The purpose of this study was to compare the eating experience and preferences for seafood among elementary school students in Gyeonggi-do. A survey was carried out on 383 elementary school students. As for the eating experience of seafood, the students were aware of and had eaten 'Scomber japonics (Go-deung-eo) (96.3%)', 'Anadara broughtonii (Jo-gea) (95.8%)', 'Ommastrephes sloani pacificus (O-jing-eo) (98.7%)', 'Panulirus japonicus (Sea-ou) (98.4%)', 'Porphyra tenera (Gim) (99.5%)', 'Shrimp, soused (81.2%)', 'Eo-muk (98.7%)', and 'Anchovy, dried (98.7%)'. As for the preferences for seafood, 'like (67.6%)', 'fair (21.5%)', and 'dislike (7.3%)' were observed. Concerning the frequency of seafood consumption, 4th grade students showed higher frequency of '1~2/week' compared to others (p<0.05). 6th grade students showed higher frequency of '3~4/week' compared to others (p<0.05). In terms of preferable cooking methods for seafood, 'grilling (35.0%)', 'soup (23.0%)', and 'raw fish (19.8%)' were observed. Boys showed a higher preference for 'grilling', 'frying' and 'raw fish' compared to the girls (p<0.05). Girls showed a higher preference for 'soup', 'braising' and 'steaming' compared to the boys (p<0.05). As for the seafood intake by eating place, 'home (60.1%)', 'eating-out (18.3%)', and 'school lunch menus (12.8%)' were observed in that order. Therefore, in order to increase the consumption and intake of seafood, students should attempt to achieve proper intake though information of nutrition and consistent nutritional education.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a guide book on safety education for teachers to use in education classes for elementary school students. Methods: Dick & Carey's teaching model and Keller's ARCS theory were used in the development of this guide book. Results: This guide book was developed for lower grade (1st$\sim$3rd) and higher grade (4th$\sim$6th) elementary school students. The content consisted of subjects, worksheets, content for teachers, statistical data, case studies, and a safety letter to the parents. The 10 subjects were as follows: "Importance of injury prevention", "Safety at home", "Accident prevention at school", "Violence prevention", "Vehicles safety", "Water safety", "Prevention of Fires & Burns", "Safety of Toys & home supplies", "Safety in Sports & Recreation activity", "Prevention of injury caused by animals". Statistical data was presented by graphs and case studies were presented of cases of real occurrences of accidents. Worksheets contain various activities for students. Safety letters were composed for each student's parents. Conclusion: This guide book presents effective material for safety education classes in elementary school and the authors hope it will be widely used in elementary schools.
Background: Adolescence is the transitional period between childhood and adulthood. We have to pay attention to their psycho-social problems as well as their physical symptoms. In this context, we need to investigate the adolescent depression tendency and its related factors. Method : From May to June in 1008, we chose one elementary school, one middle school and one high school in Seoul and surveyed for all students who were above the 4th grade of elementary school and their parents. We analyzed the data for 3,685 students. Result: From the 6th grade of elementary school to the 1st grade of high school, the girls' DSRS(Depression self-rating scale) score was significantly higher than the boys'. The DSRS score was increased from the 2nd grade of high school for boys and from the 1st grade of high school for girls. The Pearson correlation coefficient between age and DSRS score was 0.16(p<0.01) and that between APGAR and DSRS score was -0.45(p<0.01). The median number of psychosomatic symptoms of the past month was 6, and when students complained for more psychosomatic symptoms, the DSRS scores were higher. Those who drank or smoked ranked significantly higher in DSRS score; and, those who exercised regularly, had leisure activity, and had a faithful person for counselling ranked significantly lower in DSRS score. Conclusion : Adolescents who complained of many psychosomatic symptoms needed to be screened for depression. A primary physician have to intervene about health related behavior such as family function, smoking, exercise and relieving stress.

