  • Spectral reflectance of paddy, brown rice, milled rice, greenish grain, yellow grain and denatured grain were measured over the range of 340 to 820 nm with "Double Beam Spectrophotometer(Model UV-180)". Variation in the reflectance depending on milling degree of milled rice appeared greatest over the range of 420 to 500 nm, and that between white rice and other rice samples appeared greatest near 500 nm. On the basis of the above results, a whiteness meter to measure milling degree of rice was manufactured using tungsten lamp, photodiodes and amplifier, and its performance was compared with the existing whiteness meters (KETT and Z-II optical sensor). There were very high correlations among those whiteness meters.

  • 국산 벤토나이트를 분자량이 큰 imidazolines과 반응시켜 벤톤을 만들었으며 벤토나이트의 양이온 교환율이 100meq/100g이상이 됨을 알았다. 제조한 벤톤은 윤활유에 분산시키고 three-roll mill로 milling 한 후 그리이스를 만들었다. 이들 그리이스의 주도 (microscale로), 정상상태에서의 산화 안정도, 내수성, 및 내 마모성은 ASTM방법에 의하여 시험하였고 매우 좋은 실험결과를 얻었다.

  • The residual stress in axial direction of the steel wires has been measured by using a method based on the combination of the focused ion beam(FIB) milling and digital image correlation(DIC) program. The residual stress is calculated from the measured displacement field before and after the introduction of a slot along the steel wires. The displacement is obtained by the digital correlation analysis of high-resolution scanning electron micrographs, while the slot is introduced by FIB milling with low energy beam. The experimental procedures are described and the feasibilities are demonstrated in steel wires fabricated with different conditions. It reveals that the tensile residual stress is formed in all steel wires and this is strongly influenced by the fabrication conditions.

  • 일반계 5품종 및 다수계 7품종의 쌀의 물리, 화학적 생질의 상호관계를 조사한 결과 쌀의 평형수분함량은 아밀로스함량과 높은 부의 상관(-0.906$^{**}$ )을 보였다. 쌀의 단단함은 주로 쌀알의 폭과 용적에 영향을 받았으며 도정시간은 쌀의 단단함 및 쌀의 폭, 용적, 표면적 및 무게 등과 높은 부의 상관을 보였다. 쌀의 일반성분함량은 쌀의 단단함, 도정시간 및 평형수분함량과 상관관계를 나타내지 않았다.

Color stability of provisional restorative materials with different fabrication methods

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the color stability of provisional restorative materials fabricated by 3D printing, dental milling, and conventional materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. For the experimental groups, two commercially available 3D-printing provisional resins (E-Dent 100; EnvisionTEC GmbH, Germany & VeroGlaze™; Stratasys®, USA), two dental milling blocks (PMMA Disk; Yamahachi Dental Co., Japan & Telio®CAD; Ivoclar Vivadent AG, Liechtenstein), and two conventional materials (Alike™; GC Co., Japan & Luxatemp automix plus; DMG, Germany) were used. The water sorption and solubility test were (n=10, respectively) carried out according to ISO4049:2000 (International Standards Organization, Geneva, Switzerland). For the color stability test (n=10), coffee and black tea were used as staining solutions, and the specimens were stored for 12 weeks. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD using SPSS version 22.0 (SPSS Inc. Chicago, IL, USA) (P<.05). RESULTS. Alike and Veroglaze showed the highest values and Luxatemp showed the lowest water sorption. In the color stability test, the ΔE of conventional materials varied depending on the staining solution. PMMA milling blocks showed a relatively low ΔE up to 4 weeks, and then significantly increased after 8 weeks (P<.05). 3D-printed materials exhibited a high ΔE or a significant increase over time (P<.05). CONCLUSION. The degree of discoloration increased with time, and a visually perceptible color difference value (ΔE) was shown regardless of the materials and solutions. PMMA milled and 3D-printed materials showed more rapid change in discoloration after 8 weeks.

  • Vanadium based solid solution alloys have been studied as a potential negative electrode of Ni/MH battery due to their high hydrogen storage capacity. In order to improve the kinetic property of V-Ti alloy in KOH electrolyte, the ball-milling process with Ni, which has a catalytic effect of hydrogen absorption/desorption, was carried out to modify the surface properties of V-Ti-Cr alloys with high hydrogen storage capacity. Moreover, to overcome the problem of poor cycle life, V-Ti alloy substituted by Cr, V0.68 Ti0.20 Cr0.12, has been developed showing a good cycle performance (keeping about 80 % of initial discharge capacity after 200 cycles). The cycle life of surface-modified V0.68 Ti0.20 Cr0.12 alloy was improved by suppressing the formation of TiO2 layer on the alloy surface while decreasing the amount of dissolved vanadium in the KOH electrolyte. In order to promote the effect of Ni coating on the surface property of V0.68 Ti 0.20 Cr 0.12 alloy by ball-milling, filamentary-typed Ni, which has higher surface coverage area than sphere-typed Ni was used as a surface modifier. Consequently, the surface-modified V0.68 Ti0.20 Cr0.12 alloy electrode showed a improved discharge capacity of 460 mAh/g.

