The purpose of this study was to investigate pre-service physics teachers' perceptions on the physics education major curriculum. We surveyed 15 junior, and 13 senior college students of physics education major in an university in southern part of Korea. Among them, 24 participants(86 %) took the physics 1 course in high school and 22 participants(79 %) chose the physics 1 in their Korea Scholastic Aptitude Test. The responses showed that the most necessary part in pre-service students' learning was the understanding of high school level physics(36 %), and the understanding of introductory level physics(29 %). In the wish list of courses to be open, high school level physics course was ranked first among seven options by 61 % of respondents. Also, there was some concurrence among respondents in opinion of the necessity for understanding introductory physics. Students felt difficulties in understanding it especially owing to the lack of problem solving skill and comprehension. They added that the sufficient explanation of core concepts should be the first action in the innovative plan. Most participants of pre-service physics teachers hoped to have the revised major curriculum which could help their understanding of high school level or introductory level of physics. However, there was a gap of opinions between the group of students with completion of the high school physics 1 & 2 course and those with non-completion of them. The approach of changing major curriculum with consideration of learners' needs was recommended because the number of students with completion of the high school physics course would probably be decreasing rapidly under these circumstances such as the application of new national curriculum, the reduction of the number of the elective courses in Korea Scholastic Aptitude Test and so on.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the aspects of verbal interactions of teacher?small group students by categorizing those interactions which affect students' thinking thus to improve teacher's interaction. First, verbal interactions of teacher-small group students were divided into two categories ?Behaviors related to problem-solving, and Others. Behaviors related to problem-solving were also classified into two elements?Receiving opinion based on the students' thinking process, and Giving help based on the teacher's thinking process. Receiving opinion consists of agreement, question, correction, objection while giving help consists of information, hint, question, summary, and ask & answer. Most of teacher-small group students' interactions were in the form of teacher's questions and students' answers, and teacher's questions tended to require simple answers rather than answers from deep thought. In addition, there was a tendency that the teacher focused more on her own thinking process than students' and that she interacted with only a couple of students who gave correct answers. As a result, even after teacher's scaffolding, many students were often unable to understand the particular contents. However, through the interactions, the teacher made students to have confidence by restating their opinions and agreeing or praising them. She also created an atmosphere where students can give their opinions freely. From the observation of interactions, we can find that students' thinking process is affected by the characteristics of teacher's interactions such as expression of agreement and encouragement, hint giving rise to thought, interactions based on the students' thinking process, permission of students' activities and questions, allowing time for students' thought, and correction of wrong opinions. At this point, educational implications of teacher-small group students' interactions were drawn.

In this study, we developed tasks including cognitive scaffolding for students to explain scientific phenomena using valid evidences in science classroom and sought to investigate how tasks influence the development of small group scientific argumentation. Heterogeneous small groups in gender and achievement were organized in one classroom and the tasks were applied to the class. Students were asked to write down their own ideas, share individual ideas, and then choose the most plausible opinion in a group. One group was chosen for investigating the effect of tasks on the development of small group argumentation through the analysis of discourse transcripts of the group in 10 lessons, students' semi-structured interview, field note, and students' pre- and post argument tests. The discrepant argument examples were included in the tasks for students to refute an argument presenting evidences. Moreover, comparing opinion within the group and persuading others were included in the tasks to prompt small group argumentation. As a result, students' post-argument test grades were increased than pre-test grades, and they argued involving evidences and reasoning. The high level of arguments has appeared with high ratio of advanced utterances and lengthening of reasoning chain as lessons went on. Students had elaborate claims involving valid evidences and reasoning by reflective and critical thinking while discussing about the tasks. In addition, tasks which could have various warrants based on the data led to students' spontaneous participation. Therefore, this study has significance in understanding the context of developing small group argumentation, providing information about teaching and learning context prompting students to construct arguments in science inquiry lessons in middle school.
The mathematics exhibition gives visitors a special chance to experience mathematics materials through a variety of exhibits. Thus, the study should be carried out by examining the impact on students' perception in the area of mathematics education. This study was conducted based on the three domestic mathematics exhibitions. I carried out the study, with the population of the middle and high school students consisted of 393 attendees and 135 volunteers at the exhibitions, to examine (1) the current condition of exhibitions' operating system and exhibits, (2) the reaction to the exhibits' contents, presentation methods, exhibitions' operating systems, and facilities, and (3) the cognitive and affective effects on the students' perception, engagement, and motivation. From the research-based study, I found more pros on the mathematics exhibition than cons. Therefore, in my opinion, the exhibition's role should be defined as an efficient supplementary method to complement the school curriculum. It is also necessary to develop the appropriate exhibits' contents reflecting the students' levels and needs. The government should provide enough financial supports to various mathematics exhibitions in order to install amenities and facilities for visitors.

