A polyrotaxane-biotin conjugate was synthesized and its interaction with streptavidin measured using surface plasmon resonance(SPR) detection. A biodegradable polyrotaxane in which ca, 22 molecules of ${\alpha}$-cyclodextrina(${\alpha}$-CDs) were threaded onto a poly(ethylene oxide) chain(M$\sub$n:4,000) capped with benzyloxycarbonyl-L-phenylalanine was conjugated with a biotin hydorazide and 2-aminoethanol after activing the hydroxyl groups of ${\alpha}$-CDs in the polyrotaxane using N, N'-carbonyldiimidazole. The results of the high-resolution $^1$H-nyclear lmagnetic resonance($^1$H-NMR)spectra and gel permeation chromatography of the conjugate showed that ca, 11 biotin molecules were actually introduced to the polyrotaxane scaffold. An SPR analysis showed that the binding curves of the biotin molecules in the conjugate on the streptavidin-deposited surface changed in a concentration dependent manner, indicating that the biotin in the conjugate was ac-tually recognized by streptavidin. The association equilibrium constant(K$\sub$a/) of the interaction be-tween the conjugate and steptavidin tetramer was of the order 10$\^$7/. These results suggest that polyrotaxane is useful for scaffolds as a polymeric ligand in biomedical fields.

An absolute absorption cross section of benzene was measured with a spectrometer system including a mono-chrometer and a grating in the wavelength region of $240{\sim}280nm$ under the atmospheric pressure and room temperature in the laboratory. A certificated reference benzene gas ($98{\mu}mol/mol$ in $N_2$) was used to measure its absorption cross section. A 710 mm cell with a quartz window and a 150 W Xe arc lamp were employed. The magnitude of absorption cross section of $1.41{\times}10^{-18}cm^2$ was lower than that of the reference spectra ($2.5{\times}10^{-18}cm^2$) of high resolution spectrometer, Total measurement uncertainty was estimated to be 4.0%.
Human melanocortin-4 receptor (hMC4R) has a critical role in part of energy homeostasis, and their heterozygous mutations related in genetic cause of severe human obesity. In order to study the structure and function of these membrane proteins, it is important to prepare the samples. However, the preparation of transmembrane peptide is seriously difficult and time-consuming. Overexpression and purification of membrane proteins was reported to be difficult due to their innate insoluble and toxic properties. Among the many difficulties, the most important is the difficulty in obtaining sufficient quantities of purified protein. Recently, we succeed to produce large amounts of the second transmembrane domain from the wild-type hMC4R (wt-TM2) and D90N mutant hMC4R (m-TM2) and proposed the structural difference of them in membrane-like environments. In this paper, we demonstrate the optimization procedures to express and purify wt-TM2 or m-TM2 peptides, and solution NMR studies in different detergents to get high-resolution spectra were also described.
The knowledge of fuel load and composition is important for planning and managing the fire hazard and risk. However, fuel mapping is extremely difficult because fuel properties vary at spatial scales, change depending on the seasonal situations and are affected by the surrounding environment. Remote sensing has potential of reduction the uncertainty in mapping fuels and offers the best approach for improving our abilities. This paper compared the results of object-oriented classification to a pixel-based classification for fuel type map derived from Hyperion hyperspectral data that could be enable to provide this information and allow a differentiation of material due to their typical spectra. Our methodological approach for fuel type map is characterized by the result of the spectral mixture analysis (SMA) that can used to model the spectral variability in multi- or hyperspectral images and to relate the results to the physical abundance of surface constitutes represented by the spectral endmembers. Object-oriented approach was based on segment based endmember selection, while pixel-based method used standard SMA. To validate and compare, we used true-color high resolution orthoimagery
We investigate ${\rho}$ Pup using the high resolution spectral observations taken from the VLT archive and observations at a 1.8m-Korean telescope with BOES spectrograph. The atmospheric parameters are determined using the iron-line abundance analysis. We derive an effective temperature value of $T_{eff}=6890{\pm}250K$, surface gravity of log g=$3.28{\pm}0.3$ dex, microturbulent velocity of ${\upsilon}_{micro}=4.1{\pm}0.4km\;s^{-1}$, and the iron abundance of log N=$7.82{\pm}0.15$. The projected rotational velocity of the star is close to ${\upsilon}$ sin i=3.5km $s^{-1}$. Asymmetric line profiles in the observed spectra and variation of this asymmetry with time show that both strong radial pulsation and weak non-radial pulsations are present in ${\rho}$ Pup.