  • Ion implantation, photo-lithography, Ar ion milling과 hot press 법을 이용한 micro-fabrication techrique을 사용하여 고순도 알루미나 단결정인 사파이어의 내부에, 조절된 Ca의 첨가량을 갖고 있는, crack과 비슷한 형태의 기공들을 형성시켰다. 이 bi-cryslal을 각각의 온도에서 열처리하여 Ca 이온이 고온에서 알루미나의 morphology와 hcaling에 미치는 영향을 관찰하였다. 열처리 온도가 올라감에 따라서 crack-like pore의 내부에 hcxagonal bridging ligaments가 생성되었는데, 열처리 온도와 Ca의 첨가량이 증가할수록 크기가 커지는 것을 관찰할 수 있었고, 생성된 hexagonal bndgmg ligaments는 열처리가 진행됨에 따라 서서히 커지면서 모서리가 둥글어지는 현상을 관찰할 수 있었다. Bicrystal 내부에 형성된 crack-like pore는 열처리가 진행되면서 edge regression. ligamcnt growth 및 flow의 3가지의 특징적인 형태로 진행되었다. 이때 edge regression은 상대적으로 저온에서부터 전체 crack-like pore에서 서서히 일어나기 시작하였으며, ligament growth는 일부 crack-like pore에서 진행되있으며, 대단히 빠른 속도로 crack healing이 진행됨을 추정할 수 있었다. Flow는 $1800^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서 모든 crack-like pore에 걸쳐서 느리게 일어남을 알 수 있었다.

Application of Mechanochemical Processing for Preparation of Si3N4-based Powder Mixtures

  • Mechanochemical processing (MCP) involves several high-energy collisions of powder particles with the milling media and results in the increased reactivity/sinterability of powder. The present paper shows results of mechanochemical processing (MCP) of silicon nitride powder mixture with the relevant sintering additives. The effects of MCP were studied by structural changes of powder particles themselves as well as by the resulting sintering/densification ability. It has been found that MCP significantly enhances reactivity and sinterability of the resultant material: silicon nitride ceramics could be pressureless sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$. Nevertheless, a degree of a silicon nitride crystal lattice and powder particle destruction (amorphization) as detected by XRD studies, is limited by the specific threshold. If that value is crossed then particle's surface damage effects are prevailing thus severe evaporation overdominates mass transport at elevated temperature. It is discussed that the cross-solid interaction between particles of various chemical composition, triggered by many different factors during mechanochemical processing, including a short-range diffusion in silicon nitride particles after collisions with other types of particles plays more important role in enhanced reactivity of tested compositions than amorphization of the crystal lattice itself. Controlled deagglomeration of $Si_3N_4$ particles during the course of high-energy milling was also considered.

A Study on the Characteristics of Amorphous TiAl by P/M Processing

  • The P/M processing of titanium aluminide using amorphous TiAl is developed by which it is possible to overcome inherent fabricability problems and to obtain a fine microstructure. A high quality amorphous TiAl powder produced by reaction ball milling shows clear glass transition far below a temperature at the onset of crystallization in differential scanning calorimetry above a heating rate of 0.05 K/s. We obtained a fully dense compact of amorphous TiAl powders, encapsulated in a vacuumed can, via viscous flow by hot isostatic pressing (HIP). Isothermally annealing of HIP'ed amorphous compact under a pressure of 196 MPa shows a progressive growth of ${\gamma}-TiAl$ phase with ${\alpha}2$ ($Ti_3Al$), which is characterized by increasing sharpness of X-ray peaks with temperature. Fully dense HIP'ed compact of titanium aluminide TiAl shows a high hardness of 505 Hv, suggesting strengthening mechanisms by sub-micron sized grain of ${\gamma}-TiAl$ and particle-dispersion by second phase constituent, ${\alpha}2$.

Study on the Magnetic Characteristics of Anisotropic SmCo7-type Alloys Synthesized by High-energy Surfactant-assisted Ball Milling

  • An effective process was employed for synthesizing anisotropic magnetic $SmCo_7$-type alloy flakes with high coercivity, which is highly desirable for many applications. The highest coercivity of 16.3 kOe corresponds to a typical flake thickness of 200 nm for the 3-h ball-milled sample. The anisotropy field was calculated by measuring the parallel and perpendicular directions to the easy magnetization direction of the powders. The anisotropy field decreased with the increase of the ball milling time, thus indicating that the decrease of coercivity was mainly caused by the reduction of the anisotropy field. Microstructure analysis indicated that the morphology, grain size, and anisotropy field of these samples have a great influence on the magnetic properties.
