  • The fundamental properties of High Performance Concrete(HPC) were studied using high flowable portland cement which was developed at the Sangyong Cement Ind. Co.,Ltd. The results obtained are as follows. (1)The slump of HPC using high flowable portland cement maintains for 120min. (2)Ultra high strength greater than 800kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ can be designed without using silica fume and other additives. (3)The value of drying shrinkage and adiabatic temperature rise of HPC are less than those of concrete made with OPC.

  • High-performance concrete (HPC) usually has higher paste and lower coarse aggregate volumes than normal concrete. The lower aggregate content of HPC can affect the shear capacity of concrete members due to the formation of smooth fractured surfaces and the subsequent development of weak interface shear transfer. Therefore, an experimental investigation was conducted to study the shear strength and cracking behavior of full-scale reinforced beams made with low-cement-content high-performance concrete (LcHPC) as well as conventional HPC. A total of fourteen flexural reinforced concrete (RC) beams without shear reinforcements were tested under a two-point load until shear failure occurred. The primary design variables included the cement content, the shear span to effective depth ratio (a/d), and the tensile steel ratio (${\rho}_w$). The results indicate that LcHPC beams show comparable behaviors in crack and ultimate shear strength as compared with conventional HPC beams. Overall, the shear strength of LcHPC beams was found to be larger than that of corresponding HPC beams, particularly for an a/d value of 1.5. In addition, the crack and ultimate shear strength increased as a/d decreased or ${\rho}_w$ increased for both LcHPC beams and HPC beams. This investigation established that LcHPC is recommendable for structural concrete applications.

  • This paper investigated the drying and autogenous shrinkage of high performance concrete(HPC) with mixture adjustment under various specimen size. For fresh concrete properties, HPC with mixture adjustment need a higher dosage of SP agent due to fluidity reduction, and a larger dosage of AE agent due to the reduction of air content. HPC with mixture adjustment exhibited a smaller strength development than control HPC. For drying shrinkage, an increase in specimen size occurred with small expansion during water curing and at air curing, less drying shrinkage was observed. Autogenous shrinkage was not affected by specimen size. Autogenous shrinkage of HPC with mixture adjustment exhibited less than half of control HPC.

  • High Performance Concrete(HPC) has been widely used in high-rise building. The HPC has several benefits including high strength, high fluidity and high durability. However. spatting is susceptible to occur in HPC and HPC also tends to be deteriorated in the side of fire resistance performance at fire. This paper focuses on the analysis of the temperature history and residual compressive strength with finishing material, in order to protect HPC from sudden-high-temperature, which is one of the main reason spatting occurs. Test results show that spalling occurs in all specimens. The most serious spalling took placed in HPC covering fire enduring spray-on material, whose covering thickness is 20mm but temperature history indicates that fire enduring spray effectively protected HPC from fire for more than 2hours. In addition, residual compressive strength ratio of HPC using fire enduring paint was more than $90\%$ of original strength, thus minimizing spatting and indicating significant fire resistance performance.

  • High performance concrete (HPC) is widely used in civil engineering due to its high durability and low permeability etc. Compared with ordinary concrete, HPC may develop much higher AS (autogenous shrinkage) at early age due to the relative low water cement (w/c) ratio and adding of mineral admixtures, which is one of the main reasons for early age micro-cracking of HPC structures. This paper studies the early age property of HPC columns under similar construction-site surroundings by embedded strain transducers. Results show that for HPC structure, early-age autogenous shrinkage especially within the first day after concrete pouring is pretty large. AS within the first day are 60% larger than those for 14 days in this research for all specimens. Therefore it should be taken into account for structure durability. By comparison of PHPC (plain HPC column) and RHPC (reinforced HPC column) specimens, the effects of reinforced bars on AS and temperature distribution have been analyzed. Also the influence of w/c ratio on AS is demonstrated.

  • This study is aimed for manufacturing a High performance Concrete(HPC) Pile as using steel fibers, investigation the mechanical properties of HPC Pile and proposition the potential application. At this study. We found that mechanical properties(cracking moment and fracture moment) of Pretensioned spun High strength Concrete (PHC) Pile using steel fibers is much superior to without steel fibers. Therefore. we think that using steel fibers in Concrete Pile is to progress flexural strength energy absorption capacity and post-cracking resistance.

  • This study aims to develop a cost-based high-performance concrete (HPC) mix optimization system based on an integrated approach using artificial neural networks (ANNs) and genetic algorithms (GA). ANNs are used to predict the three main properties of HPC, namely workability, strength and durability, which are used to evaluate fitness and constraint violations in the GA process. Multilayer back-propagation neural networks are trained using the results obtained from experiments and previous research. The correlation between concrete components and its properties is established. GA is employed to arrive at an optimal mix proportion of HPC by minimizing its total cost. A system prototype, called High Performance Concrete Mix-Design System using Genetic Algorithm and Neural Networks (HPCGANN), was developed in MATLAB. The architecture of the proposed system consists of three main parts: 1) User interface; 2) ANNs prediction models software; and 3) GA engine software. The validation of the proposed system is carried out by comparing the results obtained from the system with the trial batches. The results indicate that the proposed system can be used to enable the design of HPC mix which corresponds to its required performance. Furthermore, the proposed system takes into account the influence of the fluctuating unit price of materials in order to achieve the lowest cost of concrete, which cannot be easily obtained by traditional methods or trial-and-error techniques.

  • This paper focuses on the application of Fuller's ideal gradation curve to theoretically design blended ratio of all solid materials of high performance concrete (HPC), with the aid of error function, and then to study the effect of rice husk ash (RHA) on the performance of HPC. The residual RHA, generated when burning rice husk pellets at temperatures varying from 600 to $800^{\circ}C$, was collected at steam boilers in Vietnam. The properties of fresh and hardened concrete are reviewed. It is possible to obtain the RHA concrete with comparable or better properties than those of the specimen without RHA with lower cement consumption. High flowing concrete designed by the proposed method was obtained without bleeding or segregation. The application of the proposed method for HPC can save over 50% of the consumption of cement and limit the use of water. Its strength efficiency of cement in HPC is 1.4-1.9 times higher than that of the traditional method. Local standards of durability were satisfied at the age of 91 days both by concrete resistivity and ultrasonic pulse velocity.

  • High performance concrete (HPC) has been extensively used in thin overlay for repair purpose due to its excellent strength and durability. This paper presents an experiment, where the sensor-instrumented HPC overlays have been followed by dynamic strain and moisture content monitoring for 1 year, under normal traffic. The vibrating wire and soil moisture sensors were embedded in overlay before construction. Four given HPC mixes (2 original mixes and their shrinkage-modified mixes) were used for overlays to contrast the strain and moisture results. A calibration method to accurately measure the moisture content for a given concrete mixture using soil moisture sensor was established. The monitoring results indicated that the modified mixes performed much better than the original mixes in shrinkage cracking control. Weather condition and concrete maturity at early age greatly affected the strain in concrete. The strain in HPC overlay was primarily in longitudinal direction, leading to transverse cracks. Additionally, the most moisture loss in concrete occurred at early age. Its rate was very dependent on weather. After one year, cracking survey was carried out by vision to verify the strain direction and no cracks observed in shrinkage modified mixes.