We observed a bright type Ia Supernovae SN 2014J located in the nearby starburst galaxy M82 using BOES (Bohyunsan Optical Echelle Spectrograph) for eight nights from day -11 (Jan. 22) to day +102 (May. 15) with respect to maximum brightness in B-band. We found the lines formed in the ejecta such as Si ($6300{\AA}$), whose velocity is more than 10,000km/s respect to the host galaxy as well as those formed in the circumstellar material (e.g. Na I D [$5890{\AA}$, $5896{\AA}$], 100km/s) Also, we found other weak iron ($5780{\AA}$, $5797{\AA}$, $6376{\AA}$, $6613{\AA}$, and $7543{\AA}$), carbon ($8059{\AA}$) and other unknown elements. These lines are also thought to have been formed in circumstellar material. We expect that this study will contribute to revelation of the nature of the progenitor stars.

In a Doppler weather radar, high resolution windspeed profile measurements are needed to provide reliable detection of a hazardous weather condition. For this purpose, the pulse-pair method is generally considered to be the most efficient estimator. However, this estimator has some bias errors due to asymmetric spectra and may yield meaningless results in the case of a multimodal return spectrum in this paper, bias errors were analyzed and an improved method was suggested to reduece these errors. For the case of a multimodal or seriously skewed spectrum, the modes of spectrum may provide more reliable information than the statistical mean. Therefore, the idea of a relatively simple mode estimator is also developed.
This paper presents a hyperspectral imaging technique based on laser-induced fluorescence for non-invasive detection of tumorous tissue on mouse skin. Hyperspectral imaging sensors collect image data in a number of narrow, adjacent spectral bands. Such high-resolution measurement of spectral information reveals contiguous emission spectra at each image pixel useful for the characterization of constituent materials. The hyperspectral image data used in this study are fluorescence images of mouse skin consisting of 21 spectral bands in the visible spectrum of the wavelengths ranging from 440 nm to 640 nm. Fluorescence signal is measured with the use of laser excitation at 337 nm. An acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) is used to capture images at 10 nm intervals. All spectral band images are spatially registered with the reference band image at 490 nm to obtain exact pixel correspondences by compensating the spatial offsets caused by the refraction differences in AOTF at different wavelengths during the image capture procedure. The unique fluorescence spectral signatures demonstrate a good separation to differentiate malignant tumors from normal tissues for rapid detection of skin cancers without biopsy.

Wilson and Bappu (1957), for the first time, and other precedent studies (Lutz & Kelker 1975; Pasquini et al. 1988; Dupree & Smith 1995; Wallerwstein et al. 1999; Pace et al. 2003) found a tight correlation (called Wilson-Bappu relationship - WBR) between stellar absolute visual magnitude and the width of the Ca II K line emission feature for late type stars. Here we re-visit WBR to claim that WBR can be an excellent indicator of stellar surface gravity of late type stars as well as a good indicator of distance. We have analyzed 103 high-resolution spectra of G, K and M type stars obtained by UVES and BOES by following the method by Pace et al. (2003) for measuring the widths of Ca II K lines(W). WBR found in our samples is Mv=33.26-17.79logW and the correlation is very tight. In this study, the stellar gravity(log g) has been derived using Kurucz ALAS9 model grid and MOOG code, which can determine $T_{eff}$ and [M/H] too.
Symbiotic stars are binary systems composed of a hot white dwarf and a mass losing giant. Many symbiotic stars are known to exhibit broad wings around Balmer emission line. We show high resolution spectra of S-type symbiotic stars, Z Andromedae and AG Draconis, obtained with the ESPaDOnS and the 3.6 m Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, in which we find prominent broad wings around Balmer lines. We adopt Monte-Carlo technique to consider two types of wing formation mechanisms, which are Thomson scattering by free electron in H II region and Raman scattering by atomic hydrogen in H I region. We find that Thomson wings of $H{\alpha}$ and $H{\beta}$ have the same widths in the Doppler space due to the cross section independent of wavelength. In contrast, Raman $H{\alpha}$ wings are 3 times broader widths than $H{\beta}$ counterparts, which is attributed to the different cross sections and branching ratios. Our CFHT data show that $H{\alpha}$ wings of Z Andromedae and AG Draconis are broader than $H{\beta}$ wings, lending strong support to the Raman scattering origin of Balmer wings in these objects.
