  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the evolution of mobility after the commercial opening of french TGV through an examination on the precedent studies. The result of this study is as follows: Firstly, the TGV is competitive against the airplanes and automobiles within the 2 or 3 hours' service area, especially in the business trip markets. But in the recreational trips over this service area, 3 or 4 hours, the TGV remains as an important mode of transportation. Secondly, in a range within approximately 200 km, 1 hour by TGV, the french high speed train is not competitive against the automobiles by the lack of flexibility and commodity which are normally providing by the automobiles. This study shows the importance of permanent monitoring system on the KTX travellers' behavior to strengthen the market share of KTX.

  • EMC (Electro Magnetic Compatibility) of the electrical railway must be ensured for safety of passenger. Maglev trains has not friction between the wheels and the rails because levitation by an permanent magnets, electromagnets and superconducting magnets etc. So, it is advantageous to maintain a high speed without noise and vibrations. In this paper, we investigated that the magnetic field of the before and after installation electromagnetic waves absorber in order to analyze the effects of electromagnetic waves. The theoretical analysis of the electromagnetic wave absorber was simulated using finite element method. The magnetic field properties of electromagnetic waves absorber were measured by EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) test receiver.

  • Construction of the Shinkansen was planned on the basis of a traffic volume determined by the Trunk Line Investigation Committee set up within JNR in 1957. Passenger and freight traffic along the vitally important Tokaido Main Line had been steadily increasing, passenger traffic reaching $24\%$ and freight $23\%$ of the total domestic traffic. Train frequency was expected to reach the upper limit in the 1960s. Estimated traffic volume was 13,000 million passenger-km for the opening year 1964 and 20,000 million for 1975. Although the traffic did not reach the estimed figure during 1975 reached about twice the estimated figure for the Tokyo-Shinoska Section. The amazing growth of the national economy was undoubtedly responsible for this.

  • The railroad roadbed plays an important role in distributing and transferring the train loading to subgrade, preventing subgrade from bearing softened by providing appropriate stiffness for subgrade, and eventually supporting the track structures. Presently, the reinforced roadbed was widely constructed in high speed line and is proceeding a research about economical thickness and methodologies for the design of reinforced roadbed. Field test section is located at Kongbu line which is from Suwon to Pungtack. In this study, field test were measured a track irregularity with several types of reinforced roadbed materials by using Track Master. The field testing were conducted between March, 2006 and March, 2007.

  • The rolling stock have to be tested and evaluated on test line before entry into service. The test items consist of traction performance, braking performance and current collection performance, etc. This paper is a study of defining the test items considering the domestic safety law, IEC 61133 and describes how to establish a test measurement system. Also this paper presents how to conduct the traction performance test and test results.

  • Interlocking system along with point machine for efficient route control secures safety of train operation by interchanging information each other. However, various types of interlocking system and point machine operating on bender specific interface bring obstacles to effective maintenance and safety. In this paper, we have investigated on interface methods to suggest standard interface module applicable to various operating system

  • Because a driver is located in the front end of KHST, he is most likely to be insured at collision accidents. So, it is very important to design some survival space for the driver. To evaluate the driver's safety of KHST (Korean High Speed Train), the front structure of power car is analysed using PAMCRASH under the SNCF accident scenario(collision against a movable rigid mass 15 ton at 110㎞/h). Because the driver's cab of KHST is a modified version of TGV-K, which is not so strong as to protect him, it turns out to be inadequate to guarantee his survival space. Therefore it is recommended to redesign the driver's cab in a crashworthy point of view like the case of TGV-Duplex or NEC.

  • In this paper, the process of development of resilient sleepers, which improves the train safety, passenger comfort and reduces the noise and vibration, is presented. To optimize the bonding method between elastic pad and PC sleeper, special pad shape like arrow is adopted and is applied in manufacturing. Bonding strength and reduction effects of vibration of the resilient sleepers are experimentally investigated. From the experiment results, it is investigated that the bonding strenth is enough to satisfaction the criteria and the vibration characteristic is also more effective for sleeper with elastic pad than that in ordinary PC form. These results indicate that the elastic pad can reduce possibility of rail-corrugations and thus resulting in the reduction of maintenance costs.
