Thermal batteries are used for military power sources that require robustness and long storage life such as missiles and torpedoes. $FeS_2$ powder is currently used for cathode materials because of its high specific energy density, environmental non-toxicity and low cost. However, large particle size of conventional $FeS_2$ has been deterred its possible application for higher power thermal batteries. In order to improve the power density, high energy ball milling of $FeS_2$ has been introduced to crush the micron-sized $FeS_2$. Discharge characteristics of the single cells fabricated with nano-materials and conventional $FeS_2$ powder were evaluated.
This research introduces the manufacturing process of the metal-framework of one of the maxillary partial dentures, the "obturator", using milling wax-blocks, for patients with palate loss due to oral cancer. It explains the protocol of taking the patient's oral impression, preparation of a working cast, scanning, designing using a computer-aided design program, investing the milling wax-blocks, and completing the obturator. This method does not follow the traditional wax and agar process thereby reducing the errors arising during the manufacturing process and decreasing the time, material, and labor required. Moreover, the retention, stability, and compatibility of the metal framework were observed to be high in both the working cast and oral cavity.
A study was made on the fabrication of nanostructured Fe-Co powders by mechanical alloying and their magnetic properties. Microstrural development during the process of MA was inverstigated by means of X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analyzer, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The magnetic properties of NS Fe-Co powders were evaluated through the measurements of the saturation magnetization $(M_s)$ as well as the coercivity $(H_c)$. The average grain size calculated from line braodening in XRD peak was about 10nm or less and confirmed by TEM. In this experiment, two different milling methods (cycle opertion and conventional milling) were used. Cycle operation had an advantage over the conventional milling method in that more refined powders can be obtained. Solid state alloying of the components was confirmed from both the change of the saturation magnetization and the change of lattice parameter with Co contentration. Maxium $M_s$ was obtained at the composition of 30at.%Co. Relatively high coercivities of 10~150e were obtained for the compositions investigated, and this seems to be due to the high amount of internal strain introduced during milling.

In present work, amorphous TiCuNi powders were fabricated by mechanical alloying process. Amorphization and crystallization behaviors of the TiCuNi powders during high-energy ball milling and subsequent microstructure changes were studied by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope. TEM samples were prepared by the focused ion beam technique. The morphology of powders prepared with different milling times was observed by field-emission scanning electron microscope and optical microscope. The powders developed a fine, layered, homogeneous structure with milling times. The crystallization behavior showed that glass transition, $T_g$, onset crystallization, $T_x$, and super cooled liquid range ${\Delta}T=T_x-T_g$ were 628, 755 and 127K, respectively. The as-prepared amorphous TiCuNi powders were consolidated by spark plasma sintering process. Full densified TiCuNi samples were successfully produced by the spark plasma sintering process. Crystallization of the MA powders happened during sintering at 733K.

The main purpose of this paper is the preparation of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) samples from the microsized powders of lithium-ion secondary batteries. To avoid artefacts during TEM sample preparation, the use of ion slicer milling for thinning and maintaining the intrinsic structure is described. Argon-ion milling techniques have been widely examined to make optimal specimens, thereby making TEM analysis more reliable. In the past few years, the correction of spherical aberration (Cs) in scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) has been developing rapidly, which results in direct observation at an atomic level resolution not only at a high acceleration voltage but also at a deaccelerated voltage. In particular, low-kV application has markedly increased, which requires a sufficiently transparent specimen without structural distortion during the sample preparation process. In this study, sample preparation for high-resolution STEM observation is accomplished, and investigations on the crystal integrity are carried out by Cs-corrected STEM.

High speed machining for higher cutting speed and feedrate lead to a increase of surface quality and material removal rate. This paper presents a study of the influence of cutting conditions on the vibration characteristics obtained by machining with face milling cutter for high speed machining. In this paper, Taguchi experimental design method which is based on orthogonal array table was applied to study vibration characteristics with high speed face milling cutter. The experimental conditions used orthogonal array of $L_{27}(3^{13})$. In this work, design and analysis of experiments is conducted to study the effects of these parameters on the vibration by using the S/N ratio, analysis of variance. Four cutting parameters namely, feed rate, champer length, cutting speed, and depth of cut were optimized with consideration of vibration characteristics.

High Energy Milling (HEM) is applied for the grinding of cement and this can lead to substantial refinement $(<2{\mu}m)$ and mechanically activation of the powder particles. The present paper reviews the preliminary studies, explains the novel technique and suggests the route into commercial application. Particular attention is paid to wear results with an applied $Si_3N_4-grinding$ unit where no substantial wear was found after 4000 h of operation.

This paper suggests another system for a cutting force measuring tool in a milling process. Generally, tool dynamometer is taken into account for the most appropriate cutting force measuring tool in the analysis of cutting mechanism. However, high price and limited space make it difficult to be in-situ system for controllable milling process. Although an alternative method using AC current of servo-motor has been suggested, it is unsuitable for cutting force control because of small upper frequency limit and noise. The cutting force measuring system is composed of two load cells placed between the moving table bracket and the nut flange part of ballscrew. It has many advantages such as low cost and wide range measurement than tool dynamometer because of the built-in moving table and the low cost load cell. The static and dynamic model of the measuring system using imbeded load cell is introduced. Various Experiments are carried out to validate both models. By comparing the cutting forces from a series of end milling experiments on the tool dynamometer and the system developed in this paper, the accuracy of the cutting force measuring system is verified. Upper frequency limit is measured by the experiment of dynamic characteristics.
Mechanical alloying process of Al-8wt.% Ni powder was investigated for the various milling time in order to get the steady state powder. High temperature deformation behaviors of the sintered specimens were investigated by activation energy calculated after high temperature compression tests at the strain rates of 2.5$\times$10-3 s-1, 2.5$\times$10-2 s-1 and 2.5$\times$10-1 s-1 at the temperature range between $350^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$. The steady state was obtained after 1000 minutes of milling with the PCA of 1.5 wt.% stearic acid under the condition of grinding media to powder weight ratio of 50 : 1 and impeller rotating speed of 300 rpm. True activation energy of Al-8wt.% Fe alloy was estimated to be 181 kJ/mole at the temperature range of 350~ $400^{\circ}C$ and 265 kJ/mole at the range of 400~$450^{\circ}C$.

Co-ferrite was synthesized by HEBM (High Energy Ball Milling) with a stoichiometric (Co/Fe=0.5/2.5) mixture of CoO and $Fe_2O_3$ powders. The effect of milling time on the phase transformation of the mixture was investigated by XRD. Mono-phase solid solution of Co-ferrite, which was milled for 4 h and then calcined at $900^{\circ}C$ in the Ar atmosphere, was confirmed by XRD analysis. The composition and thermal reduction behavior of Co-ferrite were analyzed by TGA and XRF. As a result, oxygen deficient Co-ferrite was synthesized by HEBM and the weight decrease of the Co-ferrite, which was oxidized at $600^{\circ}C$ for 10h by $H_2O$ vapor, was 2.41 wt% during thermal reduction at $1300^{\circ}C$.
