-sensor data.
The SMART Highway project combines road construction with advanced technology and vehicle telecommunications. Its expected outcome is a world-leading intelligent road that is green, fast, and comfortable. A vehicular ad-hoc network(VANET) is the core technology of the SMART Highway, whose transport operation is based on road vehicles. The VANET is a next-generation networking technology that enables wireless communication between vehicles or between vehicles and a road side unit(RSU). In the VANET system, a vehicle accident is likely to cause a serious disaster. Therefore, some information on safety is essential to serve as the key exchange protocol for communication between vehicles. However, the key exchange scheme of the general network proposed for a fast-moving communication environment is unsuitable for vehicles. In this paper, communication between multiple vehicles more efficient and secure key exchange at the vehicle certification by signcryption is proposed.

The aim of this study is to propose economical safety driving speed index which those are geometric road status; examine the levels of which those cost-benefit of driving fuel expenditure; are search road safety design and operational technology for driving simulators. For the objective, we analyzed the current status of driving fuel expenditure and driving scenarios by the road alignments, and reviewed driving and technical specifications by the geometric types of road according to the implementation, and extended completion. Throughout the result of this study, diverse related driving information provision service, efficiently driving system is expected to be implemented in the national highway design system.
Geometric information is a key element for evaluating traffic safety and road maintenance. This study developed an algorithm to identify horizontal alignment using global positioning system(GPS) and inertial navigation system(INS) data. Roll and heading information extracted from GPS/INS were utilized to classify horizontal alignment into tangent, circular curve, and transition curve. The proposed algorithm consists of two components including smoothing for eliminating outlier and a heuristic classification algorithm. A genetic algorithm(GA) was adopted to calibrate parameters associated with the algorithm. Both freeway and rural highway data were used to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. Promising results, which 90.48% and 88.24% of classification accuracy were obtainable for freeway and rural highway respectively, demonstrated the technical feasibility of the algorithm for the implementation.

A cooperative driving automation system is imperative to overcome the limitation of the stand-alone automated driving technology. By definition, a cooperative driving automation system refers to a technology in which an automated vehicle cooperates with other vehicles or infrastructure to increase driving efficiency and safety. Specifically, in this study, the technical elements necessary for the cooperative driving automation technology and the technological research trends were investigated. Subsequently, implications for future cooperative driving automation technology development were drawn through the research trends. Finally, the importance of cooperative driving automation technology and infra-guidance service for automated vehicles were discussed.
Three major Asian countries, Korea, China, and Japan, shared 18.3% of global GDP and 14.2% of global trade volume in 2005. When considering this number, cooperation of these three countries is very important. Also, it is needless to say that we need efficient international logistics system in Asia. The key point to realize efficient international logistics system is unit load system utilizing pallets and containers. To build up efficient logistics system among Korea, China, and Japan, we need 'total palletization' with standardized pallets. We may regard 'total palletization' as an 'efficient highway of North-Eastern Asia logistics.' In this study, we will suggest two kinds of effects, which logistics standardization among Korea, China, and Japan will make. One is the effect on economy and trade, and the other is the effect on logistics business and environments.

Currently, 787 hydrogen tube trailer are in operation as of the end of October 2022, and a maximum of 340 kg is transported in a Type 1 seamless container at a pressure of up to 200 bar. The current safety management system and facility management are in good condition, but the system and facility structure improvement are needed to strengthen safety. Accordingly, this paper simulated and analyzed an accident case that occurred on the Daejeon-Dangjin highway on December 28, 2021 during the process of expanding the supply and operation of hydrogen tube trailer according to the hydrogen energy activation policy. Based on the results, suggestions were made on how to improve the safety of hydrogen tube trailer.
This paper proposes a stereo vision-based forward obstacle detection and distance measurement method. In general, stereo vision-based obstacle detection methods in automotive applications can be classified into two categories: IPM (Inverse Perspective Mapping)-based and disparity histogram-based. The existing disparity histogram-based method was developed for stop-and-go applications. The proposed method extends the scope of the disparity histogram-based method to highway applications by 1) replacing the fixed rectangular ROI (Region Of Interest) with the traveling lane-based ROI, and 2) replacing the peak detection with a constant threshold with peak detection using the threshold-line and peakness evaluation. In order to increase the true positive rate while decreasing the false positive rate, multiple candidate peaks were generated and then verified by the edge feature correlation method. By testing the proposed method with images captured on the highway, it was shown that the proposed method was able to overcome problems in previous implementations while being applied successfully to highway collision warning/avoidance conditions, In addition, comparisons with laser radar showed that vision sensors with a wider FOV (Field Of View) provided faster responses to cutting-in vehicles. Finally, we integrated the proposed method into a longitudinal collision avoidance system. Experimental results showed that activated braking by risk assessment using the state of the ego-vehicle and measuring the distance to upcoming obstacles could successfully prevent collisions.
