Performance Analysis of Air Operated Valve by Thermal Aging (공기구동밸브의 열노화에 따른 성능평가)

  • Nuclear power plants has a number of valves, which are operating at a high temperature-high pressure and radiation environment conditions. Nevertheless, it is important to maintain the reliability of the valves to ensure safe operation of the nuclear power plant. However, the aging of the valves by increasing of years of plant operation and the system transients due to the sudden load change are working the failures of the reliability of the valve. In this paper, we evaluate experimentally the performance change according to the thermal aging of the valve. Results show that the valve stem and the actuator leakages were enlarged by the thermal aging.

  • The design of the exhaust manifold for the pulse converters of a 4 strokes high power medium-speed diesel engine is presented in terms of fatigue analysis. The said system undergoes thermal expansion due to high temperature of exhaust gas and is exposed to intrinsic vibration of the internal combustion engine. Moreover, the exhaust pulse generates pressure pulsating along the runner inside manifold. Under such circumstances, the design and construction of exhaust manifold must be carried out in a way to prevent early failure due to fracture. To validate the design concept, a test rig was developed to simulate the combination of thermal and vibrational movements, simultaneously. Experimental results showed that a certain sense of reliability can be achieved by considering a field factor obtained from the results of engine bench tests.

  • The remote sleeve repair-welding technology using the pulsed Nd:YAG laser for increasing the lifetime of the steam generator tube in the nuclear power plant has been developed. The laser welding has many advantages on deep penetration depth and narrow heat affect zone(HAZ). The inconel 600 tube and inconel 690 sleeve used high temperature and high pressure service have been welded as round lap welds. It is found that the relation between the connection width and welding parameters. It is found that the shear strength in proportion to the connection width by conducting tensile-shear tests.

  • Thermal conductivities of a Ni-Cr coating applied for the protection of a thrust chamber operating under the condition of high pressure and high temperature were measured. Results showed that the data used in heat transfer calculation has a 20~25% margin compared with data measured.

  • 육방정프레스 $420{\phi}$를 활용한 고온고압(high pressure high temperature: HPHT) 방법으로 금속촉매층 ($Ni_{77}Fe_{11}Mn_9Co_3$)과 카본디스크가 순차적으로 적층된 셀에 인산칼슘을 첨가함에 따라 합성다이아몬드 성장에 미치는 변화를 확인하였다. HPHT 공정의 압력, 온도, 시간을 각각 8 GPa, $1500^{\circ}C$, 280s로 고정하고, 카본과 금속촉매 층 사이에 인산칼슘을 각각 0, 0.08, 0.20, 0.28 mg씩 첨가하여 고온고압 합성을 수행하였다. 합성공정 후 적층셀의 중간부 셀 수직단면을 광학현미경과 마이크로 라만분광기로 분석하였다. 결과적으로 인산칼슘을 0.08 mg 도포하여 첨가하면 다이아몬드의 생성이 향상되었다. 반면 0.20 mg 이상에서는 도포되는 양이 증가 할수록 다이아몬드 생성이 억제되다가 0.28 mg 이상 첨가에서는 다이아몬드가 거의 생성되지 않는 특징을 보였다.

Formation of TiC Composite Layer on Ductile Iron by Laser Surface Modification (레이저 처리에 의한 구상흑연주철의 TiC 복합화에 관한 연구)

  • Commercial ductile iron was coated with titanium and aluminum powders by low pressure plasma spraying and then irradiated with a $CO_2$ laser to produce anti-corrosive TiC composite layer. TiC carbides were precipitated homogeneously in a laser alloyed layer by in-situ reaction between carbon existed in the base metal and titanium with thermal sprayed coating. The formation of gas pores and brittle limited mixing zone with ledeburite microstructure in TiC composite layer were surpressed by the complementary alloying of aluminum. The hardness of TiC composite layer obtained by addition of titanium and aluminum was between 600 and 660 Hv, which was three times as high as the hardness of ferritic ductile iron. From the results of isothermal oxidation at 1123k for 24 hours in air, high temperature oxidation resistance of the TiC composite layer with aluminum was improved and doubled when compared with the TiC composite layer without aluminum.

  • As-casted high nitrogen alloys (Fe-25%Mn-12%Cr-1%Ni) have been investigated to study core material. Nitrogen concentration in molten alloys was increased with increasing the square root of nitrogen gas pressure in melting chamber. This result can be explained by Sievert's law. Nitrogen that dissolved as a interstital solid solution element in austenite stainless steel increased lattice parameter and hardness. Electric resistivity($\rho$) was increased with increasing nitrogen concentration and was about $80{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ at room temperature. Coefficient of linear thermal expansion of the nitrogen steel was about $22{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$.

  • Aluminum alloys have high potential for weight reduction in automotive and other applications. But aluminum alloys have relatively low tubular hydroformability which can be enhanced by conducting the hydroforming at elevated temperatures. Hot working processes are commonly used in bulk forming such as forging and rolling, but still is rare in sheet metal forming like hydroforming. In this study hydroforming test at elevated temperatures is performed by special designed induction heating system to investigate the hydroformability of aluminum alloys. The high temperature formability characteristrics are obtained by 1?fitting forming test and circular bulging test and the effects of the process parameters such as feeding amount, internal pressure and temperatures on the tubular forming limits are mainly investigated.

  • Electric and dielectric(Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$[BST] thin films for emtal-Insulator-Semiconductor(MIS) capacitors have been studied. BST thin films wre deposted on p-Si(100) substrates bythe RF magnetron sputtering with tempratue range of 500~$600^{\circ}C$. The dielectric properties of MIS capacitors consisting of Al/BST/$SiO_2$/Si sandwich structure were evaluated ot redcue the leakage current density. The charge state densities of the MIS capacitors were determined by high frequency (1 MHz) C-V measurement. In order to reduce the leakage current in MIS capacitor, high quality $SiO_2$ layer was deposited on bare p-Si substrate. Depending on the oxygen pressure and substrate temperature both positive and negative polarities of effective oxide charge in the MIS capacitors were evaluated. It is considered that the density of electronic states, generated at the BST/$SiO_2$/p-Si interface due to the asymmetric structure within BST/$SiO_2$/Si structure, and the oxygen vacancy content has influence on the behavior of oxide charge.

  • Spray coating is a versatile surface modification technology in which coating is built-up based on the successive deposition of micron-scaled particles. Depending on the coating materials, the coatings can meet the required mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and other properties of base materials. Spraying processes are mainly classified into thermal and kinetic spraying according to their bonding mechanism and deposition characteristics. Specifically, thermal spraying process can be further classified into many categories based on the design and mechanism of the process, such as frame spraying, arc spraying, atmospheric plasma spraying (APS), and high velocity oxygen-fuel (HVOF) spraying, etc. Kinetic spraying or cold gas dynamic spraying is a newly emerging coating technique which is low-temperature and high-pressure coating process. In this paper, overall view of thermal and kinetic spray coating technologies is discussed in terms of fundamentals and industrial applications. The technological characteristics and bonding mechanism of each process are introduced. Deposition behavior and properties of technologically remarkable materials are reviewed. Furthermore, industrial applications of spray coating technology and its potentials are prospected.
