  • The Sr2Co0.5Nb(Ta)0.5O4 and Sr3CoNb(Ta)O7 compounds, both with Ruddlesden-Popper structures, have been synthesized by the ceramic method at $1150^{\circ}C$ under atmospheric pressure. The crystallographic structure of the compounds was assigned to the tetr agonal system with space group 14/mmm by X-ray diffraction(XRD) Rietveld refinement. The reduced lattice volume and lattice parameters increased as the Ta with 5d substitutes for the Nb with 4d in the compounds. The Co/Nb(Ta)O bond length has been determined by X-ray absorption spectroscopic(EXAFS/XANES) analysis and the XRD refinement. The CoO6,octahedra were tetragonally distorted by elongation of Co-O bond along the c-axis. The magnetic measurement shows the compounds Sr2Co0.5Nb(Ta)0.5O4 and Sr3CoNb(Ta)O7 have paramagnetic properties and the Co ions with intermediate spin sates between high and low spins in D4h symmetry. All the compounds showed semiconducting behavior whose electrical conductivity increased with temperature up to 1000 K. The electrical conductiviy increased and the activation energy for the conduction decreased as the number of perovskite layers increased in the compounds with chemical formula An+1BnO3n+1.

  • The properties of powder metallurgy products are related to their densities. In the present work, we demonstrate a method to apply artificial neural networks (ANNs) trained on experimental data to predict the bulk density of barium titanates. The density is modeled as a function of pressure, press rate, heating rate, sintering temperature, and soaking time using the ANN method. The model predictions with the training and testing data result in a high coefficient of correlation (R2 = 0.95 and Pearson's r = 0.97) and low average error. Moreover, a graphical user interface for the model is developed on the basis of the transformed weights of the optimally trained model. It facilitates the prediction of an infinite combination of process parameters with reasonable accuracy. Sensitivity analysis performed on the ANN model aids the identification of the impact of process parameters on the density of barium titanates.

  • Numerical simulations of the steady and unsteady state were conducted for a coaxial swirl injector with Kerosene fuel. Non-premixed equilibrium model based on chemical equilibrium assumption was used as turbulence-chemistry interaction model. As an equations of state, SRK(Soave-Redlich-Kwong) EOS was applied to deal with the behavior of real fluid in a high pressure condition. Through the steady and unsteady computations, mean values of steady and time-averaged unsteady state were compared on the temperature and OH mass fraction and it was shown that the flame structure of steady state was different to that of time-averaged unsteady state.

  • Resently, Fiber Reinforced Concrete is used for not only preventing crack of concrete but also reinforcing general methods. Steel Fiber and PP(poly-propylene) Fiber are usually used as fiber reinforced materials. However, using these materials for shotcrete on Railway tunnel can cause some problems such as damage of pressure hose and shotcrete rebound. In addition, Steel fiber is an expensive material and it can cause safety problems during applying to shotcrete. PP Fiber can cause a problem in fiber balling during applying to shotcrete railway tunnel construction. A purpose of the research is applying a development of PET(Poly Etylene Terephtalate) fiber by recycling pet bottles to the shotcrete tunnel exposed to explosion spalling. To investigate the reinforcement effect of the PET fiber, some basic tests are accomplished to physical properties and explosion spalling by fire. As a result of the tests, a concrete mixing the PET fiber has stronger resistance effect in the explosion spalling by high temperature than another strong fiber concrete does, and that the former concrete is also equal or more effective on the result of the above tests to physical properties like compression and strain than the latter one is demonstrated.

  • A total loss of all heat sinks is considered a severe accident with a low probability of occurrence. Following a total loss of all heat sinks, the degasser/condenser relief valves (DCRV) become the sole means available for the depressurization of the primary heat transport system. If a nuclear power plant has a total loss of heat sinks accident, high-temperature steam and differential pressure between the primary heat transport system (PHTS) and the steam generator (SG) secondary side can cause a SG tube creep rupture. To protect the PHTS during a total loss of all heat sinks accident, a sufficient depressurization capability of the degasser/condenser relief valve and the SG tube integrity is very important. Therefore, an accurate estimation of the discharge through these valves is necessary to assess the impact of the PHTS overprotection and the SG tube integrity of the primary circuit. This paper describes the analysis of DCRV discharge capacity and the SG tube integrity under a total loss of all heat sink using the CATHENA code. It was found that the DCRV's discharge capacity is enough to protect the overpressure in the PHTS, and the SG tube integrity is maintained in a total loss of all heat accident.

  • In a postulated severe core damage accident in a PHWR, multiple failures of core cooling systems may lead to the collapse of pressure tubes and calandria tubes, which may ultimately relocate inside the calandria vessel forming a terminal debris bed. The debris bed, which may reach high temperatures due to the decay heat, is cooled by the moderator in the calandria. With time, the moderator is evaporated and after some time, a hot dry debris bed is formed. The debris bed transfers heat to the calandria vault water which acts as the ultimate heat sink. However, the questions remain: how long would the vault water be an ultimate heat sink, and what would be the failure mode of the calandria vessel if the heat sink capability of the reactor vault water is lost? In the present study, a numerical analysis is performed to evaluate the thermal loads and the stresses in the calandria vessel following the above accident scenario. The heat transfer from the molten corium pool to the surrounding is assumed to be by a combination of radiation, conduction, and convection from the calandria vessel wall to the vault water. From the temperature distribution in the vessel wall, the transient thermal loads have been evaluated. The strain rate and the vessel failure have been evaluated for the above scenario.

  • Large-diameter hydraulic devices such as the hydraulic reservoir in aircraft that serves to balance the hydraulic pressure in the various hydraulic devices in the cabin and to store hydraulic oil are operated by the internal piston systems. However, since this operates in an environment with high temperature and humidity, it may cause the inner surface to flake during its operation. Therefore, an anodizing surface treatment is applied to improve the corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, and smooth operation. However, anodizing increases the surface roughness. Accordingly, the polishing process that improves the surface roughness after anodizing is important. However, the existing polishing process is performed manually, which results in an inefficient process. Therefore, in this study, we selected the optimum polishing conditions for effective polishing using the experimental design to improve the polishing process for the $Al_2O_3$ film that forms after anodization. Through experiments, we confirmed that the surface uniformity after polishing was superior as the feed rate was slower when the same polishing time had been applied.

  • Methanol is a liquid fuel which could also be produced from renewable energy sources and has appreciably high energy density. In this work, we investigated the application of $Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{2-x}$ supported Cu and Ni catalysts for hydrogen production via methanol steam reforming. Catalysts were synthesized by solution combustion synthesis. The prepared catalysts with various active materials and Cu loading amounts were tested in a reactor at $200-300^{\circ}C$, 0-5 barg range and steam to methanol molar ratio was 1.5. The catalytic properties of Cu and Ni were compared, and the catalytic performance was shown to depend on the amounts of metal loading and operating conditions such as reaction temperature and pressure.

  • The effective surface of lens was studied for injection molding process and to enable mass production of f-theta lens, which is the primary component of laser printers and laser scanning systems. Injection molding is an optimal method if f-theta lens is frequently used for the mass production of plastic lenses as an aspherical lens that requires ultra-precision. A uniform injection molding system should be maintained to produce high quality lenses. Additionally, to maintain these injection molding systems, various factors such as pressure, speed, temperature, mold and cooling should be considered. However, a lens with the optical characteristics of an f-theta lens can be obtained. The effects of melting and cooling of plastic resin on the effective surface of f-theta lenses and the numerous factors that affect the injection molding process were studied.
