  • Mn-substituted $BiFeO_3$(BFO) thin films were prepared by r.f. magnetron sputtering under an Ar/$O_2$ mixture of various deposition pressures at room temperature. The effects of the deposition pressure and annealing temperature on the crystallization and electrical properties of BFO films were investigated. X-ray diffraction patterns revealed that BFO films were crystallized for films annealed above $500^{\circ}C$. BFO films annealed at $550^{\circ}C$ for 5 min in $N_2$ atmosphere exhibited the crystallized perovskite phase. The (Fe+Mn)/Bi ratio decreased with an increase in the deposition pressure due to the difference of sputtering yield. The grain size and surface roughness of films increased with an increase in the deposition pressure. The dielectric constant of BFO films prepared at various conditions shows $127{\sim}187$ at 1 kHz. The leakage current density of BFO films annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ was approximately two orders of magnitude lower than that of $550^{\circ}C$. The leakage current density of the BFO films deposited at $10{\sim}30\;m$ Torr was about $5{\times}10^{-6}{\sim}3{\times}10^{-2}A/cm^2$ at 100 kV/cm. Due to the high leakage current, saturated P-E curves were not obtained in BFO films. BFO film annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ exhibited remnant polarization(2Pr) of $26.4{\mu}C/cm^2$ at 470 kV/cm.

  • The volume expansion of three ionic liquids (ILs) in the presence of supercritical carbon dioxide has been measured at pressures up to 32 MPa and at temperatures from 313.15 to 333.15 K in a high-pressure view cell. The imidazolium-derivative ionic liquids 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim][$PF_6$]), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([bmim][$BF_4$]), and 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([omim][$BF_4$]) were employed in this research. The effects of pressure, temperature, nature of anion and cation as well as the water content on the volume expansion of ILs by absorbing $CO_2$ were investigated experimentally. The volume expansion was higher for the ILs with longer cationic alkyl group and for the ILs with lower anion polarity. The lower the water content, the lower the temperature, or the higher the pressure, the higher was the expansion of IL phase.

  • Solubility data of carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) in poly(ethylene glycol) dimethyl ether (PEGDME) are presented at pressures up to about 50 bar and at temperatures between 303 K and 343 K. The solubilities of $CO_2$ were determined by measuring the bubble point pressures of the $CO_2+PEGDME$ mixtures with various compositions using a high-pressure equilibrium apparatus equipped with a variable-volume view cell. To observe the effect of the PEGDME molecular weight on the $CO_2$ solubility, the $CO_2$ solubilities in PEGDME with two kinds of molecular weight were compared. As the equilibrium pressure increased, the $CO_2$ solubility in PEGDME increased. On the other hand, the $CO_2$ solubility decreased with increasing temperature. When compared at the same temperature and pressure, the PEGDME with a higher molecular weight gave smaller $CO_2$ solubility on a mass fraction and molality basis, but gave greater $CO_2$ solubilities on a mole fraction basis.

  • In this study, Si anisotropic etching characteristics of tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH)/ ammonium persulfate(AP)/isopropyl alcohol(IPA) solutions were investigated to realize the optimum structure of a diaphragm for the piezoresistive pressure sensor application. Due to its low toxicity and its high compatibility with the CMOS processing, TMAH was used as Si anisotropic etchants. The variations of Si etch rate on the etching temperature, TMAH concentration, and etching time were obtained. With increasing the etching temperature and decreasing TMAH concentrations, the Si etch rate is increased while a significant non-unifonnity exists on the etched surface because of formation of hillocks on the (100) surface. The addition of IPA to TMAH solution leads to smoother etched surfaces but, makes the Si etch rate lower. However, with the addition of AP to TMAH solution, the Si etch rate is increased and an improvement in flatness on the etching front is observed. The Si etch rate is also maximized with increasing the number of addition of AP to TMAH solution per one hour. The Si square membranes of 20${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness and l00-400${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ one-side length were fabricated successfully by applying optimum Si etching conditions of TMAH/AP solutions.

  • Kinetic studies of the reaction of benzyl benzenesulfonate with pyridine in acetone were carried out by the electric conductivity method under 1 to 2000 bars and at 20 to $40^{\circ}C$. The rate increases with increasing pressure and temperature. The activation enthalpy $({\Delta}H^{\neq}),\;entropy\;({\Delta}S^{\neq})$ and activation volume $({\Delta}V^{\neq})$ of the reaction are obtained by the above experiment. The isokinetic relationship between $({\Delta}H^{\neq})\;and\;({\Delta}S^{\neq})$ for pressure change in the reaction was shown, and its isokinetic temperature was $342^{\circ}K$. From all of the above results it was found that this reaction precedes on the $S_N2$ reaction mechanism in which the rate of the reaction was determined by $C{\cdots}N$ bond formation at transition state.

