  • Low-cycle environmental fatigue tests of cast austenitic stainless steel CF8M at the condition of fatigue strain rate 0.04%/sec were conducted at the pressure and temperature, 15MPa, $315^{\circ}C$ of a operating pressurized water reactor (PWR). The used test rig was limited to install an extensometer at the gauge length of the cylindrical fatigue specimen inside a small autoclave. So the magnet type LVDT#s were used to measure the fatigue displacement at the specimen shoulders inside the high temperature and high pressure water autoclave. However, the displacement and strain measured at the specimen shoulders is different from the one at the gauge length for the geometry and the cyclic strain hardening effect. Displacement of the fatigue specimen gauge length calculated by FEM (finite element method) used to modify the measured displacement and fatigue life at the shoulders. A series of low cycle fatigue life tests in air and PWR conditions simulating the cyclic strain hardening effect verified that the FEM modified fatigue life was well agreed with the simulating test results. The process and method developed in this study for the environmental fatigue test inside the small sized autoclave would be so useful to produce reliable environmental fatigue curves of CF8M stainless steel in pressurized water reactors.

  • The aim of this study was to optimize a solid solution treatment for a high pressure die casting Al-10Si-0.3Mg-0.6Mn alloy to avoid blistering and to improve the strength of the alloy. To achieve this goal, the number density of the blisters and the strength of the alloy under various solid solution treatment (SST) conditions were evaluated. The SST was performed at 470, 490, 510 and 530℃ for 20, 60, 120, 240 and 480 min on the alloy. The number density of the blisters increased with the increasing temperature and time of the SST and the defect area fraction. The yield strength of the alloy after the T6 heat treatment increased with the increasing SST temperature and time. Based on the results, it is suggested that SST should be performed at 510℃ within 60 min. or at 470 and 490℃ within 240 min. to avoid blistering and to improve the strength.

  • Tritium was attracted with high energy source in neutron fusion energy systems. A number of research was performed in tritium storage materials. The Korea was raised storage and delivery systems (SDS) of international thermonuclear experimental reactor (ITER) research. However, bottles of SDS would be important because of stability. The bottles have a welding zone, this zone will be vulnerable to hydrogen embrittlement. This zone have a high thermodynamic energy and heat deterioration. Therefore bottles were studied about hydrogen embrittlement to retain stability. The heat treatment of hydrogen was carried under pressure-composition-temperature (PCT) apparatus because of checking at real time. And then, mechanical properties were evaluated by tensile test and hardness test. In results of this study, hydrogen atmosphere condition is very important by tensile test and kinetics test. The samples were evaluated, that is more weak hydrogen pressure, increasing temperature and time. This results could be useful in SDS bottle designs.

  • High temperature and pressure materials in power plant are degraded by creep damage, if they are exposed to constant loads for long times, which occurs in the load bearing structures of pressurized components operating at elevated temperatures. Many conventional measurement techniques such as replica method, electric resistance method, and hardness test method for measuring creep damage have been used. So far, the replica method is mainly used for the Inspection of High temperature and pressure components. This technique is, however, restricted to applications at the surface of the testpieces and cannot be used to material inside. In this paper, ultrasonic evaluation for the detection of creep damage in the form of cavaties on grain boundaries or integranular microcracks are carried out. And the absolute measuring method of quantitative ultrasonic velocity technique for Cr-Mo material degradation is analyzed. As a result of ultrasonic tests for crept specimens, we find that the sound velocity is decreased as the increase of creep life fraction$({\Phi}_c)$ and also, confirmed that hardness is decreased as the increase of creep life fraction$({\Phi}_c)$ but the coefficient of ultrasonic attenuation is increased as the increase of creep life fraction$({\Phi}_c)$. Finally based on the result in this paper, it can be recognized that the ultrasonic techniques using velocities and attenuation coefficient factor are very useful non-destructive methods to evaluate the degree of material degradation in fossile power plants.

  • Numerical studies were conducted to investigate the internal flow field and combustion characteristics of DISI engine with methanol blended in gasoline. Dual injection was applied and the characteristics were compared to single injection strategy. The amount of the fuel injection was corresponded to air-fuel ratio of each fuel for complete combustion. The preforming model in this study, software STAR-CD was employed for both modeling and solving. The operating speed condition were at 4000 rpm/WOT (Wide open throttle) where the engine was fully warmed. The results of single injection with M28 showed that the uniformity, equivalence ratio, in-cylinder pressure and temperature increased comparing to gasoline (M0). When dual injection was applied, there was no significant change in uniformity and equivalence ratio but the in-cylinder pressure and temperature increased. When M28 fuel and single injection was applied, the CO (Carbon monoxide) and NO (Nitrogen oxides) emission inside the combustion chamber increased approximately 36%, 9% comparing with benchmarking case in cylinder prior to TWC (Three Way Catalytic converter). When dual stage injection was applied, both CO and NO emission amount increased.

  • This experimental work described the effect of flow control valve type on the performance of wobble plate type fuel pump for the stable DME fuel supply. In order to study this, different four types of flow control valves (ITV, SCV, IMV and MPROP) were installed on the wobble plate fuel pump, and fuel flow rate, torque, and temperature variation of pump were investigated under various operating conditions by using pump performance test system. It was revealed that wobble plate type fuel pump worked well with ITV and SCV control valve, and the flow rate and torque of fuel pump was in proportion to the value of valve open duty. The maximum flow rate and torque of fuel pump were achieved around the 50% duty of control valve. Temperature variation at all pump measuring points were under $60^{\circ}C$ which is acceptable.