This research examined the elementary students' level of motivation to learn science and analyzed correlation between scientific experiences and the motivations to learn science. 216 of elementary students in the 5th grade and 207 of elementary students in the 6th grade were surveyed with questionnaire composed of Likert criteria and scientific motivation questionnaire(SMQ), and the results were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 statistics program. The results of this research are as following : First, elementary school students' level of scientific experiences appeared quite low, and boys appeared to have more scientific experiences than girls. For more specific areas, the experiences were more from outside of school rather than inside, and experiences from science class. Second, elementary students' level of motivation to learn science stood relatively high, and boys showed higher level of motivation to learn science than girls. For more specific areas, the level of motivation from internal motivation area was the highest and the lowest was that from the area of anxiety about exams. Third, the scientific experiences and motivation to learn science showed highly static correlation. Experiences both from inside and outside of the school were significantly correlated to the motivation to learn science, and those from outside of the school had higher correlation with the motivation to learn science. Therefore, the scientific experiences should be recognized to play an important role for improvement of the level of motivation to learn science, and the efforts should be made to provide the elementary students with high-quality scientific experiences to develop their level of motivation to learn science.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to measure the effects of a school safety education program based on the PRECEDE-PROCEED model for upper grade elementary students. Methods: One hundred ten 6th-grade students sampled from an elementary school in D City were divided into the education group (n=55) and the non-education group (n=55). School safety education was provided to the education group for 8 weeks and a questionnaire survey about safety knowledge, safety practice and the frequency of safety negligence was carried out before and after the education from March 2 to July 13, 2010. Results: After the application of the safety education program, the education group got a higher safety knowledge score than the non-education group (p<.001). Both the education and non-education groups showed a significantly increased safety practice score (p<.01). In the comparison of safety negligence, the education group showed lower frequency (p<.01). In addition, according to the results of ANCOVA and t-test, the school safety education program influenced safety knowledge significantly (p<.001). Conclusion: This result shows that a school safety education program based on PRECEDE- PROCEED can improve safety knowledge. Further studies will be required to develop continuous and systematic safety education programs.
After entering an elementary school, in fact, a number of children regard mathematics as one of very difficult subjects because of its abstractiveness. This is caused by the fact that their basic thinking power is not yet formed or they can not understand the special quality of mathematics. So this article emphasizes the need to build up the higher logical thought and a basic mathematical concept at the lower grade elementary school stage in which the loaming activity on mathematics begins in earnest, that is, at the stage before having an experience on the calculating activity using numbers. But at present the lower grade elementary school students in our country do not understand the special quality of mathematics composed of a various symbolic system and lay stress upon mathematics learning attached to the calculative activity. In order to make the right mathematical concept of the lower grade elementary school, the basic knowledge and ability as follows is sure to be formed. 1) the foundational logical manipulation activity and knowledge 2) the using ability of the sign and symbolic system At the stage on which mathematics learning activity begins, it is a very important task to make the right concept of the abstractive math and nurse the capability for finding mathematical relations covered under the sign system through the continuos loaming activity on . Through the basic logical manipulation activity and the game activity of sign for lower grade elementary school students mentioned in this article, they can not only foster the higher level logical thinking power and the foundational calculative ability but also bring up the interest on the activity of establishing a new problem solving strategy.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the ability level of the occupational Basic Competencies of Fisheries and Maritime(F&M) high school students using F&M basic skills scale. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, the level was analyzed with the Fisheries and Maritime ability scale, comparing each grade level & department. This study was applied to the literature and research methods. This research was conducted collecting preliminary data from 1,113 F&M high school freshman and sophomore students. This survey of 46 questions was used to measure for F&M ability scale-divided into 6 areas-marine vocational ethics, marine information capacity, marine elementary knowledge, marine safety management skill, management & utilization marine life and marine consciousness. The results of this study were as follows; First, in F&M high school students' competencies, marine vocational ethics, marine consciousness was higher, marine information capacity, marine elementary knowledge, marine safety management skill were middle, management & utilization marine life was lower. Second, in the grade level, 5 competencies(marine vocational ethics, marine information capacity, marine elementary knowledge, management & utilization life and marine consciousness) were not different, but 2 Grade was higher than 1 Grade in the marine safety management skill. Third, comparing F&M department, Maritime department were higher than fisheries in 5 competencies. But, fisheries department was higher than maritime in the management & utilization life competencies.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of knowledge and attitude on self efficacy of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in the fifth and the sixth grade of elementary school students. Methods: The participants were 242 elementary school students from A city. Data were collected from August 26 to August 27, 2013 using a questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by SPSS/WIN 19.0 using ANOVA, t-test, Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Factors affecting on self efficacy to CPR were attitude (${\beta}=.54$), religion (${\beta}=-.16$), recognition (${\beta}=.15$) and knowledge (${\beta}=.13$). These factors explain 47.0% of the variance in self efficacy. Conclusion: The results of this study show that attitude to CPR has the strongest influence on efficacy. Based on the results of this study, we suggest that customized programs and further research by using 2010 guideline are needed to develop for elementary school students.