This study was conducted to analyze the change of sex-related knowledges and attitudes of female students after sex education intervention at rural high school. After conducting a pre-survey on 119 subjects of 1st and 2nd grade female students in two rural high schools in November 1999, 150 minute-sex education was provided for the students by health professional from health center. Two follow-up survey were conducted in one month and six months later to evaluate the effect of sex education. The score of knowledge of AIDS was increased from 8.46 in pre-education to 11.90 in one month and 11.87 in six month later. The positive attitude toward the pre-marage sexual relationship was changed from 16.9% in pre-education to 14.4% in one month and 23.5% in six month later. The opinion for the heterosexual intercommunion during school age was not changed by sex education intervention and the subjects were pro for the making male friends during their school period. The subjects were more understood that AIDS patient should be treated humanly and they recognized that the mode of disease transmission and how to prevent the disease. To maintain the effect of sex education, the continuous and regular educational intervention and team approach from school and health professional should be necessary.
This study was carried out to investigate the nutrition knowledge, dietary attitudes, and dietary habits of girl's high school students in Kunsan, and to investigate their recognition of food-nutrition labeling. The results are summarized as follows. General nutrition knowledge is relatively low, with an average of 0.57. It was shown that high school female students skipped breakfast rather than lunch or dinner, with a skipping rate of 28.9% for breakfast, 0.7% for lunch, and 8.6% for dinner. Regarding snacks, 35.5% of all the surveyed students had 1 snack per day, with 31.9% having them between lunch and dinner. The most popular snacks include biscuits (22.3%), noodles (18.3%) and bakery (13.3%). The most popular response was that students 'sometimes checked' the food label of processed domestic and imported processed food. The level of satisfaction with food labels is moderate, with an average of 2.96, out of 5. The most satisfactory title about food labels was 'helpful for food selection' with 3.19. On the other hand, the least satisfactory title was 'understands the label' with 2.78. Regarding the identification of the nutrition labeling, the highest response was 'sometimes watched, sometimes not' with 40.5%. Products which were most often checked were milk/milk products (3.44), snacks/bread (3.33), and soft drinks (3.07). Among nutrition labeling items, total calories was the most important, followed by fat, carbohydrate, cholesterol and calcium. The question regarding the knowledge of nutrition labeling rated an average of 0.58 (out of 1). There was a significant positive correlation between the degree of the nutrition label verification and the dietary attitude score, along with the nutrition labeling knowledge and the nutrition knowledge score of the subjects. On the other hand, the degree of the nutrition label verification and the knowledge on nutrition labeling had a significant negative correlation. Hence, it is of the opinion that education on properly reading nutrient information is necessary to enable adolescents to apply that in real life. Furthermore, labeling nutritional information on processed fred through a more comprehensive method is deemed necessary as a supporting measure.

This study discerned interactions that secondary students experience during their studies and information behaviors that explains their interactions. In addition, when young people collaborate with their friends, this study identified their actions, such as collecting, using, sharing, and generating information, and the social and cultural factors that influence the behavior. The research questions consisted of 'Radical Change Theory' focusing on the information behavior of the digital age youth and the type of radical change in the digital age. As a result of the research, the status of collaborative information behavior of middle and high school students was reflected in our educational reality. Students, however, approached and utilized various information sources, diversified their opinion sharing tools, and discovered channels that were different from adults and used them in information activities. Though not as anticipated, they suggested that the experience of collaboration helped the individual's growth.
This study aimed to develop the standardized contents and methods for preventing sexual harassment for hight school students preparing for employment after graduation. The school complex project is driven by public calling for school facilities change due to the social change followed by the aging society and increasing interest in the lifelong education. The school complex project is defined as an activity in which the school facilities and space are not only used for students, but also for the local residents. Since the project was promoted in a link with reform of the education system in 2001, the demand in the expectation effect has been sharply increasing. Despite of the high expectation and attention, the school complex project, however, has been performed in a limit of efficiency. Consequently, public opinion calling for more structured and effective way on construction and administration has been certainly increasing. According to the strong demand, this study was carried out to provide basic data for, and suggest an approach to, more structured and effective way of establishment and administration of the school complex project by comparing the success cases in Seoul metropolitan city.