  • NIL (nanoimprint lithography) technique has demonstrated a high potential for wafer size definition of nanometer as well as micrometer size patterns. During the replication process by NIL, the stiction between the stamp and the polymer is one of major problems. This stiction problem is moi·e important in small sized patterns. An antistiction layer prevents this stiction ana insures a clean demolding process. In this paper, we were using a TCP (transfer coupled plasma) equipment and $C_4F_8$ as a precursor to make a Teflon-like antistiction layer. This antistiction layer was deposited on a 6 inch silicon wafer to have nanometer scale thicknesses. The thickness of deposited antistiction layer was measured by ellipsometry. To optimize the process factor such as table height (TH), substrate temperature (ST), working pressure (WP) and plasma power (PP), we were using a design of experimental (DOE) method. The table of full factorial arrays was set by the 4 factors and 2 levels. Using this table, experiments were organized to achieve 2 responses such as deposition rate and non-uniformity. It was investigated that the main effects and interaction effects between parameters. Deposition rate was in proportion to table height, working pressure and plasma power. Non-uniformity was in proportion to substrate temperature and working pressure. Using a response optimization, we were able to get the optimized deposition condition at desired deposition rate and an experimental deposition rate showed similar results.

  • In this study, forming of carbon composite parts was performed using an injection/compression molding process. An impregnation of matrix is determined by ability of wet and flow rate between the matrix and reinforcement. The flow rate of matrix passing through the reinforcements is a function of permeability of reinforcement, a viscosity of matrix and pressure gradient on molding, and the viscosity of the matrix depends on the mold temperature, molding pressure and shear strain of matrix. Therefore, compression molding experiment was conducted using a heating mold in order to confirm the possibility of matrix impregnation. The impregnation of the matrix through the porosities between the woven yarns was confirmed by the cross-sectional SEM image of compression molded parts. An injection molding process was also performed at a short cycle time, high molding pressure and low mold temperature than those of compression experiment conditions. Deterioration of impregnation on the surface of molded parts were caused by these injection conditions and it could be the reason of decreasing the maximum tensile strength. In order to improve impregnation of matrix on the surface, injection/compression molding and insert-over molding were applied. As a result of applying injection/compression molding and insert-over molding, it was shown that the improvement of impregnation on the surface and the maximum tensile strength was increased about 2.8 times than the virgin matrix.

  • The dependence of polarographic parameters on pressure and temperature for the reduction of 2.0 ${\times}\;10^{-4}$M 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN) and 5.0 ${\times}\;10^{-4}$M 4-(2-pyridylazo)-resorcinol(PAR) in buffered methanol-water mixed solution at the dropping mercury electrode, has been discussed. In this experiment the temperature is varied from 25$^{\circ}C$ to 35$^{\circ}C$ and the pressure is ranging from 1 atmosphere to 1,800 atmospheres. The reduction half-wave potentials are shifted to the more positive potentials with increase in pressure. The diffusion currents of two depolarizers become considerably larger with increase in pressure from 1 atmosphere to about 1,000 atmospheres but are getting smaller above 1,000 atmospheres. The slopes of log plot become much larger with increase in pressure, which indicates the more irreversible reduction. The reduction currents of two depolarizers are found to be diffusion controlled over all pressure ranges. The linear relationships between diffusion current and the concentration of two depolarizers are good agreement over all pressure ranges (1 atm∼1,800atm.).

  • High-pressure synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction experiments were performed on natural illite (K0.65Al2(Al0.65Si3.35)O10(OH)2) using diamond anvil cell (DAC) under two different pressure transmitting media (PTM), i.e., water and ME41 (methanol:ethanol = 4:1 by volume). When using water as PTM, occasional heating was applied up to about 250℃ while reaching pressure up to 2.7 GPa in order to promote both hydrostatic conditions and intercalation of water molecules into the layer. When using ME41, pressure was reached up to 6.9 GPa at room temperature. Under these conditions, illite did not show any expansion of interlayer distance or phase transitions. Pressure-volume data were used to derive bulk moduli (K0) of 45(3) GPa under water and 51(3) GPa under ME41 PTM. indicating no difference in compressibility within the analytical error. Linear compressibilities were then calculated to be βa = 0.0025, βb = 0.0029, βc = 0.0144 under ME41 PTM showing the c-axis is ca. six times more compressible than a- and b-axes. These elastic behaviors of illite were compared to muscovite, one of its structural analogues.

  • In this study, the thermal desorption-cryofocusing-gas chromatographic(TD-C-GC) method was developed for determination of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) in ambient air and was applied at the municipal solid waste landfill sites. On-column cryofocusing was possible only with a 100 ml dewars bottle in TD-C-GC method with a stainless steel column. However, high operating pressure was needed for purging VOCs from the absorbent trap, which was able to solve by pressure programming with a electric pressure controller. By using both pressure and temperature programming brought increasing of resolution power in on-column cryofocusing method, but the high pressure caused a leakage of sample tube with repeated use. A loop cryofocusing devise was also developed and compared with the direct on-column method. In loop cryofocusing method, VOCs were concentrated on a 0.8mm i.d. loop which is located between the injector and separation column by using liquid nitrogen. In order to purge VOCs from the absorbent trap, only 0.4 psi of pressure was need in the loop cryofocusing method. Dual detection system was applied for the analysis of VOCs; a FID was used for hydrocarbons and a FPD was used for sulfur-containing compounds. Qualitative analysis was done by on-column cryofocusing GC-MS system. Among the large number of VOCs, toluene was the most abundant. Hydrogen sulfide, dimethyl sulfide, carbon disulfide, dimethyl disulfide and methyl propyl disulfide were detected at landfill site by FPD.