The purpose of this study was to investigate differences of food preference and nutrient intake of students between elementary school and middle school in the same area and to provide data for better school food service. The subjects were 486 students, third to sixth grade of 3 elementary schools and first to second grade of 1 middle school in Nam jeju gun, Jeju, and the survey was conducted during June 1999. Food preference was assessed using questionnaires and 24-hour food intake was assessed using dietary record method. Data of weight and height were obtained from annual physical examination conducted at schools in May 1999. All the variables were compared among 3 groups in each gender: third and fourth grade elementary school(ES3,4), fifth and sixth grade elementary school(ES5,6), and first and second grade middle school(MS1,2). The results were summarized as follows. The average height, weight and BMI for the 3th grade boys in elementary schools met the national averages, but those of the others are below the national averages. Although general pattern of food preference looked similar among groups, food preference scores were significantly different among groups in 38 kinds foods for boys, and 27 kinds of foods for girls. MS1,2 group showed significantly lower food preference scores for most of foods as compared to those of ES3,4 and ES5,6 in both genders. Students of higher grade took more starch foods such as instant noodle, stewed rice cake and snacks. Average energy intakes of all the groups except MS1,2 girls were lower than recommended dietary allowances(RDA), and average intakes of protein, vitamins B1 and C met RDA, but the other nutrients were taken less than RDA and especially the intakes of iron, calcium and vitamins B2 were poor. Most of nutrients taken by school food service meal provided a major proportion of intakes. In conclusion, students of middle school were more particular about their foods served at school food service and marked lower food preference score than elementary school children and more conscious about their weight and appearance. These points should be reflected in planning food service menu at middle school.
The primary purpose of the study was to investigate the degree of difficulty and the causes of the difficulties in science instruction reported by elementary teachers and students. The secondary purpose was to suggest the effective methods to both of them to improve the efficiency of science instruction. For this study, the survey was carried out on 322 students and 156 teachers in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The questionnaires consisted of interest, difficulty and its factors. The results of this investigation are summarized as follows; 1. Teachers had relatively higher interest than students in science instruction content(textbook). Furthermore, the units that teachers showed interest differed from those that students had. This means that there is a significant difference of interest in instruction process between teachers and students. 2. Teachers felt much higher difficulty than students in the content of science instruction. This shows that the degree of interest might have little relation with that of difficulty, and that teaching of science seemed more difficult than teaming. Moreover, there was a difference of difficulty in the units between the teachers and students. The result shows a distinctive difference of difficulty in 8 units of the 3rd grade, 9 units n the 4th grade, and 12 units in the 5th grade (p<.05, p<.001, p<.005, respectively). It means that the difficulty depended on the units. 3. Students responded that they are responsible for difficulty factors of teaming, otherwise teachers thought that students are responsible for it, when the factors were divided into student factor, teacher factor, and curriculum factor. 4. Students demanded many experiments in the lab as well as easy and interesting instructions in order to reduce the degree of difficulty and to improve the condition of science instructions. However, teachers demanded the expansion of experimental equipments and materials as well as the improvement of the lab condition.