  • Changes in the surface morphology and light scattering of textured Al doped ZnO thin films on glass substrates prepared by rf magnetron sputtering were investigated. As-deposited ZnO:Al films show a high transmittance of above 80% in the visible range and a low electrical resistivity of $4.5{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. The surface morphology of textured ZnO:Al films are closely dependent on the deposition parameters of heater temperature, working pressure, and etching time in the etching process. The optimized surface morphology with a crater shape is obtained at a heater temperature of $350^{\circ}C$, working pressure of 0.5 mtorr, and etching time of 45 seconds. The optical properties of light transmittance, haze, and angular distribution function (ADF) are significantly affected by the resulting surface morphologies of textured films. The film surfaces, having uniformly size-distributed craters, represent good light scattering properties of high haze and ADF values. Compared with commercial Asahi U ($SnO_2$:F) substrates, the suitability of textured ZnO:Al films as front electrode material for amorphous silicon thin film solar cells is also estimated with respect to electrical and optical properties.

  • The "Barents Oscillation (BO)", first designated by Paul Skeie (2000), is an anomalous recurring atmospheric circulation pattern of high relevance for the climate of the Nordic Seas and Siberia, which is defined as the second Emperical Orthogonal Function (EOF) of monthly winter sea level pressure (SLP) anomalies, where the leading EOF is the Arctic Oscillation (AO). BO, however, did not attracted much interest. In recent two decades, variability of BO tends to increase. In this study, we analyzed the spatio-temporal structures of Atmospheric internal modes such as Arctic Oscillation (AO) and Barents Oscillation (BO) and examined how these are related with Arctic warming in recent decade. We identified various aspects of BO, not dealt in Skeie (2000), such as upper-level circulation and surface characteristics for extended period including recent decade and examined link with other surface variables such as sea-ice and sea surface temperature. From the results, it was shown that the BO showed more regionally confined spatial pattern compared to AO and has intensified during recent decade. The regional dipolelar structure centered at Barents sea and Siberia was revealed in both sea-level pressure and 500 hPa geopotential height. Also, BO showed a stronger link (correlation) with sea-ice and sea surface temperature especially over Barents-Kara seas suggesting it is playing an important role for recent Arctic amplification. BO also showed high correlation with Ural Blocking Index (UBI), which measures seasonal activity of Ural blocking. Since Ural blocking is known as a major component of Eurasian winter monsoon and can be linked to extreme weathers, we suggest deeper understanding of BO can provide a missing link between recent Arctic amplification and increase in extreme weathers in midlatitude in recent decades.

  • The objective of the study was to obtain the compressive the tensile and the fleniril strengthes, thermal resistance, chemical resistance and fire resistance of the reclaimed plastic corcrete in order to investigate the feasibility as a new construction material This reclaimed plastic concrete is a compositive material which is composed of sand and blend of 50% of LDPE(Low density polyethylene) and 50% of HDPE (High density polyethylene) which are inexpensive and easy to reclaim. The results obtained in the study are summarized as follows: 1. As the binder content ranging from 20 to 40 % increase, the compresie, the splitting tensile and the flexural strengthes were increased. The compressive strenzth of the specimen tested was the highest and flexural strength the next and tensile strength the lowest 2. The compressive, the tensile and flexural strengthes of specimens made of fine sand were higher than those of coarse sand. The compressive, the tensile and the flexural strengthes of specimens made of high pressure molding were higher than those of low pressure molding. 3.In comparison with different additives, the specimens with carbon black was excellent and B. H. T. good and ferric oxide poor for thermal resistance. 4. In relationship between the flexural strength with varying temperature from -23$^{\circ}C$ to 80$^{\circ}C$. The flexural strengthes were decreared as temperature increased at 25 %, 30 % and 35 % of binder contents, respectively. Especially at 60$^{\circ}C$, the flexural strength was significantly decreased. 5. The decrement of flexural strengthes and the weight losses after 7 days immersion in acid or alkali solutions were not significant. 6. Fire resistance of the reclaimed plastic concrete was not significantly influenced by the contents of sand. However, the fire resistance of the reclaimed plastic concrete was depend upon melting and ignition properties of the binder itself. Therefore. a proper selection of the binder and the fire retardant are recommended in arder to improve fire resistance of the reclaimed plastic concrete.

  • We have investigated optical properties of Si/graded-$Si_{1-x}Ge_x$/Si heterostructures grown by reduced pressure chemical vapor deposition. Compared to standard condition using Si(100) substrate and growth temperature of $650^{\circ}C$, Si(111) resulted in low growth rate and high Ge mole fraction. Also samples grown at higher temperatures exhibited increased growth rate and reduced Ge mole fraction. The features regarding both substrate temperature and crystal orientation, representing high incorporation of silicon supplied from gas stream played as a key parameter, illustrate that reaction control were prevailed in this process growth condition. Using secondary ion mass spectroscopy and spectroscopic ellipsometry, microscopic changes in atomic components could be analyzed for Si/graded-$Si_{1-x}Ge_x$/Si heterostructures.
